The Unsurpassed Maiden - Chapter 147
Mi Young can feel the sweat slowly rolling from her forehead. Despite the tension and the heat coming out of her own body, she kept her eyes tightly shut. According to Zhong Yu, you can’t let your body leave an opening while transferring your mana energy to other objects because it would break their mana bridge.
“Just a little more, kid.” She hears Zhong Yu whisper right beside her. She doesn’t know how long she was forcing her mana energy out but she knows she was sweating so bad right now and that her body is starting to feel sore. “You can do it.”
The black haired girl takes another deep but ragged breath before she pushes all the mana energy that she could give out.
“And…release!” Zhong Yu says. The moment those words left the other party’s mouth, the black haired student’s knees finally gave out. She fell to her knees as she tried to catch her breath. Mi Young felt a tap on her shoulder, “Good job for your first time, kiddo.”
The young girl was still trying to catch her breath as she looked up and saw Zhong Yu gathering the materials in front of him. Despite the lack of energy, Mi Young managed to ask, “What…What are you doing?”
Zhong Yu winks at her before he smiles and says, “Relax. Now that you have infused it with your mana, you will need a couple of minutes to regain your strength. So before you can do the spell, I’ll add more mana energy to it.”
Mi Young struggles on her feet before she decides to just sit on the ground a few feet away from the other party as she watches Zhong Yu do his thing. She can feel some of her mana and energy coming back to her but there was still some tingling sensation on the tip of her hands and feet that was giving her weird vibes so she opted to relax just like what the other party said.
The young girl looks up to observe the other party.
Unlike her, Zhong Yu looks a lot more confident and comfortable than her. He was sitting cross-legged on the sand, he had his eyes closed just like the young girl, but despite them having the same position, Zhong Yu looked much more powerful than her. No doubt he was indeed an ancient being. A living legend.
‘A living legend who said he can’t counterattack an illusion spell.’ Mi Young thinks while rolling her eyes at the other party.
Her eyes fell back towards Zhong Yu again and when she did, she was shocked to see the man emitting such a strong and powerful aura. Instantly, the young girl feels the great gap between their abilities. It’s as if the aura Zhong Yu was giving off was telling her to submit to him.
Mi Young scoffs while looking at the man, “And he dare say he can’t counter a spell like this. What a liar.”
Zhong Yu continued forcing out his mana into the materials the black haired girl gathered earlier. Somehow, Mi Young can clearly see a purple colored bridge that was coming out from the man’s hands and into the materials. She might have had her eyes closed during the process earlier but she was a hundred percent sure that there was no color coming out from her hands like that. Mi Young notes to herself she would ask the man earlier after he’s done.
After a couple of minutes just watching Zhong Yu nearby, and as Mi Young’s energy finally comes back to her, the man’s ritual comes to a halt.
Mi Young was instantly on her feet the moment Zhong Yu opened his eyes. She runs towards the man to catch him if he either falls down just like her but the moment she is ready to catch Zhong Yu, Mi Young immediately stops in her tracks.
The man was even breathing normally and there was no sweat present on his skin. The black haired girl turned a little bit red when Zhong Yu looked her way.
“What are you doing there? And why are you so alert?” Zhong Yu asks while he stands on his feet and dusts off his clothes like nothing happened. He looks at the girl and waits for her answer.
The young girl buries the embarrassment to the deepest part of her mind while she coughs awkwardly before answering the other party. “Nothing. I was just making sure that you have transferred enough mana to the items.”
Mi Young knew that Zhong Yu didn’t buy her excuse but she let out a sigh of relief when the other party chose to turn a blind eye to her embarrassing thought. Zhong Yu shakes his head before looking down at the materials in front of them. “Well, I think it’s level A now.”
“Level A? The highest level for magical items?” Mi Young asks in shock.
Zhong Yu nodded his head. “Yes and no. Level A is indeed a high rank for magical items but it isn’t the highest.”
“Oh, right. There’s the level S.” Mi Young added while she looked at the materials. Then something crosses her mind, “Wait—you mean to say that even though we have combined our mana energy together these items are still on level A?”
“For the most part, yes. These items are still on level A despite us combining our mana energy. However, that’s basically because I did most of the work.”
“What do you mean?”
“Even though you have enchanted these items with your mana energy, they were still on a low level before I put some of my mana on them.” Zhong Yu starts to say.
“W-What? What level were they before they turned to level A?”
“C.” Zhong Yu replied casually as if he didn’t hurt the other party’s ego. He then moves to crouch in front of the items to check them. “Hm. This will do.”
Mi Young just stands there. Dumbfounded and mouth hanging open as the same words repeated inside her mind. ‘My mana energy isn’t enough.’
When Zhong Yu was done assessing the items, he looked back at the young girl who was still staring into space before he sighs, “Quit your sulking and let’s continue with the spell or else we will be trapped here forever.”
The moment Zhong Yu said those words, Mi Young came back to her senses. “What do you mean we’ll be trapped here forever?”
The man sighs before he starts explaining to the young girl, “Illusion spells as huge as this aren’t easy to deal with. Anyway, the longer we stay here the harder it is to break the spell. Sometimes, if we take much longer than we already are, we might be trapped here forever.”
“Sh*t. Are you serious?” Mi Young asks while she slowly walks towards where the other party was standing.
Zhong Yu looked her dead in the eyes. “Do I look like I’m joking?”
Mi Young immediately felt the coldness radiating from the man as he gazed into her soul. Instantly, she bowed her head and apologized. Zhong Yu seemed to remember who he was talking to and what situation they were in so he sighs and says a small ‘sorry’ to the young girl again.
There was a second of awkward silence enveloping the both of them before Mi Young claps her hands together and starts with the spell.
Just like earlier, she gathered all the materials in front of her just like what was written on her spellbook and started with her chants. Although she has already done the spell earlier, Mi Young can definitely feel the difference between the materials she used earlier and after they have infused it with their mana energy.
For the first time since she started the spell, Mi Young can feel herself getting more confident as each word leaves her mouth. And for some reason, she had a strong feeling that this time, the spell would work.
When Mi Young was done chanting the spell, she instantly opened her eyes to check if her work was successful. However, the moment she sees their surroundings, her heart immediately falls.
“It didn’t work, did it?” Mi Young asks in a disheartened voice.
There was no reply from the other party but My Young didn’t even dare look at Zhong Yu since she knew that the other would just look at her with pity. She opted to hang her head low, embarrassed with her little stunt.
“Why are you looking down? Aren’t you happy?” Zhong Yu suddenly asks, which made the young girl look up at him.
“What do you mean?” Mi Young asks, sounding confused.
Zhong Yu shakes his head at her before he points at something above them. “Look.”
Mi Young followed his hands and when she saw what the other party was pointing at, the black haired girl’s heart started racing inside her chest. “D-Did it work?”
“Clearly.” The moment Zhong Yu said those words, the small crack he was pointing at started growing bigger and bigger until everything around them shattered.
Mi Young ducks down to avoid the debris of the illusion breaking around them. However, a voice of a female suddenly made her open her eyes once more.
“My, my, my.. What a bright duo we have here.”
