The Third Party - Chapter 79
3rd Person’s POV (12 yrs., 8 months)
After observing Ken’s Mana accumulation, Kara hastily used her magic on the quickly piling up mana on Ken’s frame and around him, for there is a possibility that anyone could suffocate from this intense mana except from the user.
“Everyone, take a big step away from Ken and I, the treatment shall now begin.” At first, her fellow adults gave her a questioning stare, but seeing that the woman was serious, they all complied and jumped back a good few distance away from the two.
Only that it wasn’t enough in Kara’s speculation and instructed the five to give a few distance more. Now they were near the shoreline, if you could call it that.
Ken noticing this didn’t mind of the situation and focused more on regulating the pain on his body. Controlled breathing as to not pant from under the pressure. A splitting headache might come later.
“Ken please bear with me.” said Kara, Ken nodded. She held out her hand, slowly circulating her mana to her fingertips in hues of purple and violet, the color slowly created thin like threads that connected itself to Ken.
Suddenly another pain came in the form of a headache that threatened to break Ken’s brain out of his skull. Forget thinking it would arrive later, curse his mind for wishful thinking otherwise.
But just as what his master said, Ken endured the process of whatever Master Kara was doing to him. The pain on his body wasn’t worsening, at least.
Kara swiftly went to work and slowly guided her mana inside Ken’s mana pathways, searching for the irregularity within his mana.
Nearing the part where most of the boy’s mana was compact and originated, she found that the blue mana pool was circulating all on its own, she quickly observed the situation and found that the mana was being sucked into it for some reason.
She noticed as well that the mana pathways are aiding in sucking in more mana from outside. She found the problem. Ken’s mana pathways were his spells and magic would come out where open both to suck in and dish out mana.
“Do relax Ken, for this will take awhile.” She said her eyes not leaving Ken out of her sight. The boy nodded, thus she returned back to work.
She slowly but surely repaired the part of the pathways that were open. She could not believe that such a situation actually happened for in theory, these kinds of situation would never happen.
It is common knowledge for them that one’s consciousness must be utilized in order to take in energy and dish out magic. In Ken’s, there’s seems to be no need for it, and that’s what makes it dangerous.
For exposed mana pathways can cause a person to be overwhelmed with the mana around them, suffocating them, worst case scenario, it could lead to death.
So she needs to be very careful as to not make mistakes. Still, this situation seems really odd for her, for a similar situation that she had stumbled upon was opening other beasts’ mana pathways in order for them to use their magic again.
Quite the opposite of Ken’s, but surprisingly has similar process. Slowly the mana pathways on Ken’s body gradually returned to their original state.
Ken felt the effects almost instantly, as the weight on his body gradually lifted as well as the aching on his head slowly faded.
Kara smiled to herself of the success in her operation and retracted her mana. She took a good look of Ken and felt that the mana around her was no longer rushing towards Ken and forming a dense mana supply around him.
That’s when she also noticed. KEN WAS STANDING THE WHOLE TIME!!! As well as her. She must have been too immersed in quickly resolving the problem since the mana was indeed rushing towards Ken in unimaginable speed that she forgot to lay him down on one of the beds she prepared for her patients.
She looked worriedly at Ken whethe
A normal person would have passed out by now, but him… still so young at that! How?….
Anyway, she shook her head out from being all dumbfounded before her student could notice. Too bad for her, Ken already did, just choosing to be indifferent.
“How do you feel Ken?” she said.
“I feel better master, thank you.” He gave her a deep bow, his long hair flowing on both sides. Kara thought to herself how this person could pass off as a girl, for really, he looks so feminine, but still has that violent character. In fighting that is.
“I’m glad to know.” She replied. Ken gave her a heartwarming smile before bowing again. He turned to fix his hair into a ponytail as the adults approached them.
“Is the treatment done?” asked Alfred.
“Yes, it was successful.” said Kara. Ken smiled at his father and mother and launched himself towards the man, making Alfred abruptly react to his son’s action.
“Hoist me up, hoist me!” he suddenly said, which, made them all stare at him weirdly, his mother just chuckled as his father winded him downwards then propelled him up.
