- Chapter 4 Source Of Credits
Selling a skill to the store is a mystical feeling, you feel that something is gone from your head, like the feeling of forgetting what you were supposed to do after entering a room, but a bit stronger, but it only lasts for a few seconds.
To sell a skill you have to use your soul object and physically manifest said skill and give it to the store attendant, this process is a bit flashy, and depending on the rank of the skill, the physical manifestation is brighter and a different color, E and D both being darker gray colors, and C being Blue, B is Green, A is Silver, S is Orange, and SSS is Gold.
“Woah! what is he doing!” a girl standing in line said to the guy next to her while pointing at me and pulling his sleeve, I suppose selling a skill first was a bit too flashy, she was not alone in seeing me in this very open store…
Unfortunately, I don’t have enough ‘Skillpoints’ to become a VIP member of this store, Skillpoints is not what you may think by the way, a skillpoint is rewarded when acquiring a skill for the first time, 1 point for E, 2 points for D, 3 points for C, 5 points for B and 10 points for A.
Due to the rarity of S and SSS skills, a S skill gives 50 while a SSS gives 150.
as a sidenote, F rank skills doesn’t give any points, as they are generally born-in skills, some born-in skills are obviously worth more, such as talking or seeing.
To become a VIP member of a store, one has to remove 250 skillpoints, this is a separate monetary value from credits, and can’t be directly traded, luckily I got a SSS skill giving me a good 150 point headstart, combined with my basic skillset of;
D rank – ‘Human Strength’,
D rank – ‘Advanced Biking'(sold now),
D rank – ‘Lesser Throwing’,
F rank – ‘Walking’,
F rank – ‘Standing’,
C rank – ‘Impressive Reflexes’,
E rank – ‘Talking’
…
and a few more.
I have a rough estimate of only around 210-220 points, which is quite a lot for being within the first half year of launch!
although, skillpoints generally aren’t used that much, as you can only trade them in for memberships in stores as far as I know, and different stores even have separate memberships! then again, stores have mostly the same content, different kinds of mystery boxes and missions, though mission content varies, so most people will end up using a single store anyways.
“Speaking of store content, that might be a source of credits! Missions!” as I was thinking this, the earlier girl and guy approached me with a question “e-excuse me sir? mister?”
hmm, this might not be the best, I was supposed to be low-key, it’s not even been a day and people notice me…
“uh, yes, who are you?” I replied with a question to try to seem like I did nothing out of the ordinary.
She frowned slightly, while the guy next to her replied with “I’m Chris, and this is Julie, who are you? and what did you just do with that strange light you suddenly took out from nowhere?” he asked while introducing the two of them.
“T-that was me selling a skill, as I do not think I need it, while I need credits” I said shakingly, unsure if I revealed too much.
“o-oh! so you were one of the first to enter and get information from the disk then?” Julie assumed
“Yes, you could say that” I answered with a half-lie while nodding, I was definitely first ‘haha’.
“Could you explain a bit for us so we don’t have to go through the line? I’ll give you some money!” Chris asked calmly while glancing at the long line.
I thought for a moment, and figured this would be a great time to start getting friends to gather perks with, as mentioned before, it’s incredibly tough to get far by yourself in comparison to groups!
“I can, but I don’t need money, what I need is credits, though I assume you don’t have any, therefore, I’d like to ask for a simple favor instead” I said while thinking about the mission board.
There are many missions to choose from, many can be done solo, but even more requires groups to finish or at least start them, I thought about one of the climbing missions and glanced at Julie, contemplating if she’s capable of scaling the mountain.
“E-Eh!?” Julie blushed slightly “N-No!” she must’ve mistaken my glancing, though I didn’t realize
“w-what? that’s a no then? well, I’ll do the mission myself then” I said with a downcast voice
“Sigh, getting help couldn’t be this easy, of course” I thought before Chris shoved Julie lightly with his shoulder while glancing at her angrily
“No, I think she misunderstood, could you explain what you’d like our help with?” Chris saved the situation while Julie stood blushing to the side, looking at her own feet.
“Oh, nothing too hard, so, Missions is the main way to earn credits except selling skills, and I some of the missions needs certain amount of people to start the missions, I already checked the missions, if I recall correctly there should be a three-man mountain climbing mission, where we have to scale a small mountain and receive a certain rock or something at the top, and as I’m by myself I’d like your help to do that mission!”
I obviously haven’t had time to check missions yet, but in my last life I went here first time with my two friends and we started with this mission, I can’t exactly recall what we were supposed to do, besides climbing a mountain… About those two friends, why don’t I ask them? Well, a few years later they betrayed me harshly to join a group, even to the point of killing me twice each, luckily they didn’t know where my soul object was, otherwise I’d possibly be dead by now, thus I don’t feel like doing this with them…
“That doesn’t sound too hard” Chris said, while also glancing at the small figure of Julie, realizing what I was glancing at her as well he showed a ‘ah, I see’ expression on his face as he understood.
“I-I can c-climb! …I-I think” Julie, also understanding the glances at this point refuted, still blushing slightly.
“Alright, I’ll explain a bit as we go on, you can call me Isaac” I said after nodding and laughing a little at Julie with Chris.
“Hmph!” Julie was not laughing at herself either, but quickly went back to smiling before saying “Thank you! getting help and information at once! what great service! hehe”.
I explained a bit about the skillpoints and skills that helpdisk would tell you about as we were walking towards mission desk for first mission.
