The Treasure She Never Asked For - Chapter 62 Age Appropriate.
“Big brother, what are you watching?” Liam asked when he noticed how focused Marcel was on his phone. Marcel who was watching the video for the third time while biting on his fork looked up from his phone and blinked a few times before clearing his throat and putting his phone down.
Liam curiously glanced at the phone but the screen was already black so he looked to Marcel for an answer. He did not think it was something that Marcel wouldn’t share.
u003cIf I show this to him, would it be age-appropriate? u003e Marcel asked Avian as he smiled at Liam and ruffled his hair.
[It’s a music video, he will see it somewhere. The only part that would be considered pg is when you were actually pushed down and kissed at the end] Avian explained.
u003cIt’s okay, as long as I’m not the one showing it to him, u003e Marcel responded and slipped the phone in the pocket of his sweatpants.
“I’ll show you the video, in another ten years okay, so hurry and grow up,” Marcel said and patted Liam’s head as he stood up from his chair. Liam, who was only seven, felt like he had been bullied.
“Is it something bad, big brother?” Liam asked as he got off his chair and carried his plate to the kitchen, following behind Marcel.
“You’re too young to watch it,” Marcel said as he took the plate from Liam and started doing the dishes.
“Why am I too young to watch it? Is it something bad?” Liam asked again. He had never been refused by Marcel, so he was genuinely curious what it was that he could not watch.
“Because the law said that only people who are older than sixteen can watch it, so if I show you I’ll go to jail,” Marcel explained in a way that would shut him up. Liam was silent for a while before tugging on Marcel’s sweatpants to get his attention.
“What is it?” Marcel asked as he turned to look at him.
“How will they know you showed me?” Liam asked while blinking his innocent eyes. Marcel sighed in exasperation as he finished rinsing the dishes and placing them in the dryer to dry.
“Ask uncle Damien next time, he knows so much more than I do. I never listened to how they do it when I was in school,” Marcel answered. He never thought that him having bad grades would ever be something that he could use to his advantage, but it seemed to very useful when it came to a curious child, like Liam as Liam nodded in understanding.
“Don’t worry big brother, I’ll study hard and become super smart so I can help you out later,” Liam said with a determined expression. Marcel smiled encouragingly and ruffled his hair, but deep inside, he was complaining to Avian.
u003cIs this really? To receive this kind of promise from a child?u003e Marcel asked.
[It’s a harmless promise] Avian answered in comfort.
u003cYou know I’m not the Marcel who was bad at his studies, right? u003e Marcel asked to make sure he wasn’t being misunderstood.
[Of course] Avian responded but in Marcel’s mind, the response sounded sarcastic so he decided not to talk to him anymore.
“Let’s go watch some tv,” Marcel said and carried Liam and placed him on his shoulders as he walked towards the living room. Marcel placed Liam on the couch before sitting down himself and turning on the tv.
“Did you finish your homework?” Marcel asked in the middle of watching the superhero movie they were watching as Liam didn’t seem to enjoy cartoons.
“Yes, I did everything,” Liam answered while he maintained his focus on the tv screen.
“You know you’ll be going back tomorrow right?” Marcel asked as he looked at Liam to gauge his reaction. Liam just nodded in response.
“I’ll try to get you out as soon as possible, okay? Just hold on for a while,” Marcel said as he stroked Liam’s head and Liam nodded again to show that he had heard him.
Marcel knew that the only reason he had been able to bring Liam out was because of Damien, a fact that accentuated the power of wealth and influence. He was determined to get up in the ranks as quickly as possible because it was still easy to get crushed while he was still insignificant like he currently was.
He decided to lie low first and find his footing before confronting the whole conspiracy that was the orphanage. He knew that Damien would help him, but there was only so much he could do; it wasn’t like he was a relative that would make sacrifices for him; he was actually surprised with how generous he had been so far, with both him and especially with Liam.
