The Unsurpassed Maiden - Chapter 149
“Mi Young, don’t look!” Immediately, the black haired girl felt warm and strong arms enveloping her so her eyes could be taken off from the massacre happening in front of her. “Cover your ears.”
The black haired student can clearly hear Zhong Yu’s words but all she could register inside her brain are the screams and cries of the people of Furotingu. Mi Young lifted her shaking hands so she could cover her ears. But despite that, she can still clearly hear the commotion happening.
“Come here.” Zhong Yu announces out of nowhere before he hugs Mi Young tightly. When the black haired girl felt a familiar feeling like she was lightweight, she knew that Zhong Yu teleported her somewhere far away.
Although they were probably miles away from the heart of Furotingu, the young girl can still hear the attack and the cries of the people. She looks at Zhong Yu who was standing near the window of the building where they teleported to. “T-The people…”
“I know.” Zhong Yu replies, not even letting the young girl finish her sentence. “I didn’t know she would really teleport us away from that headquarters. I knew Zed, if this was an illusion, clearly she wouldn’t let those innocent people be killed.”
“B-But she did anyway!” Mi Young shouts.
“Which means that someone is making her do these things.”
“She mentioned a Queen earlier. Do you have any idea who she was talking about?” Mi Young asks once more. Even though she never knew or met this Queen Zed was talking about earlier, she already wanted to get rid of her.
“I don’t know. But I have a feeling who is controlling her.” Zhong Yu says in a whisper.
Mi Young clenches her hands as she looks up expectantly at Zhong Yu, “Tell me. Who?”
The other party signs before shaking his head. “I’m not quite sure if I am referring to the right person so I can’t tell you yet.”
The black haired girl didn’t waste any of her breath as she stalks towards Zhong Yu, demanding him for an answer. “Tell me! Zhong Yu please!”
“I will. But if my hunches are right, I will.”
“Why not tell me now?”
“Because you’re not going to like what I will say.” Zhong Yu repeats while looking at Mi Young with saddened eyes. He looks at the young girl and sighs, “Please, just trust me. I will tell you, okay?”
The black haired girl searches the other party’s eyes, but when she sees the sincerity and the silent plea in the other party’s eyes, she sighs before nodding her head. “Okay then.”
“Thank you.” Zhong Yu answers gratefully.
The black haired girl walks towards the side of the young man and together they gaze at the scene in front of them. A couple of miles away, the heart of the city is burning. The people’s cries for help reach their ears and squeeze the young girl’s heart.
“What should we do?” The young girl asks. Then she looks around the empty street below them. “Why aren’t the soldiers doing anything?”
“I don’t know either.” Zhong Yu says. “Let’s make a plan while Zed is also hiding somewhere.”
“Are you sure it’s fine to trust him?” Ning Gwang asked while she whispered in her own cousin’s ear. She glances at the man sitting in front of them while casually sipping a cup of coffee.
“For the last time, Ning Gwang. I trust this man more than I trust you.” Zhin Yu replies while glaring at her cousin.
Lady Ning Gwang let out an offended scoff. “Well, that hurts. But anyway, how did the two of you…you know…come in contact with each other?”
“I met her when I was on a journey at the Land Beyond Men.” The man says, cutting off the white haired woman.
This made Lady Ning Gwang throw a glare at him. “I am talking to my cousin, not you.”
Despite the woman’s warning tone, the man continued explaining for himself and Shin Yu. “Anyway, I saw her bleeding and hurt so I came to her rescue and healed her with my abilities.”
“If it wasn’t for him, I’d be long dead.” Shin Yu added while he gave the man a grateful smile.
“Oh, really? What happened to you? Why were you bleeding?” Ning Gwang asks her cousin, giving her a worried and concerned look.
Shin Yu’s face turned red upon getting attention from Ning Gwang. She clears her throat, unable to say anything. This immediately made her cousin more curious. “Shin Yu? What happened to you?”
The other white haired lady was about to answer her but the moment she opened her mouth to explain, the man who was sitting on the other side of the room beat her to it. “Zhong Yu attacked her.”
“Zhong Yu did what?” Ning Gwang asks, forgetting for a second that they needed to keep quiet so no one would notice them. When she sees Shin Yu giving her a cold stare, Ning Gwang lets out a small apology before addressing the issue again. “Wait, how did Zhong Yu attack you?”
Shin Yu sighs before saying, “I was on a journey towards where he was staying. It happened a couple of years ago by the way. I was still searching for him, then some merchant gave me a tip and told me that he saw someone change from a dragon to a human in the blink of an eye. He didn’t see the man’s face but I was positive that it was Zhong Yu, so I asked him where he saw that man. When he gave me the location, I immediately found a way to go there without no one knowing.”
“Are you sure that the man was really Zhong Yu?” Ning Gwang asks, she felt quite agitated upon hearing something about her long lost friend.
“I’m positive. Anyway, while I was on my way towards where he was I met a lot of trouble. From rebels down to giant beasts. Although they were nothing to me, fighting a lot of them still caused me lots of mana.” Shin Yu says while retelling her own story. “Anyway, when I reached where Zhong Yu was staying we had a fight. It turned from a slight argument to a full on battle. Of course, since I am just a mere support I can’t do anything against a legend like him. So I ended up beaten and on the verge of death. And that’s—”
“And that’s where I found her.” The man says while finishing Shin Yu’s story.
Ning Gwang was about to scold him for cutting off her cousin but she held her tongue. She gives Shin Yu a concerned look before she stares at the ruined and soiled carpet below them. “Why did Zhong Yu attack you? I knew that guy, he wouldn’t do anything just to hurt us. Any of us.”
“But he did! I saw Shin Yu with my own eyes. She was full of blood and bruises.” The man says while pointing at the smaller white haired lady. “All because of that arrogant dragon.”
“Zhong Yu isn’t someone like that!” Ning Gwang fires back while glaring at the man. “He might be arrogant but he knows when to stop being one. And he’s not someone who would go on a full on battle against a dear friend!”
“But he did! Why would Shin Yu end up like that if it wasn’t for him?!” The man continued to argue as he stood up from where he was sitting. “Why the hell are you even protecting that guy?”
“Because he’s my friend!” Ning Gwang answers back, also standing up while still glaring at the man.
“And Shin Yu is his friend as well but what did he do?! He attacked her.”
“Well I’m sure he did that for a reason!”
The man laughs coldly at Ning Gwang. “Attacking a friend is fine as long as you have a reason? No, let me rephrase that—attacking a friend until they’re about to die is fine as long as you have a reason? Is that your principal now, Ning Gwang?”
The white haired woman was out of words. She looked at her cousin and back to the man again. “I don’t know how you knew Zhong Yu but that’s not the man I knew.”
“Are you really sure you’re Shin Yu’s cousin? Why are you acting like you prefer that Zhong Yu guy over your own blood?”
“Why are you twisting my words? I never said something about siding with anyone. I’m just trying to say that whoever attacked Shin Yu that day, I’m a hundred percent sure it wasn’t Zhong Yu.” Ning Gwang says in a grave voice. She looks at Shin Yu then back at the man. “I don’t care what you want me to think but I stand my ground. Zhong Yu isn’t someone like that.”
“I understand your argument but—”
“That’s enough.” Shin Yu butts in after her long silence. “Whether it was Zhong Yu or not, I believe it’s all part of the past now. What we need to discuss is how we can infiltrate that base without someone noticing us.”
“Uhh…about that, I’m sure I can help..” Another voice says from the doorway of the room.
