The Unsurpassed Maiden - Chapter 139
Mi Young does her best to get to the cave as fast as she can. At some point the giant scorpion got even angrier as the number of fireballs that were shot at her doubled, not to mention that the scorpion’s speed went two times faster than usual.
“When will this beast get tired?” The young girl whispers while she glances at the scorpion which was still coming after her. She shakes her head as she tries to focus on her goal. “Whatever. I need to get on top of that cave.”
The black haired girl didn’t waste any time as she climbed up the stone cave the moment she reached it. She can hear the scorpion still running but she knows it’s just a matter of seconds before the beast reaches her. So without glancing back, the young student climbs the stone cave as fast as she can. Somehow, while she was climbing, she remembered that one time where she and Se Heon were brought to the past. How she wishes she asked Se Heon that technique he used so she can use it to her advantage this time.
The student shook her head again when she realized she stopped for a minute while her thoughts wandered. She went back to climbing the stone with hurried movements. The moment her hands reach the highest part of the cave, that’s when the scorpion arrived at the end of the cave. And because its legs aren’t made for stones, it remained below the stone cave.
Mi Young didn’t waste any of her time as she threw her body on top of the cave, afraid that she’ll eventually fall if she continued looking at the scorpion in her previous position.
When she sees what was on top, Mi Young freezes.
“Holy sh*t.” The black haired girl sees a giant dragon sleeping soundlessly on top of the cave. The young girl might not have seen a lot of dragons before but this one is completely different. It has golden scales that glimmered as the sun’s rays hit its surface. “What a beauty.”
Mi Young didn’t know how many minutes she spent just looking at the sleeping dragon in front of her. But as soon as the stone cave where she was standing started to shake, that’s when she came back to reality. “W-What? What’s happening?”
The young girl removes her gaze away from the dragon for once to check what was happening. When she peaks down below, that’s when she realized that the desert beast was trying to destroy the cave by using its hard and pointed tail.
“The hell is this beast trying to do?” Mi Young whispers to herself. The beast continued its action, making the cave shake once more.
Although the cave was quite high, even taller than the beast, it still wasn’t that sturdy, given the fact that it’s quite thin for a cave. So the black haired girl immediately knew that after some time, if the scorpion continued its action without stopping, the cave where she was standing would eventually fall.
“What do I do?” Mi Young whispers to herself as she starts pacing back and forth, so immersed in her thoughts that she didn’t even realize the two pairs of golden eyes staring at her and watching her every movement. “If I escape now using a teleportation spell, I will be saved. But I won’t be able to retrieve Zhong Yu’s body. And if I don’t retrieve his body, what would I tell the people? The Great Sage? Or even Teacher Hwang? Oh, gods! What should I do?”
The cave shakes once more as the scorpion continues hitting the stone using its pincers and tails. “Sh*t. This is not good.”
The black haired girl started to panic. She really doesn’t know what to choose. It’s either she picks her life and lives with regrets and shame or she risks her life by trying to retrieve the body of a long lost person but at least she’ll be free of any guilt. “F*ck! Why did I even agree to this?”
“Why don’t you try and just breathe out for a second, yeah? You’re making me dizzy with all this pacing.” A voice suddenly announces behind her making her jump in complete surprise.
Mi Young’s eyes widened in astonishment the moment she saw who was talking to her. Then, she realized the golden dragon was nowhere to be seen. “Zhong Yu, you’re alive?! Wait, where’s the dragon!? Did you see the golden dragon there earlier?! It was so huge and beautiful and…”
Mi Young stammers the moment she sees the look on Zhong Yu’s face. “Sh*t. You’re the golden dragon.”
Zhong Yu only chuckled while looking at Mi Young’s embarrassed and defeated look. “Oh don’t look so defeated. Aren’t you happy I’m alive?”
With the other party’s words, Mi Young’s mind began working once more. She faces Zhong Yu again, shame and embarrassment completely forgotten. With a defiant look, she asks, “Yeah, why are you alive?! I mean, I saw the scorpion eating you whole! There’s just no way you can be alive!”
Zhong Yu shrugs while smirking at Mi Young, “What can I say? I’m a god.”
“No, you’re not.” Mi Young says with a confident voice.
The other party even had the nerve to look at her with fake disappointment, “Really? Can’t you just humor someone who just escaped death like me?”
“But really, Zhong Yu. What happened? I mean, how are you still here?” Mi Young asks. She takes a step forward to check the man if he was real but the moment she moves her feet, the cave shook again. “F*cking beast!”
“Don’t mind it. I’m sure we can manage to escape it this time.” Zhong Yu says in a very calm voice.
“How are you so sure?”
Zhong Yu smirks at her first before he answers her question, “Because now I got my powers back.”
Mi Young looked at her with eyes full of confusion, “What?”
The tall man sighs before he pats the empty space beside him, “Sit here while I talk. You’ll need to rest with all that running.”
“You saw that?” Mi Young asks with reddened cheeks. When Zhong Yu nodded with a smile, Mi Young huffed out a breath. “And you didn’t even go down to help?”
Zhong Yu shrugged before saying, “What can I say, it was fun to watch you struggle.”
The black haired girl throws him a deadly glare after that. However, she still went to sit beside him. Mi Young sits down beside Zhong Yu as she hugs her knees close to her chest. “Are you sure we’re going to be fine? You’re injured, right? Plus, I feel like this cave won’t last long since the scorpion has already managed to make a hole in the center.”
Zhong Yu sighs before saying, “Did someone ever tell you that you talk too much?”
“What’s that supposed to mean!?” Mi Young shouts while giving the man another glare.
“That you talk too much.” Zhong Yu says with a soft sigh. “But anyway, I’ll explain things to you. If and only if, you stop talking.”
The black haired girl was about to open her mouth to protest again but Zhong Yu gave her a glare to which she instantly stopped by biting her lips and looking away for a second then glancing back at the man again. “Fine. I’ll shut up. Just get on with your explanation so we can leave this sh*thole.”
“Good. So where do I start?” Zhong Yu says while softly touching his chin as if he was in deep thought. Then after a few seconds, he starts opening his mouth again. “So, days ago I made the Great Sage mad. I know, it’s stupid and it feels like a suicidal mission. But anyway, I managed to get away with it and he spared my life by giving me a punishment.”
“What’s your punishment?” Mi Young asks in a small voice. She didn’t know someone as great and as powerful as Zhong Yu can still get punishments like little kids. Guess the Great Sage is a huge deal then, Mi Young thinks.
“He took away my ability.” Zhong Yu says. “That includes my ability to make techniques and change into a dragon. I know, the Great Sage is the only person who can take away my ability even though it’s a heritage. That’s just how great he is. But don’t tell him I said that, okay? He’ll make fun of me. That’s for sure.”
Mi Young gets a chill running through her spine as Zhong Yu glares icily at her. She made a gesture by crossing out her heart and raising her hand in front. The other party nodded his head before continuing his story. “Anyway, he only left me with one fourth of my power, that’s why I couldn’t do much earlier. So, fast forward I got hit by blocking the beast’s attack and protecting someone.”
The black haired girl’s face immediately reddens the moment she hears that part of the boy’s story. She was about to utter her apology but Zhong Yu continued speaking, so she remained silent instead. “So, that’s why I was too weak to protect you and in return got myself an injury. But anyway, the reason why I told you to bring me to higher ground is because I know that I would get my powers back up here.”
“How?”
“Because I knew he was watching..” Zhong Yu says while smirking.