Ken giggled in the air, falling down into the arms of his father as he was hoisted up again, this time higher, as he felt his father use his magic on his hands to give more strength to his throw.
Ken flipped in the air, feet ready to land on his father’s waiting hands raised above his head. Ken stuck his landing, feet on the palms of his father’s hand, proud smile on his face, hands on both sides of his waist.
“Tada!” he exclaimed. So that was what they were doing, for a second they were worried that Ken might be injured again, turns out, this was just their father and son duo thing. They all watched as Ken laughed alongside his parents.
“So, what was your diagnosis of Ken’s situation?” asked Klein, walking up beside Kara. Kara glanced at him briefly then back at the family in front of them.
“Ken had an irregularity in his mana pathways causing mana to rush into him, creating a dense mana around him.” Klein nodded slightly in understanding.
“Does that have anything to do with what happened earlier?” he said.
“In fact, yes, for the more the mana was being sucked into his body, the more his body couldn’t handle it, the dense mana around him caused many discomfort, have you not noticed?” she said.
“Now that you mention it, I did feel a slight unease from earlier as we neared Ken, now I see why.” The other two masters heard their conversation, and nodded internally to themselves. They too no understood where the discomfort form earlier came from.
And since they were sensitive with mana, there’s no need to explain much about why they were uncomfortable due to the dense mana round their student.
“Add that to the fact that he used his magic to ‘dispell’ the spell Ken had on his body, and that was the result.” added Kara, of which Klein only nodded in understanding.
“Excuse me Masters, can I go back to class now?” said Ken. The three turned to him.
“Of course, you may.” replied Klein.
“Why don’t you stay with us for awhile son.” said Alfred looking at his son.
“I can’t papa, I still have classes over.” said Ken, looking apologetic to his father, who’s face fallen. A thought came to Ken, as he stared brightly at his father.
“Why don’t you two come with me to the field? That way, you both can still observe the side effects of the mana regulation from earlier, do you guys still need a lot more data?” he said. He knows that it’s absurd to say, but he wants to help his parents out.
So might as well have them observe him so they could finish researching the discovery that they made, as what Master Kara said. Come to think of it, why didn’t his parents help in treating him?
Oh no wait, he forgot that this was the first time that his parents discovered about mana getting dense and being sucked in without any aid from him, so how were they going to help.
Things might have just gotten worse if they did.
“Well, I suppose we could, what do you think honey?” asked Lyn to her husband.
“I’m okay with it, but we’ll need Kara’s help to give us the needed pointers so that we could observe better.” replied Alfred. “Would you help us Kara?”
“There’s no need to say it twice, of course I’ll help.” said Kara with a smile, it would be a good thing to observe as well, there’s no harm in expanding her knowledge of a person, and to add more information in her books of detail.
As a healer and an enchanter, it is her duty to update frequently the constitution of people she serves, you could say she’s the local doctor of this place.
“Right! Let’s go!” said Ken enthusiastically, as he activated his magic and floated in the air, about to fly off of the cave. The others were right behind him as they also activated flight.
Kara created a bubble on her island home, or more like clinic, willed it to submerge in the water, beside her clam bedroom.
“Uwah! It feels so good to be feeling good again! Wait, that came out wrong.” said Ken to himself, as he chuckled at his own silliness, good thing no one noticed.
First he needs to clean himself, with a little water and wind spell, he evaporated the excess sweat from his body, and dried himself clean with a gentle breeze, the treatment from earlier had almost exhausted him,
But surprisingly, his body regained some of the vitality it lost from breaking that spell on himself, like the burden from earlier hindered him from recovering, he wonders why it was red though, what could it have meant?
Maybe he’ll find out in the near future. Now to return to the training field.
*BOOM!*
Everyone on the town square, and even Ken and the adults that had recently exited the tunnel from below all turned at one direction where the sound came from.
‘It’s from the training field, I wonder what they could be doing, must be something fun!’ thought Ken to himself, eyes sparkling an excited glint, adrenaline almost rushing his entire being, giddy and could not wait what that sound was.
