The Ultimate All-Rounder - Chapter 50
Chapter 50: Tang Yan’s Shock
In the short time that Xia Tian was daydreaming, the basketball team had scored four points. During that time, the four literature and art club sissies dared not disturb Xia Tian but the moment Xia Tian came back to his senses, joy crept into their faces. Without Xia Tian, the four were defenseless even against a single person.
“Huh, what’s going on? Why can’t I take his picture?” A person on the bleachers stared at his DSLR camera with confusion.
“It’s 4 to 0. Those people from the literature and art club don’t know how to play,” Yun Miao said softly.
“Sister Miao, don’t be so quick to judge. The basketball god is mesmerized by your beauty and hasn’t had the chance to exercise his skills yet. He’s about to shine.” Ling’er looked at Xia Tian expectantly.
“You don’t seem interested in the game,” Huo Wennu who sat beside Yun Miao pointed out.
“I’m here to accompany Ling’er,” Yun Miao answered.
“I really don’t know what you are interested in.” Huo Wennu turned her head around. She considered Yun Miao as the oddball in the whole of Jianghai University, someone that she could not put a finger on. Yun Miao never showed interest in anything — she never participated in any activities, never went out for meals with anyone, even ignored courtship from the rich.
“Sister Hui, how are we going to do this?” Asked a voice from another end of the bleachers.
“We can’t let him escape this time. I must get my hands on him.” Yang Buhui solemnly stared at Xia Tian in court.
The literature and art club served the ball, passing it straight to Xia Tian.
The basketball team collectively returned to play defense but Xia Tian leaped from where he was, jumping beneath the basket of his team’s court. If it were a few days ago, people would call him crazy for jumping under his own hoop, thinking he must be out of his mind.
The air was thick with tension as they waited for the glorious shot to happen.
Swish!
It went straight into the hoop.
3 to 4.
As expected, the ball went in. The ball had indeed gone in! Cheer roared from the stands. The shot was simply divine.
“That’s the shot,” Yang Buhui blurted in excitement.
“Sister Miao, look! What do you think? He’s amazing, right?” Ling’er boiled over with excitement.
Although Yun Miao’s face was expressionless, she still nodded slightly. Despite being almost unnoticeable, Ling’er caught a glimpse of it. That slight motion meant that Yun Miao agreed with her.
“He’s awesome.” Ceng Rou sat in disbelief at the courtside. She did not really take a fancy to basketball but she still knew the rules and had never seen anyone throw a shot like Xia Tian.
“Of course, we share the same blood after all.” Still harboring animosity towards Ceng Rou, Ye Qingxue suspected something going on between Ceng Rou and Xia Tian. Although there was no proof, this was her intuition — a woman’s sixth sense.
“Qingxue, why are you talking like Xia Tian is yours?” Bingxin who was seated beside Ye Qingxue smiled.
“Oh, you’re teasing me? Should I tell him you secretly drew pictures of him?” There was a hint of mystery to Ye Qingxue’s smile as she flashed it.
“No!” Bingxin cried out in a panic.
“Great, then you better be on the same team as I am.” Ye Qingxue was talking about resisting Ceng Rou.
The sight of Xia Tian scoring a basket stirred a wave of emotions within Tang Yan. After she returned from her stint overseas, she had the opportunity to witness the skills NBA superstars possessed with her own eyes but even then, she was sure that at this moment, no one possessed talent like Xia Tian.
The way he threw the ball with such accuracy foreshadowed the kind of superstar he would be in the basketball world.
He fully deserved the title ‘Basketball God’. Even Xue Chuan was caught off guard in court. Despite having prepared himself for it, it was still a shocking scene to watch.
“Don’t let him beat you down. Regain your spirits. We can’t lose!” Xue Chuan shouted, attempting to bring back everyone’s fighting spirit.
“I was merely captivated by my own charm.” Fang Li struck another stylish pose.
“Let’s go.” Xue Chuan dribbled the ball in an attempt to move collectively toward the opposite end of the court.
Bam!
The ball was stolen. Xue Chuan saw Xia Tian but he did not pass the ball. Instead, the ball was stopped by Xia Tian while he attempted to dribble it past him.
Swish!
The ball went in. It was now 6 to 4.
“It was all my fault. I underestimated him. This time, pass the ball if you see him. We’ll play the quick switch.” Xue Chuan gathered the players and discussed their strategy.
The five launched another offensive with Xue Chuan still carrying the ball. Xia Tian ran toward Xue Chuan but the latter opted not to dribble but instead, passed the ball to someone else who swiftly leaped into the air.
Bam!
A blocked shot!
Swoosh!
9 to 4.
The ball went through the hoop. Passing the ball around might have prevented Xia Tian from stealing it, but he was still given sufficient time to turn and block the ball as they leaped to take a shot.
“What speed,” Yun Miao finally spoke.
“What do you think, Sister Miao? You didn’t come for nothing, right?” Ling’er commented.
“It might be hard to figure out the speed and path of the pass but a jump shot can reveal the player’s intention. His ability to grab the opportunity to defend alone is outstanding.” Yang Buhui gasped in admiration. To her, Xia Tian was unrivaled in every single way.
He was formidable.
“He’s good.” Ceng Rou might not know much about basketball but she was completely dazzled by how formidable Xia Tian was.
“We all saw that, you don’t have to spell it out for us.” Ye Qingxue confirmed her suspicion after taking a look at Ceng Rou so she struck a look of discontent at the woman.
Tang Yan was immersed in total shock. Xia Tian was flawless in his physique. One of her duties as a coach was to strengthen her players’ physical fitness in every aspect.
However, she could not spot any weakness in Xia Tian. He did not need any enhancements especially since his abilities were already beyond any level imaginable.
She believed that Xia Tian would rise into a superstar in no time within the NBA ranks.
If she could put a word on Xia Tian’s character, she would say he was a person she despised. She hated the perverted stares he cast and detested him for forcing her to call him things like Darling, Sweetie, and sometimes even Hubby.
Nevertheless, she admired Xia Tian when it came to basketball. He was the strongest player she had ever come across in the industry. In fact, he was not even a genius because a genius would have to have the potential to triumph in the future. Xia Tian — he was already at his peak.
If he were to take a step into a basketball career, all the other basketball players should probably retire as they would become irrelevant.
