The Unsurpassed Maiden - Chapter 148
Before Mi Young could even see who the girl was, her eyesight was immediately blocked by Zhong Yu’s back.
“Hey, you’re blocki—”
“Get back. Don’t look at her. Whatever happens, don’t look directly into her eyes.” Zhong Yu says in a very grave voice.
Mi Young would have loved to answer him back but the graveness and the intensity that comes with Zhong Yu’s voice made her stop herself. Even though she knew Zhong Yu couldn’t see her, the black haired girl nodded her head.
“Stay behind me, Mi Young. Remember my words.” Zhong Yu repeats.
The moment he changes his body’s stance, Mi Young kenw that the game has just begun.
The female in front of them let out a flirtatious laugh.
“Oh my, what a courageous man as always, Zhong Yu.” The female says. Although the black haired girl couldn’t see her, she immediately knew what kind of trouble this person would bring to them. “I didn’t expect you two would break off that seal that fast. Let’s see how minutes you stayed there.”
There was a second of silence between them before the female continued talking once more, “37 minutes and 29 seconds! That’s a new record. That was indeed fast given that that kind of spell was heavy and strong. The last person who managed to escape it was—hmmm… let me remember…oh! None!”
Mi Young shuddered after hearing her words. The female continued laughing to her heart’s content while Zhong Yu and Mi Young remained silent, just observing their enemy and silently anticipating her next move.
When the female stopped laughing, there was a huge and heavy tension that surrounded the three of them. No one dared to move until the female started talking once more.
“Why aren’t you two looking at me?” The female asks while sounding sad. If Mi Young didn’t know she was an enemy she would have felt sad for her as well. “Am I not pretty enough?”
The black haired girl notes the sudden change in the female’s voice. Although it still sounded sad and lonely, there was also some tinge of challenge that came with it.
“I said, am I not pretty?!” The female suddenly shouts. Mi Young jumps from surprise because of her sudden announcement. However, despite the itch in her body to look and check what the female looked like, Mi Young listened to her teacher’s warning.
While she was hiding behind Zhong Yu’s back, she felt the alertness from the other party. She also observed the way Zhong Yu suddenly went still. Mi Young was about to ask him what’s wrong when she felt a sudden chill behind her.
“Hey, young lady. Why are you hiding behind the teacher’s back? Are you scared of me?” The voice of the female says behind her. Mi Young’s body freezes completely. She doesn’t know how the other party was able to go behind her within seconds. Then, she takes note to herself that this person they are dealing with right now isn’t someone who is easy to defeat, for people who can teleport are very clever and powerful Mages. “Are you shy? Why don’t we look at those beautiful orbs of yours?”
Mi Young felt the other party getting closer towards her and since she was somehow frozen in place, she couldn’t do anything else but to close her eyes. However, she immediately felt Zhong Yu turning his back and transferring the young girl on the other side so the enemy wouldn’t be able to touch her.
“Don’t touch her. I’m warning you Zed.”
“You finally said my name.” The female says. Mi Young felt another wave of shivers coursing through her body as the woman let out a dark and sinister laugh. “I am truly honored by someone as great as The Zhong Yu remembered me.”
“What do you want?” Zhong Yu asks in a very serious and dangerous voice. Mi Young even flinched upon hearing the intensity of his voice. She never imagined serious Zhong Yu could be this terrifying.
“Since you remember me, I do hope you remember what you and your clan did to my people.” The female continued to say, not even caring about Zhong Yu’s question.
“Zed, your people was at the wrong that time—”
“Wrong or right you still slaughtered thousands of people including innocent children!” The female, Zed, suddenly shouts. Instantly, the fake world that surrounded them pulsated as if it had a heart of its own. “You murdered innocent people and for what?! Just because some of my people rebelled against your law?!”
Zhong Yu took a deep sigh. “It’s not what you think—”
“And now that we fought for our lives you mercilessly killed every single one of us!” Zed cries out. Although she was the enemy, Mi Young still pitied her. To go into a situation like her is indeed terrifying. “Your clan already has everything! Power, richness, control, what were you still trying to prove?!”
“Is that why you’re so mad at me? Is that why you’re doing this? Do you think taking revenge on other people is what your people want?” Zhong Yu tries to say as he takes a step forward, trying to assert dominance against the other party.
Zed scoffs at him. “Don’t you ever tell me about what my people want, Zhong Yu. You know nothing about us. Nothing.”
“Then tell me. Tell me so I can give you the answer you deserve.”
Upon hearing those words coming out from the man, the female witch let out another sinister laugh. “Oh my, Zhong Yu. I don’t need answers. I already have them the moment the Queen lends her own powers to me.”
“The Queen?” Zhong Yu whispers.
“Yes! The Queen that would soon rule over this whole kingdom. The Queen who promised to help me avenge my people. The Queen who was promised.” Zed answers in between fits of laughter. “She is our Queen, the one and only prophesied Queen. She will be the death of you and anyone who stands in her way.”
“Who is this Queen of yours? Is she the reason for everything that has happened?”
Zed let out another laugh. “Of course not. She was the only one who whispered to her loyal servants the freedom they deserved. Everything that has been happening here is not because of her doing. The people under her were the ones who made everything happen because they think that’s what they deserve.”
“You killed innocent people. Even monsters. Do you think that’s the right thing to do?” Zhong Yu questions.
“Don’t you ever lecture me about the right thing to do because you never know what’s right.” Zed answered with a grave voice. Suddenly, Mi Young felt a huge tension surrounding them. It’s as if all the mana energy around them has gathered towards the location where they were standing.
“What’s happening?” The black haired girl managed to ask while she slowly looked around them.
Zhong Yu grunts before he answers Mi Young, “She’s starting the game.”
The young girl bites her lip as she scans their surroundings. Slowly, the desert that was once surrounding the both of them started to change its form until it reminded Mi Young of the very same place where she and Lady Ning Gwang last saw each other. The heart of the City of Furotingu.
“Well, I don’t know which place to make it, so here we are.” Zed says. Mi Young tried to look for her because it seemed like she was suddenly everywhere around them. “You probably know this place, right? This is the heart of the city where everything happens. And currently, everyone present here doesn’t know what’s going on.”
Mi Young looks around them and sees that the people that were walking around them are giving them weird looks.
“Can they see us?” Mi Young whispers to her teacher.
“Oh, yes.” Zed suddenly says while appearing beside Mi Young. Instantly, the black haired girl closes her eyes. “Aww, are you still trying to protect your eyes from me?”
“Why can they see us?” Mi Young questions her teacher with her eyes still closed.
Zhong Yu grips the young girl’s hands while he answers, “This is all an illusion.”
“Illusion? My, Zhong Yu, do you really think I’m not that evil?” Zed suddenly asks, voice filled with challenge and humiliation. Then, she slowly moves away from Mi Young before saying, “Well, I’ll let you see how cruel I can be!”
Suddenly, there was a huge roar that appeared behind them. When Mi Young turns around, she sees a giant beast, bigger than the desert beasts they have encountered earlier, coming towards their way. However, what she didn’t expect was the beast attacking the bystanders.
“This is how cruel I am!” Zed shouts before she snaps her fingers. Instantly, the beast attacks the crowd of people who were trying to run away from it.
Mi Young couldn’t even see and remember what happened next, all she remembers was the people shouting and running everywhere while the giant beats continued attacking person after person.
The shouts, the blood, and the horrified looks from the people somehow made Mi Young realize something that made her blood turn cold.
“This isn’t an illusion anymore.”
