The Tycoon Inheritance - Chapter 28: 28.
Chapter 28: 28.
‘System, when did my life become a rushed system plot? This… I can’t believe there’s a setting like this for humans.’ Chen Kai was genuinely curious about the group in front of him.
[This stems from their upbringing and their high self-esteem tied to their parents’ wealth. It’s pretty common amongst high society and those who usher in newfound wealth.]
‘You’re right. It’s still amusing though.’ To him, this scene was quite novel to him. Social interactions with peers at such a young age were scarce to him over the years. Interacting with them pleased him greatly. He no longer has to place his entire attention on missions and problems, he can experience a normal social life.
It started as a simple meet-up with the girls at the sports center but it turned out to be a challenge to prove who was the better Alpha male.
Like hell, he will mess up his clothes for a silly game.
Chen Kai denied the request upon the challenger’s last word.
When he thought it would end there, the kid and his cronies began their mockery show.
It was truly immature.
The girls felt secondhand embarrassment because they understood Chen Kai’s refusal and his way of doing things. The gift of understanding language is very selective and, unfortunately, this group of boys wasn’t the chosen one.
Chen Kai on the other hand showed them how one person can express themselves without words.
When he was approached by the athletic, arrogant second-generation young master, he wore an amicable smile and his dark eyes were clear. It didn’t change when he was asked, “Student Chen, do you want to play a little one-on-one with me?”
Obviously, he refused, they had an outing that was meticulously planned. The girls inwardly admonished them for cutting into their time for shopping.
“Sorry, I don’t want to play.” < The answer is simple, right? Anyone can understand it, right?
“Oh! So you can’t play basketball.”
Chen Kai: “…”
The girls: “…”
“Ummm… I can play but I don’t want to.” Chen Kai was curious about this misunderstanding.
“Look at that, Brother He. Wear some brand name clothes and he thinks he’s one of us. He’s still a low-class brat who doesn’t know anything. Now he has the audacity to turn up his nose and refuse us when knowing he can’t play.” “A poser. It was obvious from the start.” “I feel sorry for our school belles for being misled by such scum.”
Chen Kai’s eyes became brighter, he was truly curious about the show that the group was putting on. Their words were hitting cotton and it was embarrassing for the onlookers.
Behind him was Su Lian and the other girls. Da Mei was a stickler for time and saw how useless the present play was. She nudged Su Lian who looked at her distractedly. The others saw her present state and shook their heads. The poor girl was an avid fan of Student Chen. Presently her eyes were filled with stars as she glanced at Chen Kai. Thank heavens her admiration for him was a healthy one.
“What is it?” Su Lian asked.
“We’re going to be late. Who knows if someone claimed the apartments already,” Da Mei complained.
“Oh! Right!” Su Lian came out of her fan girl persona and resumed the role of friend. She stretched her hand forward and tugged at the hem of Chen Kai’s t-shirt.
“Brother Chen.”
Even though her tone of voice was soft, he heard her. Looking over his shoulder, he gave a smile of askance.
“We’re going to be late.” Su Lian couldn’t stop the blush spreading across her cheek when she witnessed such a carefree, playful smile on her crush’s lips.
“Thanks for the reminder,” he replied softly.
Su Lian’s friends : “….” Why is there dog food so early?
With a clap of his hands, the sound echoed within the gymnasium, which silenced the cacophony of noise indefinitely. “Okay. So that’s it for this show. Thank you for entertaining us. It sure has been lively today on campus but I’m afraid we must leave. Ladies?!” The mockery was clear in Chen Kai’s voice and his indifference to their taunting angered the group.
“You dare to be so arrogant before me. Your five minutes of fame is nearly up.” This shout came from the main instigator of the group as Chen Kai and the ladies made their way to the door.
“Yes. Yes. Let’s talk again in five years Student He. We can swap stories on our future riches and exploits. I’m looking forward to our college reunion.”
Muffled laughter filtered into the gym as Chen Kai and the girls got farther away from the gym.

Making their way to the carpark, the girls spoke in great detail about the apartments they had their eyes on and the house that was currently available.
As he expected, the apartments were in the buildings he now owned. From the girls’ description via the property manager the rental cost covered maintenance and utilities which was reasonable once they pooled their money together. While listening to them, he sent a few short queries to Xiao Wei, wanting to know the background information on his new properties. The information given by the system is for official business, so Xiao Wei can freely investigate the living conditions.
If it’s passable, he will step back and let the girls sign off on it.
If not, he will help them find a better one indirectly.
These girls he considers his friends are independent and he respects that. This outing is a minor indulgence for them but overall they liked to handle things on their own.
“Brother Chen. This car is really yours?” Ye Jun asked when they approached the Lamborghini.
