The Tyrant’s Tranquilizer - Chapter 116
The conversation that began late in the evening ended in the middle of the night. When the three left the dining room, Ruben was waiting in the lobby.
“Is it over now? If I knew it would take this long, I would have slept more.”
Ruben greeted them with a continuous yawn. He kept sleeping in the guest room because he had used so much magic, but his fatigue did not disappear.
“I will sleep in the mansion today…”
Amelie blurted out apologetically. Originally, she had planned to go to the imperial palace immediately. She couldn’t eat a meal comfortably because she came home after a long time, but it was a pity that she had to leave without sleeping.
Seeing Amelie and the Count’s affectionate appearance, Serwin, who said that he had to go back today, changed his mind.
“I just made a decision, so I couldn’t tell you. I’m sorry.”
“No… I’d like to rest more, but… would that be okay?”
Ruben looked at Serwin.
“It’s nothing for Young Master to worry about.”
Serwin’s cold reply made Ruben angry and tried to argue. But in that moment, Amelie let out her yawn. The timing was so exquisite, the tension between Serwin and Ruben vanished in an instant. Ruben let out a sigh of relief.
“I’m sorry. I was going to tell you.”
Amelie continued to yawn as she apologized to Ruben. It was a miracle that she didn’t collapse now because so much had happened in one day.
“No, it’s alright. You look very tired, so let’s take a rest.”
Ruben replied with a smile. He was irritated at the moment, but he was rather grateful that Amelie changed the mood before arguing with Serwin. The only thing that was regretful was having to fight Serwin himself.
“Yes, hurry up and go up.”
“Yes, Father. Then please take a rest.”
Amelie stretched and headed for her room. Serwin hurriedly followed her.
“Wait!”
The Count was startled as if his eyes would pop out, and called the two of them.
“What’s the matter?”
Amelie asked in wonder.
“I told you that the room Your Majesty will be staying in is the same as the last time he came. It’s the opposite direction, this is where my daughter’s room is.”
“So?”
At Serwin’s question, the Count quickly ran in and intervened between Amelie and Serwin. Then, as if to protect Amelie, he hid her behind his back.
“Father?”
“Don’t tell me, you didn’t try to follow her to the women’s room in the middle of the night, did you? You can’t do that, no matter how it is, Your Majesty!”
Only then did Amelie and Serwin say, Oops.
‘It must seem strange to father!’
The Count didn’/ know that Amelie and Serwin shared a bed, nor did he know that it was natural in the imperial palace. The two realized belatedly that it might seem strange to others because they were accustomed to using one room.
“Your Majesty, go to Your Majesty’s room.”
The Count looked Serwin straight in the eyes and said firmly.
“Let’s go, Amelie. I’ll take you to your room.”
“Yes!”
Amelie nodded eagerly to hide her embarrassment. The Count held Amelie’s back and kept Serwin in check until the end.
It wasn’t her intention at all, but Serwin, who had become a shameless man, was unable to say anything. He was afraid of the Count’s moment, to the point where he wondered if he was afraid of him more than anything else.
‘Is father strong?’
It meant that Amelie was so precious to the Count that he forgot his fear. Somehow liking that fact, Serwin smiled.
Ruben, who was watching the scene, looked at Serwin with a face of disbelief. He was amazed every time he smiled.
‘Was he someone who could smile like that?’
When he was with Amelie, Serwin seemed just like an ordinary young man. Ruben decided to muster up his courage again. Now that Amelie’s work was finished, wouldn’t he be able to have a sincere conversation?
“Your Majesty. There is something I want to ask”
Serwin turned to Ruben. The smile had disappeared from his face before he knew it.
“Young Master must be tired, so let’s go back to the palace and talk.”
Serwin left only his own words and quickly left. Ruben stared at his back in dismay.
‘I was hoping that Amelie’s words made you interested in me…’
When they rode the carriage to the imperial palace, Amelie said that Serwin had asked about him. How he looked. He expected to hear the story, but what came back was, as expected, indifference. He looked forward to it and felt like a fool.
‘Where should I put it? I’m going to stick to Amelie.’
Ruben knew that Serwin’s weakness was Amelie, so he had no intention of giving up like this.
*****
The Count took Amelie to her room and waited for her to get ready for bed.
“I can sleep alone. Father must be tired, too.”
“It’s because I want to see your face a little longer. Hurry up and lie down.”
Amelie lay down on the bed pretending not to win. The Count carefully covered her with the blanket and tucked her hair behind her ears. Amelie’s heart was filled with her father’s kindness, which she hadn’t felt in a long time. She thought she’d live her whole life never knowing her father’s love.
As Amelie looked at the Count with round eyes, the Count smiled softly.
“You have to close your eyes to sleep.”
“I want to see my father longer, too.”
“You said you were tired.”
“I’m going to sleep if I get sleepy while talking to my father.”
The Count nodded gladly. It was even nice to see his daughter’s childishness after a long time. Amelie silently looked up at the Count, and then she started talking incoherently.
“My mother. Listening to my father’s story, I think she has a similar personality to Renee than I do.”
“Hmm, is that so? After hearing what you said, they’re similar. Renee looks exactly like a strong and determined person.”
