The Unexpected Baby - Chapter 15
The moment Avery got home she dropped the groceries on the floor, closed the door and locked it immediately after. Then she heard a knock on the door.
Had he followed her she thought. No he’s not that kind of person she argued with herself, when the knocking become persistent it brought her out of her reverie.
So she moved to the door, her hand on the lock, preparing her mind for what she was going to say if it turned out to be him, she was thinking too much about this she thought again to herself, then she opened the door before overthinking it again and the moment the door opened Jamal hugged her then pulled her away to look at her.
” Are you okay?, Did something happen to you or the baby” he said out of breath, turning her around checking for any signs of pain, instant relief showing in his eyes when he didn’t notice any.
“Nothing is wrong with the baby and I’m fine so leave me alone and besides why are you here?” she said removing his hands as fast as she could from her, she left him moving to where her groceries were, bending and trying to carry all the groceries so she could take it to the kitchen.
Jamal moved to meet her, getting the rest of the groceries from the floor and carrying it with her as she moved to the kitchen.
“I’ve been trying to reach your line since morning, I even asked the office to know if you went behind my back and went to work again but they hadn’t seen you, I was starting to get worried and was going to go to the police if I hadn’t found you here.” he replied looking at her
“I didn’t see any calls, and you didn’t answer my question” she said moving slowly to her bag to check her phone and was shocked when she saw fifty missed calls both from him and Belle and forty voicemails too from the both of them.
” Where were you and why weren’t you picking up your calls?” He demanded to know.
“My phone was on silent, Belle prolly did it so I can sleep, at least that’s what she tells me. I went to get groceries obviously and wherever I am or wherever I go is none of your business. ” she said starting to arrange the groceries t where they were supposed to be.
” You still haven’t told me why you are here or why you were calling me” she added trying to avoid his questions, she didn’t want to talk about it, about Javon.
“You keep trying to push me away, why? I wanted to take you to the hospital for your ultrasound and monthly check up, I don’t know why you act this way, and I’m just trying to be and to do better as a father, I don’t want to be like my father”. He professed moving so close to her, trying to keep his anger and emotions at bay.
She was speechless, she had never seen like this before. She was so much in her own thoughts that she was blind and didn’t see how much he was trying to be a good father.
“I’m sorry” she apologized slowly looking straight into his eyes, they were so close together, she could feel his breath on her face, they started moving closer to each other, both breathing slowly, the time seemed to stop…
The sound of the door opening and closing loudly followed by Belle’s voice tore them apart.
“Avery Bella Jones, where in God’s name did you phone?” Belle yelled at her after the big hug she gave her.
“What’s wrong with you guys, I’m fine. I just went out to get the groceries and why are you here, aren’t you supposed to be having your shoot?” she said as she made eye contact with Jamal, moving away from where she was to another part of the kitchen.
“I was in the middle of it when Jamal called me to ask about your whereabouts, I quickly rounded it up and flew back, I thought you were in trouble or something” Belle answered picking up a bag of ch.i.p.s from the bag of groceries and munching on it.
The atmosphere was so tense, Belle sensed it,
“Did I ruin something? Why are you two so quiet, Oh my God did I just c.o.c.kblock you? I totally did, didn’t I?” She asked wide-eyed looking at the both of them.
“You know what act like I wasn’t here and continue whatever you were doing” she said, leaving the kitchen and waving her hands slowly like she was talking to children.
“Uhmm… Can we go now?” Jamal asked picking up his key from the kitchen island.
” Oh sure, let me change into something else” she replied. She got changed and off they went.
