The Unsurpassed Maiden - Chapter 144
“Zhong Yu, you know I hate riddles.” Mi Young says in a warning voice.
The man chuckled before shaking his head and taking the rock next to the black haired girl. “You really are impatient, aren’t you?”
“Just tell me already.” Mi Young pushes while kicking her legs like a child throwing a tantrum.
Zhong Yu glared at her feet before moving his gaze back at the young girl. “You just got healed, don’t throw kicks like that as if you’re a child begging for ice cream.”
“I wouldn’t be doing this if you just told me already.”
“As I have said, I can’t tell you. Just…not yet.” Zhong Yu says with a sigh.
Mi Young pouts hugely at the other party while she crosses her arms at him. “That’s not fair.”
“You know what, why don’t we just start to walk so we can get over that city for night falls, yeah?” The man says while standing up and dusting off his clothes.
“Can’t you just run like a speedster again? Just like earlier?” Mi Young asks.
Zhong Yu shakes his head. “That sand storm spell I created earlier took a lot of my mana since it was a forbidden spell. Plus, running across the desert with someone on my back at full speed was also exhausting.”
“Fine. Let’s walk.” The young girl replies while she stands up. She practiced her foot again to check if it was really okay before she started to walk towards the direction where the city was located.
Zhong Yu chuckles at the girl’s behavior before he starts to follow her as well.
While the two of them were peacefully walking towards where they were going, Mi Young decided to ask about the spell Zhong Yu made earlier.
“Hey.” Mi Young decided to say.
“Are you referring to me?” The man asks while pointing at himself after looking everywhere around them. “‘Cause I’m sure as hell we’re the only ones here.”
“Of course I’m talking to you. Who else is here with us, eh?”
Zhong Yu sighs in defeat after hearing the young girl’s words. “I will never understand how Ning Gwang was able to stand your rudeness.”
“What can I do, teacher loves me.” Mi Young says in a very proud voice.
“Must be nice.” Zhong Yu says in a sad yet teasing voice as well. He throws a sly glance at the young girl who gave him an eye roll at what he said. “Anyway, you wanted to ask me about the spell I made earlier, right?”
“Oh, yes. Why did you do it, if I may ask?” Mi Young asks, looking at the man curiously.
The other party shrugs before saying, “When I was young, my father sent me and my brother on a desert, just like this one. He said that in the desert we will find our solitude. We didn’t get it at first but after encountering thousands of different beasts in the desert, either living or fighting them, we finally realized that the reason why he sent us there was to make us stronger.”
The black haired girl nodded her head at her companion’s words. She completely understands what he was talking about so she just continued walking alongside with him and continued listening to his story. And so Zhong Yu continues, “One time, when we were just venturing out on the desert, hungry and tired, we encountered a giant tarantula. We didn’t know what to do with it, we were just seven years old for god’s sake. I was about to give up that time and succumb to the beast, I don’t even care what it would do to us. However, my oh so ever protective brother stood in front of me and fought off the beast with all his might.”
“Your brother? You mean Sir Zhong Liu?” Mi Young asks with widened eyes. “And you two were seven?!”
The tall man chuckled at the young girl’s questions. “Yes. There were seven of us. Anyway, Zhong Liu did his best trying to fend off the beast using our poor Electro abilities. But it was no use. I stood there, crying while watching my brother fight for his life. Until the beast finally got one of his arms.”
“W-What happened?” Mi Young asks. She was so engrossed with the story that she didn’t even realize the two of them had already stopped walking.
Zhong Yu on the other hand didn’t mind it that much as he continued his story. “That was the last straw. I didn’t know what got into me but as the beast was still occupied with my brother, I started to change my form. That was the first time I knew that I had the blood of a dragon. So, with the lower half of my body transformed into a dragon, I ran as fast as I could and snatched away my brother from the beast’s hands. I didn’t know how long I was running with Zhong Liu at my back. He was unconscious and I was desperate.”
“H-How did you two survived?”
The other party had a small smile on his face as he answered the black haired girl’s question. “That’s when we met Soo Young.”
“S-Soo Young? Little Soo Young with the blue hair?!” Mi Young asks. She even made a gesture by sizing up Soo Young’s hands using her hands.
Zhong Yu chuckled at her words. “Yes! Little Soo Young! I don’t how you two met but given the fact that even the Great Sage favors you, I’m saying it’s your destiny to meet the six of us. Anyway, we stumbled on a small hut near a river in the desert. The river wasn’t so huge but it was enough to quench my thirst. I also put down my unconscious brother and was about to make him drink some water but a voice stopped me. Little blue haired Soo Young slaps my hand and shouts right into my face without second thoughts.”
For some reason, Mi Young unconsciously smiled at the memory. “What did she say?”
Zhong Yu chuckled again before saying, “She said, ‘Do you want to kill your brother?! If not then don’t make him drink anything! Just not yet!’ After that she brought us into her small hut and magically healed my brother’s wounds. Although Zhong Liu was still unconscious, at least he was stable that time. His wounds also stopped bleeding. I thanked Soo Young after that but I was shocked when I saw her grim expression. I thought she was mad that I let a beast injure my brother but it turned out she was being alert and serious given how extreme the situation was.”
“Why? What happened? Was it about Zhong Liu?”
The other party closed his eyes while he shook his head. When he opened them, there was something akin to anger reflecting on his eyes as he said his next words. “While I was busy running away, I didn’t realize that the giant tarantula was still following us.”
“What!? It followed you?! For days?!”
“Uhn. And what’s more annoying was the fact that it brought an army with it.”
“Holy sh*t.” Mi Young whispers. Although what Zhong Yu was talking about already happened in the past, she still couldn’t help but feel concerned.
“Soo Young told me that the nature of the giant tarantula was just like that. They wouldn’t stop until they get what they want. So when it knew that it had injured one of us, it didn’t stop hunting us down and even brought a large number of tarantulas with it.” Zhong Yu continued while he looked up at the empty desert. “I panicked that time and was about to pick up my brother and leave but Soo Young grabbed my arm and said it was too late. That’s when I realized that the beast’s army was already surrounding us and running away would be a total suicide.”
“W-What did you do then?”
“Nothing.” Zhong Yu says while giving Mi Young a bored look. “It was So Young who fought them. She used the same spell I used and created a huge storm inside her hut. The moment the spell was casted I took both of them on my back and ran as far as I could. We were just a kilometer away from where the hut was when the spell activated. It shattered the hut and even made the river beside it explode. The storm was so huge it created rain all over the vicinity. That’s when I realized that it wasn’t fire or earth or even lightning that can kill the tarantulas but water.”
“W-Water?”
“Uhn. They have this little hole on their back. Soo Young said it was their weak spot. And if that hole gets wet, its inside will overheat causing them to die.” Zhong Yu explained while giving the black haired girl a smile. “Soo Young said that hole on the tarantula’s back leads to where its poison is stored. And when the poison made contact with the water, it would have a bad chemical reaction and would explode.”
“Soo Young knew all of that?” Mi Young questions, mouth hanging open and eyes full of wonder.
Zhong Yu nodded his head enthusiastically. “At such a young age she knew all of that! Isn’t she amazing?”
The black haired girl couldn’t even say anything as she nodded her head while thinking of the blue haired witch she met back in the past.. She wonders what the other was doing now.
