The Unsurpassed Maiden - Chapter 142
“What’s that? Some sort of family heirloom?” Mi Young asks while still eyeing the necklace hanging around the man’s neck.
Zhong Yu shrugs before saying, “Kind of but not exactly.”
The black haired girl crosses her arms once more before telling the boy, “You’re making me confused again.”
The other party signs, “Do I have to spell out everything for you?”
Mi Young scoffs at him before saying, “Masters are supposed to teach their apprentice everything. Even teacher Hwang answers all my questions without second thoughts.”
Zhong Yu’s silence immediately made Mi Young know that she got the other party once more. After a few seconds, the older man sighs before answering the black haired girl’s question earlier. “This necklace was given to me by my mom. I don’t know how she knows that I will successfully see the Great Sage but she gave me this necklace way back when I was a child. She said that when I think that everything seems too heavy to bear, I just have to find the Great Sage and show him this. He would immediately knew what it’s for’”
“And so you did?”
“And so I did. After years of searching for the old man, I only stopped when he was the one who showed himself to me. I didn’t know how to react back then but I knew that he knew why I was there – which was a lot of reasons actually.” Zhong Yu replied with a chuckle. “Then, he told me to give him the necklace. Actually, at that time, I totally forgot about it. But when he mentioned it to me, I instantly remembered my mother’s words.”
“What did he do to that? And what does it have to do with your transformation?” Mi Young asks, eyes so round like she was hearing a very interesting story for the first time.
“Turns out that this necklace was the answer to my long time dream.” Zhong Yu says as he palms the necklace hanging around his neck. “You already know how I hate becoming the heir to our bloodline’s ability, right?”
The black haired girl nodded her head.
“So, this necklace is supposed to contain all my mana that lets me transform.” The tall man starts to explain as he turns his gaze away from Mi Young. “This necklace lets me be in my human form for as long as I want. And when the mana replenishes, I can transform into a dragon again.”
“So basically, that necklace sets limits to your transformation?”
“Correct. The moment all the mana inside this necklace runs out, I will instantly turn into a human. Doesn’t matter if I’m still on air or what.” Zhong Yu says.
Mi Young had her mouth wide open. “That’s…cool. Yet sad at the same time.”
“For you it’s sad but for me…” Zhong Yu looks down as he smiles at the necklace. “This thing is the most precious thing to me.”
Mi Young doesn’t know what to say after that so she just remains silent as she watches the man stare at his necklace for a few seconds more.
When Zhong Yu realized the silence that has enveloped the both of them, he clears his throat before he glances at the black haired girl for a few minutes. “Anyway, it will only replenish after some time so seeing as it’s still half full, I can’t change into a dragon yet.”
“Which means we can’t escape this tarantula.”
“Mi Young, as your master, I am allowed to teach you that escaping it’s not always about getting away from your problems.” Zhong Yu says with a small smile. However, there was something playing along his eyes which made the black haired girl squint her eyes at him.
“And how do you plan to get away by then?”
“Sometimes escaping is not always the solution, you know.” The man answers as he starts drawing something against the sand below their feet.
The young girl walks up to him to see what he was writing. When she realized what Zhong Yu was doing, Mi Young asked in a suspicious voice. “Why are you creating spells using sand?”
“I don’t know how you were able to find out I was creating spells when this language was lost even before you were born but yes, I am creating a spell that could answer your question.” The other party said while he continued scribbling against the sand.
“So your other term for escaping is creating spells?” Mi Young questions.
“No. Sometimes escaping is too cowardly. So you need to face your problems…” Zhong Yu starts to say but not fully finishing his sentence which made the black haired girl irritated because she wants to know what it was.
When Mi Young was about to scold him for being such a cliffhanger, Zhong Yu stood up and started to chant his mantra. The black haired girl was a little too late to realize what was written on the sand because at the same time, the sand below them started to shake.
“What the hell is going on?” The young girl whispers as she slowly moves towards Zhong Yu who has his eyes still closed and who is still finishing up his spell.
A loud shriek just above them echoed all throughout the desert. Mi Young instantly looks up to check what caused the sound and to her surprise, the giant tarantula was already on its way to attack them.
“Oh sh*t! Zhong Yu, stop what you’re doing! The tarantula is behind us!” Mi Young shouts as she starts to shake the other party awake. However, Zhong Yu remained standing and ignored her. “Come on! Stop that or we’ll be dead meat by now.”
No matter how hard Mi Young tried to stop the man, he still continued chanting his spell. Mi Young starts to fidget right next to him so she does what she thinks is best and immediately performs two different battle techniques so she could at least defend herself and Zhong Yu while the man continued whatever he was doing.
“This man is so annoying.” The black haired girl whispers as she turns her body fully and towards the incoming giant tarantula. “Here we go…”
The moment the giant tarantula steps on a certain spot just a few meters away from them, Mi Young shouts as she slams her right hand on top of the sand. At that exact moment, the ground beneath the spider exploded, making the giant desert beast fly away from them for a few minutes. However, it seems like her little move didn’t do any harm to the beast because after a few seconds it instantly went up once more and decided to pursue them again. However, this time, it’s much angrier.
“Sh*t. It’s back.” Mi Young whispers while she glances at Zhong Yu. And that’s when she noticed what the other party was trying to do. “Zhong Yu, you evil creature.”
However, even though she said those words, she couldn’t help but smile at the man’s idea. She thinks she knows what the continuation of the man’s words was. “You need to face your problems, by creating another problem. What an idiot.”
Mi Young chuckles before she focuses on the giant beast once more. It’s up to her to protect the other now knowing that the spell he was doing may take more time. Mi Young readies herself as the giant tarantula nears them again.
When the tarantula was at the same spot where she had attacked it before, Mi Young repeated her action by making the ground explode one more time. However, it’s as if the beast was already expecting that attack because the next second, it was already jumping towards the young girl.
The student immediately calls out her water barrier and uses her other hand to create a fireball which she fires at the beast the moment it hits her shield. Mi Young puts down her shield and fires another fireball at the tarantula which was still trying to recover from the first attack.
“Oh boy I won’t let you get away that easily.” Mi Young whispers as she continues firing fireballs one after another at the tarantula. At some point, it got frustrated and immediately surrounded itself with its web in order to protect itself from the young girl’s fire. What shocked Mi Young was the fact that the beast’s spiders didn’t burn at all.
For some reason, it reminded her of the giant spider she and Se Heon battled with back in the past. Then, an idea came into her mind.
“If that spider can only be killed using its weak spot, then maybe this spider has one as well.” Mi Young whispers to herself. However, because she was too busy thinking about the past and the possibility that the giant tarantula also has a weak spot, she didn’t notice that it was already coming towards her way again.
Mi Young only felt the sting the moment her body flew away a few feet from where she was standing earlier.
