The Unsurpassed Maiden - Chapter 161
“So that’s why.” Mi Young whispers. She felt her body getting weak the moment everything made so much sense to her. How can a group of people who have sworn to protect their own people turn a blind eye and kill thousands of innocent lives? And for what purpose?
Mi Young couldn’t stop the questions that kept on flooding inside her mind. It was a good thing that she was already sitting or else she would have fallen on her butt if she found out about it too soon.
“I know that look.” Hae Choon says. He slowly gets up from the sofa before landing a comforting hand on the young girl’s shoulder. “It’s not your fault, Mi Young. They are just pure evil. That’s for sure.”
After hearing those words, all Mi Young could do was let out the tears that she kept the moment she saw the young girl say goodbye to her dead mother. Everything that has happened around her the moment she met Zed became much worse than her previous experiences, be it when she went back to the past, faced Se Heon in a one-on-one battle, or was stuck inside that hell-like headquarters.
Mi Young sobs as she lets herself cry. “I-I saw a young girl say g-goodbye to her dead mother’s body. She’s too young to witness the death of a loved one!”
“Shush, Mi Young. We’re going to end this okay?” Hae Choon whispers while rubbing the black haired girl’s back in a soothing manner. “Knowing that we have each other as well as Zhong Yu, we’re gonna end this right.”
Although she really wanted to say a word and agree to the other party’s words, Mi Young couldn’t even form a coherent word because of her weeping so she just opted to nod her head to tell Hae Choon that she agrees.
After crying herself out for a lot more time, the black haired girl finally stops crying. She wipes away her swollen eyes before coughing to get Hae Choon’s attention.
“Hey, are you okay now?” Hae Choon asks the moment he realized the young girl was done.
“Yes. Thank you.” Mi Young replies after giving the other party a small shy smile.
“That’s good then.” Hae Choon says while also returning a small smile towards the black haired student. “Do you want to ask me a question? You can ask me now since I’m feeling like it.”
The young girl rolled her eyes at the other party’s goofiness, which also made Hae Choon let out a small laugh.
“Anyway, since we are already outside, did you try contacting other Mages outside this city?” Mi Young asks with her big round eyes.
“I tried but then I realized two things. One, they have already put on a huge spell outside this floating city so that no forms of Mage communication can happen outside. And two, the City of Furotingu is a myth to other Mages so it will be harder to make them aware of the situation happening inside her.” Hae Choon explains. Then he goes one, “To be honest, although I hate what our enemies are doing, I am still awed with how well they have planned everything. The moment they choose this city as the first step towards their plan is already a nice move.”
Mi Young let Choon’s words sink inside her mind. And although she wanted to disagree, a small voice inside her head knows that what the other party was saying is true. Whoever is the mastermind behind this all have already planned everything out.
“If you say that all sorts of communication has been blocked, does that mean we can’t contact the Great Sage as well?” Mi Young asks.
Hae Choon looks at Mi Young with confusion at first before he asks, “Didn’t Zhong Yu explain everything to you?”
“What do you mean?” Mi Young asks.
“Even though the Great Sage is very powerful and can see everything that is happening around the Mage kingdom, he still can’t do something if the enemy is someone as powerful as him. Or worse, who is much more powerful than he already is.” Hae Choon says with a grim voice. Mi Young also noticed that he said the last words in a much quieter tone as if he doesn’t want to admit that someone can be more powerful than the Great Sage.
“There’s someone more powerful than the Great Sage?”
Hae Choon nodded his head. “Unfortunately yes.”
“Who?”
“Ancient beings. So ancient that they are even far older than the Great Sage is. Those ancient beings are the ones who have been hiding from the shadows ever since and were just waiting for the right time to attack and to make chaos all over our kingdom.” The other party explains, voice getting darker as each word leaves his mouth.
“Ancient beings? Like you?”
This made Hae Choon crack out a small smile despite their topic. “Yes, like me but they are far older than me. It was once said that Ancient beings were already here when the first Mages appeared.”
“Who are these Ancient beings?” Mi Young asks. Hae Choon kept on saying their names as if they are very important and powerful beings and that they can blast them anytime they want if they say one word that defies their whole being.
Hae Choon turned his head to look at the young girl straight in the eyes before answering her question, “Ancient beings are the creators of these beasts.”
“Huh?”
“Look, who do you think came first? Us or the beasts?”
“Of course the Savage beasts were already here when the first Mages appeared, right? That’s why in our history the first Mages were called the Slayers because they slayed each beast that manifested and inhabited our kingdom and forced them away from their own territory so we could build our own houses inside.” Mi Young replies, recalling the lessons and the words she has gotten from her father’s book collection.
“That’s right. Then, where do you think these beasts came from?”
“It was never known.” Mi Young replies in a whisper.
“Correct. That’s because the Ancient beings who made them are still hiding. They were so enraged with the fact that Mages slayed their kind and even had the audacity to inhabit their lands and forced them out.” Hae Choon replies while looking up at something in front of them. When Mi Young followed the other party’s gaze, that’s when she realized that the other party was looking at a painting of a map.
“Why is that map familiar?” Mi Young asks. For some reason a small voice at the back of her head kept on telling her that the painting in front of them was familiar. Everything about is so familiar with her. Then when she studies the geographical form of the land, that’s when she realized it was the same map of their kingdom. The only difference was that instead of buildings and walls, the map showed a painting of a land filled with mountains, hills, rivers, and trees. “Is that…?”
“Yes. That’s the original form of the city where we grew up. That’s the ancient land of the Ancient beings. That’s their territory.” Hae Choon replies, eyes still fixed on the map. “That’s why a part of me couldn’t entirely blame them since our ancestors were the first ones to attack and destroy their home.”
Mi Young watches the map with a disheveled mind. For some reason, a part of her agrees with the other party. It wasn’t the Ancient beings nor the beasts fault why they are starting to wreak havoc inside the kingdom when all along it was the Mages who stole their lands. However, she couldn’t stop the images of the innocent people lying lifelessly on the grounds outside which just makes her feel even more angry, but she doesn’t know who and which kind was to blame.
“I know you’re torn right now but it’s best to keep on sticking to our kind.”
Mi Young’s head instantly whipped towards Hae Choon the moment he said those words, “What do you mean?”
“Even though our ancestors were at fault, there are still some other reasons why the Ancient beings are acting out. And I think I know the reason why…” Hae Choon says in a dark voice.
“Huh? I’m confused.”
“Look, think about it. If the Ancient beings really wanted to kill us all and get back their territory from ys Mages, don’t you think they should have done it before? Why wait until now where Mages are already filled with much more knowledge?” Hae Choon starts.
“You said it yourself, they were just waiting for the right time.”
“Yes! But it never came to them that’s why they didn’t make any move for thousands and thousands of years. But then they started acting up right away. Why? Of all time, why now?” Hae Choon continued to say.
Mi Young thinks for a second.. She knew Hae Choon was trying to hint something to her but she can’t quite grasp what.