“Was my mother the type to do it when she got angry? Renee once attacked Serwin with a knife. How surprised I was then.”
“She did more. That’s why even the knights stepped back when they saw Hazel.”
“Will Renee do the same?”
Amelie remembered Renee’s disturbance in the original novel and burst into laughter. The Count also smiled.
“…I miss Renee.”
“You’ll be able to meet her soon. The promised day is getting closer.”
“Right? Where and what is she doing?”
Before leaving, the Count would sit by the bed as it is now, and Renee and Amelie would lie side by side and chat. Everything else remains the same, but Renee was not there. Her vacancy loomed large.
“Is there any way to find out what she’s doing?”
“Why don’t you look for it with magic?”
“Hmm, that sounds good, too.”
Amelie nodded earnestly.
“Don’t worry. Renee will get along well anywhere. More than that, I’m worried about you.”
“I’m doing well comfortably. Everyone is anxious if they are not good to me.”
“You’re doing something dangerous.”
“Don’t worry. The disaster disappears when I touch it.”
“….”
The Count thought for a moment and then opened his mouth.
“Did Hazel know about the disaster?”
“Witches didn’t even know about the existence of disasters. But since mother had been in the palace for a long time, she didn’t know about the identity of the disaster, but didn’t she know that there was something?”
Lira said there was no record of the disaster in the witch’s history book. Therefore, it was unlikely that Hazel knew about the disaster even before she came to the palace.
However, the reign of the Regent King was the time when the energy of disaster appeared most widely and frequently. Abnormal phenomena occurred so often that even ordinary people noticed. It was clear that the witch, Hazel, would have quickly recognized the ominous existence that had been lingering inside the imperial palace for a long time.
‘If there was a history handed down only in the Bourbon, we might have known of the disaster, but…’
There was no way to confirm at this time. There was no data left on the Bourbon family, as Hazel left nothing for Amelie.
‘Why didn’t my mother leave anything behind? If she had predicted death in advance, she would certainly have tried to record it.’
Didn’t she leave anything behind? Or, maybe she couldn’t leave anything behind?
No matter how many questions she asked, the dead couldn’t answer.
*****
The next day, having an early breakfast, Amelie and the Count exchanged tearful farewells. Then Ruben took Serwin and Amelie to the exact place where they started.
“Miss Amelie!”
“You’re back!”
Mrs. Enard and Milena sat on the drawing-room sofa, and sprang to their feet.
“You’ve been waiting here?”
“Can we just sit back when we’re worried since you left like that?”
“Are you okay? Aren’t you tired?”
Amelie smiled brightly at the enthusiastic welcome of the two.
“Aren’t you more loyal than His Majesty’s men?”
Ruben deliberately picked a fight with Serwin, but he became depressed because Serwin didn’t deal with him.
“Amelie.”
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
“I have to go to the office.”
“At this early hour? I don’t think anyone has come to work yet—”
“An old tiger must be watching, so I can’t stay still.”
Amelie was very sad to part with him, but she had a history of nagging him that he had to work hard, so she couldn’t actively hold on to him.
“Why? Are you sad?”
Serwin suddenly came close to Amelie.
“It’s just, well…”
Amelie pursed her lips. It was clear that she was disappointed, but it was cute to see her acting differently.
“Don’t cry even if you miss me, but should you have fun?”
Serwin smiled and kissed her forehead. His lips fell lightly, but the texture of his lips remained thick, and Amelie’s face quickly turned red.
‘Ugh, surprise kiss… are you trying to kill me?’
That’s how much her heart pounded.
‘This is why I don’t want to let you go anymore.’
Amelie hugged Serwin’s waist impulsively. As she dug into his arms, she could smell his familiar scent.
“Amelie?”
Serwin was very flustered, and stood still. He kissed her casually, but she wasn’t angry or shy, but instead she hugged him. What does this mean? Even Serwin’s smart head turned into a stone at this moment.
“Your Majesty always hugs me tightly. So I’m going to do whatever I want. You don’t have any complaints, do you?”
“…I don’t.”
It’s not just that he doesn’t have it. He felt like he could fly into the sky. Amelie was sad to part with him, so she hugged him first. It was like a dream.
Serwin put his arm around Amelie’s back. He hugged her very tightly greedily and carefully because he was afraid she would never hug him again.
“Should I just not go?”
At this moment, Serwin understood his father who destroyed the country because of love. If Amelie stopped him from going, he was going to stay with her all day, no matter what politics or other things were going on.
But Amelie cruelly trampled on Serwin’s expectations. She said, smacking Serwin on the back.
“You can’t. I heard the tiger is watching you?”
“…That’s true but.”
“I’ll be waiting for you to come back here.”
She shyly added, Serwin couldn’t be more stubborn.
“Excuse me…”
He dropped his body in regret, but at that moment, Ruben quietly intervened. Mrs. Enard and Milena glared at him as he inadvertently intervened. It was as if they were strangling his neck if it was not a big deal. Observing the surroundings, Ruben sternly brought out his words.
“If my father is here, can I follow you?”
Was the old tiger talking about the Duke of Odorus? Amelie was surprised.
