The Unsurpassed Maiden - Chapter 145
After their short conversation, Mi Young and Zhong Yu were suddenly enveloped in a comfortable silence. The black haired girl doesn’t know what to ask anymore since her thoughts were suddenly filled with memories of her past. She snickers when she remembers how strong-minded she was back then, when Se Heon was on her side.
“What’s wrong?” Zhong Yu suddenly asks out of nowhere.
Mi Young looks up at him and blinks in confusion. “What? Why?”
“That’s the third deep sigh you made in a span of two minutes, you know.” Zhong Yu notes. When he casts a side glance at the young girl, his eyes widened for a little bit. “You don’t even know?”
Mi Young shook her head. “No. Sorry, I was just thinking about something.”
“Clearly.” The other party says. “So, what got you thinking hard?”
The black haired girl shakes her head once more. “No. I just remembered someone.”
“Oh, so I guess it should have been, who got you thinking hard?” Zhong Yu manages to tease. He even had the audacity to wiggle his eyebrows suggestively at the young girl who threw him a murderous glare in return. “Come on, it’s so boring walking there in silence.”
“Then do something to keep yourself entertained. I have other things to think about.” Mi Young replies while crossing her arms and rolling her eyes at the man.
Zhong Yu, honest to god, pouts. He even managed to kick the sand on the ground like a child throwing a tantrum. “I shared something about my past, you should share something about yourself too.”
“I never told you to share something about your past, you’re the one who started telling a story.” Mi Young says while raising an eyebrow at the other party. “Plus, why would I even tell you about my past?”
“To be fair.” Zhong Yu says.
“Did someone ever tell you, you act like a child?” Mi Young questions while looking at the other party like he was someone mad.
“Did someone ever tell you, you’re rude as hell?” Zhong Yu fires back.
The black haired student scoffs at the other party. “You’re unbelievable.”
“And you’re undeniably rude.”
“Hey! That’s below the belt.” Mi Young announces while glaring at Zhong Yu.
“Just spitting facts.” Zhong Yu says with a shrug.
“Where did you even learn that expression?” Mi Young eyes the man with suspicion.
“Isn’t that what most kids these days say?” Zhong Yu asks with a completely innocent look. Then, he looks at Mi Young with widened eyes. “Or did I hear them wrong? Oh my god, I’ve been saying it to other people. Is that why they always laugh at me?”
Mi Young rolls her eyes at the serious and panicked look on the other party’s face. Pitying the other, she says “No. You heard them just right. And you’re using it right as well.”
Zhong Yu squints his eyes at her, “Are you sure? Then why do they always laugh every time I say it?”
“Don’t worry, it’s not because you’re using it in the wrong way.” Mi Young says while she starts walking ahead of the other party, leaving Zhong Yu confused and wondering.
The black haired girl was already a few feet away from him when he realized something. “Is it because I sound funny every time I say it?”
However, the young girl continued walking as if she didn’t hear anything at all. Zhong Yu ran after her and continued pestering the young girl while they were on their way towards the city just ahead of them.
“So? How do we enter that thing?” Ning Gwang asks while peeking through the window of the building in front of the abandoned house where the headquarters is.
“Can you stop peeking there for a second, who knows what they are using so they can check if there are spies outside.” Shin Yu says while glaring at her cousin. “And for the last time, minimize your voice.”
Ning Gwang sighs before sitting on the single sofa in front of Shin Yu. “I just can’t help it. I feel so powerless by abiding by all these rules you have made. I mean, come on, how can I not use my abilities here?”
“Because I told you, they have a device that can track any ability that resembles or came from the five long lost clans. Why can’t you understand that?”
“So what if they find us out? I mean, it’s only a matter of time before an all-out war would take place in the entire kingdom.” Ning Gwang says with a sigh. “Plus, I’m a hundred percent sure they already know you’re a traitor so why are you still holding back?”
“It’s not the right time yet.” Shin Yu replies with a tired sigh. “Trust me, I am itching to barge in that headquarters for a long time now and wreak havoc. But I’m trying my best to control myself because he said it’s not the right time yet.”
“He? Who are you referring to?” Ning Gwang asks.
“She’s talking about me.” A new voice said behind the two girls.
Instantly, Ning Gwang was on her feet, suddenly alert with the newcomer. When she realized who it was, her eyes widened in surprise. “You.”
“Yes. Me.” The man replies with a soft smile.
“Why do I feel like it just kept on getting farther?” Mi Young announced while they kept on walking towards the city ahead of them.
However, despite the hours they spent walking, until now they haven’t reached the city yet. The sun was high above the sky already and she was tired and thirsty from all the walking. She can feel herself getting drenched in sweat, and the sand that keeps on getting on her feet just makes her even more annoyed. She was hungry, tired, hot, and getting annoyed. All Mi Young wanted to do was scream in frustration.
Zhong Yu was silent beside her. When the black haired girl decided to ask the other party what he was thinking, she stopped when she saw his expression.
“Zhong Yu? Why the hell are you smiling?” Mi Young asks in astonishment. “Are you f*cking serious? Why the hell are you smiling while we’re in this kind of situation?”
However, despite the black haired girl’s demands, the other party remained calm and collected. With a deep sigh he faces the annoyed lady and says, “You’re right.”
Mi Young looks taken aback at what the man just said. She cocks her head to the side and asks, “What?”
“You’re right. It felt like we’re not getting closer towards the city even though we have spent hours walking! So, you’re right.” Zhong Yu says with a beam.
The black haired girl seems even more confused, “What the hell are you talking about? I’m right about what?”
Zhong Yu steps forward to put both his arms on the young girl’s shoulder. He gave her a pat and said, “We’re under a spell. If you haven’t said anything, I would never notice. So, thanks to you I finally realized we’re under someone else’s spell.”
“Huh?” That was all Mi Young could utter after everything the other party had said. Again, she wasn’t just hungry, tired, and hot. Now, she’s a combination of a lady who’s completely hungry, tired, hot, annoyed, and confused.
“Mi Young, do you trust me?” Zhong Yu suddenly asks, voice changing from being enthusiastic to a completely serious one.
“Huh?” Again, the black haired student was still confused as she ever was so she couldn’t utter a single word at all besides huh.
“If you completely trust me, we can escape this spell.”
“W-What spell?”
“I promise I will explain to you later once we’re inside the city.” Zhong Yu says while giving the black haired girl’s shoulders a squeeze.
“But that’s the point. No matter how hard we try to walk towards the city, we will never get there.” The young girl points out.
Zhong Yu sighs before saying, “I mean the real city. I will explain to you everything once we get inside the real city.”
“What the hell is happening? Really?” Mi Young announces while looking so confused as ever.
Zhong Yu looks at the city far ahead of them before he glances at the young girl once more. “I think they just made their first move.”
“They? Zhong Yu, who the hell are you talking about? And what’s with this spell? Can you please explain to me everything? I really hate being confused.” The young student shouts while she looks at the other party with a pleading look. “Please.”
“I know. But we can’t talk about it here. Just not yet. We have to escape this spell first.”
“What spell?”
“This.” Zhong Yu whispers while his eyes roamed their surroundings. “You know that we have been walking for hours, right?”
The black haired girl nodded her head. Zhong Yu continued, “And yet we still haven’t reached the city. Do you know why?”
Mi Young shakes her head.
“Because we are under a huge spell.”