“Yup. It is currently the only car I have to accommodate everyone in a comfortable manner,” he answered frankly. He unlocked the car and quickly opened the doors for them. It was cute how he rushed to open all three doors.
“Please appease my curiosity, Brother Chen, but where did the cash flow come from? Did you play with some stocks? Freelance work?” Da Mei couldn’t help but question. She wasn’t looking down on him, she was proud of him. The type of pride a friend has when their friend is making a name for themselves or living better. The four of them pampered Chen Kai for years and admired his working spirit and gentle manner. He didn’t let them spend more than they should and will find ways to repay them or solidify their growing friendship. He was a good friend.
“Inheritance. I was given a house, two cars, and some property. It came just in time for graduation,” he answered. He really didn’t care about revealing his wealth. It was all worldly things. When one dies, it’s left behind. Wasn’t he a prime example of that?
“What kind of plot is that?!” Lin Fa shouted in disbelief.
Chen Kai laughed and slowly drove out of the campus. “It’s true. I got some cash also. I stopped counting after five zeroes when I checked my bank account.”
“Can I also have a distant rich grandpa who will leave all his wealth to me?” Ye Jun asked herself. By the dazed look in her eyes, you can tell she was wishing for it to existence. May the world bless her.
“I’m still going through the specifics but I can say it’s like one of those drama novels of hidden heirs. Fun right?” This chapter made its debut appearance via N0v3lB1n.
The girls giggled upon seeing Chen Kai’s cheeky grin. He continued to reassure them that he wouldn’t squander it all and still look for a career he would be comfortable doing. They freely gave their suggestions before deviating to other topics.
Sitting comfortably on such an expensive ride was an experience they couldn’t help but share with their friend circles, photos were taken with Chen Kai being a guest in a few.
The car came to a stop a few meters away from the university. “I won’t be long. You guys should think of what you want to eat, so we can pick it up on the way to Binhai.”
“That’s easy. I want… no, that’s too heavy. Hmmm…”
Chen Kai gave Ye Jun a look of ‘Do you get my point now?’ She gave him a thumbs-up before starting the decision-making conversation with the others. They only noticed Chen Kai leaving the car and going to the trunk. They were curious about his actions and watched on silently. He retrieved a light-colored gift bag from the hollowed compartment and then walked towards the row of food stalls along the road.
“It’s the auntie and uncle, the ones who take care of him,” Lin Fa commented.
“Their pork buns are really good,” Da Mei added.
“Oh~ He’s giving them a gift.” This came from Su Lian who was looking at Chen Kai with pure curiosity. His filial actions made her feelings for him grow further. This was the guy she secretly liked.
They watched on as the elderly couple greeted him like their own son and he earnestly replied to their questions of his studies and future. The old couple each had a doting smile on their faces as they listened to Chen Kai, that smile turned to one of disbelief then pure gratification. The girls all believed that he was telling them of his great fortune because the old lady was trying to keep her tears at bay.
Chen Kai gave the couple a deep bow of thanks and presented his gift to them. The couple wanted to refuse but listened to his sincere pleading. It was the old man who accepted the gift and gently patted the young man’s head in a fatherly manner.
They all witnessed something they rarely see from their friend. An emotional outburst. The girls were both worried and equally emotional. As his friends, they knew of his background. Seeing him with his head bent and tears falling down his face made them sympathetic.
Anyone looking in will think the relationship between the elderly couple and Chen Kai was a simple customer and stall keeper but it was deeper. He didn’t have to say it, the girls knew he saw this couple as his ‘real’ uncle and aunt who cared for him.
Raising his head slowly, the auntie began to fuss over him, using her weathered hand to dry his tears. No one can miss the bright smile on his face as he received the woman’s doting. Behind them, the old man opened the bag and began to admonish Chen Kai. The smile on his face didn’t leave. He patiently spoke with them and showed them how to use the two phones he purchased for them. He retrieved a white envelope and placed it directly in the woman’s hands.
“What’s in that envelope for him to look like that?” Lin Fa asked quietly. All four of them were in the backseat watching the whole interaction. If a car enthusiast can see them now, they will have an aneurysm. Their shoes were brushing against the leather front seats as they knelt.
“Judging by Brother Chen’s character., it’s probably something that will help them in the long run,” Da Mei answered.
“Probably.” Ye Jun and Su Lian both answered with a firm nod of their heads.
They continued to watch as Chen Kai spoke firmly to the couple before receiving their hugs. He pointed to the car and then continued his conversation. By the looks of things, the couple gradually accepted his words then waved goodbye when he ended his visit.
Su Lian scrambled back into the front seat and settled back down like her friends. When Chen Kai returned to the car, he acted oblivious to the girls’ antics. He knew they were watching. Their gazes were very evasive.
“So~ Did everyone decide on what they wanted to eat?”
