The Unsurpassed Maiden - Chapter 141
“So? Who is this guy?”
The moment those words left the man’s mouth, a shoe came flying over his head. Good thing he was fast enough to dodge it. Zhong Yu glared at Mi Young, “What was that for?”
“For being an idiot!” Mi Young shouts while crossing her arms and puffing out her cheeks.
“Why? I was just asking you the name of the guy you’re always with, what’s wrong with that?”
“Nevermind. Let’s focus on more important things; like how are we going to escape this never ending desert.” The black haired girl says while looking at the dark and empty desert surrounding them.
The young girl didn’t get any response from the other party. Instead, Zhong Yu decided to lay down on the hard ground and found himself a nice sleeping position. He shifted for a few times before he finally settled down. But before he could even go to his secret dreamland, Zhong Yu uttered a sentence that made the young girl ten times better.
“If there’s only an exit door somewhere.”
Mi Young smiled as she repeated the older man’s words for the fifth time. ‘That’s it. We need to find a door that would lead us out.’ The young girl took a couple of minutes just thinking about her new day tomorrow with Zhong Yu until sleep finally took over her.
A man holding a huge staff on his right hand entered the huge doors, revealing a circular table where ten different Mages sat down. The man didn’t spare them any glance as he proceeded to sit on his own chair which was the only huge chair embroidered with gold and silver, just like the ancient runes embroidered on the man’s clothes.
“Greetings my fellow Mages.” The man announces before he finally sits down.
The ten men all stood up at the same time before they bowed respectfully at the older man who was sitting on the golden chair. “Greetings, Great Sage.”
“Please, settle down, children.” The Great Sage says before the ten men went back to sit on their respective chairs. When everyone has finally settled down, the Great Sage clears his throat before he opens his mouth once more, “A bird of mine told me about a secret meeting that’s been going on somewhere in the academy for three consecutive weeks. May I know why these people held a meeting without notifying anyone on the board?”
Upon the Great Sage’s opening, some heads immediately whipped from side to side, faces full of confusion and something akin to anger and some with shame.
“Who was it?”
“How could anyone break one of our sacred rules?”
“Have you no shame?”
“Silence, my children.” The Great Sage says in a calm voice. But even though he only uses his calmest voice, everyone on the table instantly shut up. That’s how powerful the Great Sage is. “I do not wish for you to fight. I also don’t wish for the ones involved to feel like they’ve done something wrong—”
“Why not? They have broken the rules, Great Sage. They need to be punished!” A man in a velvet red suit says while slamming both of his hands against the table.
The Great Sage sighs before he moves his eyes towards the man. He wasn’t doing anything but as the words came out of the Great Sage’s mouth, the whole room turned icy cold. “You dare interrupt me again while I’m talking and I will see to it that everyone in your family will not be spared.”
The man in the velvet red suit widened his eyes as he bows down in an apologetic manner while saying his apology to the Great Sage. “I’m sorry, Great Sage. It was foolish of me to interrupt your speech. I won’t repeat the same mistake again. Please, spare me and my family.”
The old man finally moves his gaze away from the man before he utters a small reply that still sends shivers to everyone who was listening, “Very well. But if you do it again, expect that before you can even utter an apology, you’ll be long gone.”
Everyone who heard the Great Sage’s warning to the other High Mage immediately sat up straighter, all words that were about to come out from their own mouths tightly held by their tongues. The Great Sage looks at them one by one, as if he was challenging anyone to open their mouth.
When the old man sees that everyone was now willing to listen to him, he lets out another tired sigh before saying, “Now tell me, why did a bird of mine hear three Mages having their own secret meeting without the other’s knowledge?”
No one dared to speak. Each one of them were either looking anywhere but the Great Sage, or looking at the table like it was the most interesting piece of material in the entire room.
The Great Sage hummed before speaking again, “Hm. I see, no one wants to speak. Does that mean that you are all disobeying my orders?”
All ten heads whipped towards the Great Sage’s direction right after those words left his mouth. They knew, at that exact moment, how terrible it is to ignore the powerful man.
“Wake up.” Mi Young’s eyes slowly open as she starts to stir away from her dreamland. “Wake up, Mi Young.”
The young girl slowly rises up from her sleeping position and yawns as she adjusts her vision. The sun was already high above the sky, casting bright light everywhere. Mi Young blinks twice to readjust her eyesight so she can see the man crouching in front of her.
As her visions cleared, Mi Young came to realize Zhong Yu’s face was a little too close for her liking. Her eyes widened in panic but before she could even violently react, her mouth was already clamped down by one of Zhong Yu’s hands.
“Don’t. Shout.” Zhong Yu says in a whisper. The black haired girl was about to react again but she saw the look on the other party’s eyes and she immediately knew something wasn’t right. When the other party realized she was finally calm, he slowly removed his hand from the young student’s mouth. “Whatever happens, don’t shout. Yeah?”
The black haired girl couldn’t form any words as she looked at the man’s eyes. Even though she didn’t know what was going on yet, the young girl was still even more careful as she moved her head to check what was causing Zhong Yu to act so alert and nervous.
She looks to her right and sees that nothing has changed. However, when she moves her gaze towards their left, that’s when she realized what was making the man so alert.
“Holy…”
“I know. Just don’t make out any sound.” Zhong Yu whispers to her ear. The black haired girl nodded her head as the man gestured for her to slowly stand up so they could walk away soundlessly and without disturbing the giant tarantula which was sleeping just a few meters away from where they made their small camp.
“It was already there when I woke up. Maybe it thought that we’re dead because we’re sleeping. Desert spiders don’t attack people with normal and calm heartbeats. We were sleeping that time so it was probably why we weren’t aware that we were still alive.” The other party starts to explain as they slowly move towards their right and away from the giant beast.
“Why are there so many giant beasts in the desert?” Mi Young asks while she steps on the ground soundlessly.
“The desert is so huge and if there are other beasts around, they probably see each other once and never again. There are also no other Mages around since we humans don’t like to dwell and stay long in deserts. So basically, they love it here cause there are less to no threats at all.” The man explains, still with his voice like a whisper.
Both Mi Young and Zhong Yu slowly walked down the rocky hill where they were making camp. They tried their very best in order to make the most minimal noise so they wouldn’t wake up the giant tarantula.
“Those beasts are very poisonous and vicious. They won’t stop at anything until they get what they want.” Zhong Yu says while he leads Mi Young down the steep hill. “Watch your step, it’s quite slippery here.”
“You know, why don’t you just turn yourself into a dragon so we can escape the beast easily.” Mi Young suggested while she followed the other party’s steps.
“I wish it’s that easy.”
Mi Young stops for a moment to send the man a confused look. “What do you mean?”
Zhong Yu stops as well as he turns around to look at the girl. He lets out a tired sigh before answering the young girl’s question, “I can’t turn into a dragon again unless this thing right here is full.”
The man pointed at something at his neck which made the young girl look at it.. And that’s when she saw a brown pendant hanging around Zhong Yu’s neck.
