The Unsurpassed Maiden - Chapter 164
Mi Young leans against the wall as she tries to hold her breath to keep the best from noticing her presence. Hae Choon was in front of her, observing the beast who has its back against them and trying to wait for the right time to catch it.
They were currently hiding at the wall behind the beast who was currently stuck inside Hae Choon’s trap. The other party was right when he said that the beast might be too big for his trap but at least it got its horn stuck so it can’t get away that much sooner. However, if the beast will give its all, it will definitely get out of Hae Choon’s self-made cage in the blink of an eye.
Mi Young wonders if she can get away from the beast before it can even get to her if their plan fails. Looking at its back, the black haired girl is already starting to feel mixed emotions while thinking of having to face it one on one.
“Are you ready?” The other party’s voice suddenly says that Mi Young jumped in surprise. When she looked up at Hae Choon, the man was already giving her an expectant look.
Mi Young couldn’t just shatter the other party’s hopes for her so with a firm nod and a determined look, the young girl says, “Yes. I’m ready whenever you are.”
This somehow made Hae Choon chuckle for a bit. “I have always been ready to face this monster.”
“So, while we wait for the right timing like you said,” Mi Young whispers while looking at the other party who was still eyeing the unsuspecting beast. “Aside from the fact that it had killed many innocent lives, is there any other reason why you want to kill it so badly?”
The black haired girl’s eyes might be playing tricks on her but she swears she saw Hae Choon’s body frozen for a millisecond after hearing her question. For what reason, she doesn’t know.
“Well, this One-Eyed Ram was the very same beast that controlled my brother to kill our whole family.” Hae Choon finally says after a long moment of silence.
“I’m sorry what?” Mi Young asks. She looks at Hae Choon with confusion, because surely she had heard him wrong, right? Right?
Hae Choon sighs before shaking his head. “I said, this beast was the very same beast that killed and wiped out my whole family.”
“I thought the death of your family was because of the Dark War.” Mi Young tries to say just to make sure that she wasn’t hearing things and that, even though dead, Hae Choon’s family met a more reasonable death.
Hae Choon slowly nodded his head at the black haired girl’s question. “Indeed. However, this beast also went into war.”
“How come? I thought his beast was controlled by the ancient beings? Why did it already go to war between humans?” The young girl continued to ask. She still doesn’t get why a beast such as the One-Eyed Ram could have been there during the Dark War between clans?
“A certain Mage experimented on it and made it follow her rules.” Hae Choon replies in a grave voice. Mi Young freezes upon hearing the sound coming out from the other party’s voice. It sounded pained, hurt, and angry. Very angry. “This Mage doesn’t even belong to any clan because she had no abilities or whatsoever.”
“But then, how come it managed to manipulate the beast?”
“With Dark Magic.”
“Dark magic?”
Hae Choon nodded his head to confirm the young girl’s speculations. “People with no magic and no mana flowing inside their body’s before were treated as outcasts. They are the people who weren’t favored by the gods. My mother always said that the gods have already seen the future and the destinies of these people. That’s why they did their best to take away the mana that was supposed to belong to them.”
“Why? Why would they take it away from them even before they were born?”
“To avoid war. The god took their manas from them because they were destined to make the world worse. Yes, there are people out there who still have mana and who are still making bad things. However, these people are destined to do much gruesome and evil things that’s why the gods feared them and so they took away their mana.” Hae Choon explained. “When that maiden found out about how selfish the gods were towards them, she sought out the most powerful Dark Witch that time and asked for her help. In exchange for her soul, this maiden asked the Dark Witch to give her the ability to manipulate other beings.”
If Mi Young weren’t trying to hide from a certain savage beast she would have let out a loud gasp by now but she tried her best to conceal her thoughts and the raging emotions she was feeling.
“And so she manipulated the worst beast that time, the One-Eyed Ram. Although it was much smaller compared to other beasts, the One-Eyed Ram is the most powerful when it comes to feeling out the auras of all the Mages. And with the sun shining high above us, it can definitely sense all the energies and mana around it. That’s why it was able to massacre a whole clan by itself. And of course, with the help of that maiden.”
“Who is this maiden you’re talking about?” The black haired girl finally asks. She was already trying her best to maintain her emotions. And the moment Hae Choon continued his story, that’s when she couldn’t stop herself anymore from asking what was the name of the heartless Mage.
“Zed’s sister, Zero.” Hae Choon replied with a deadly tone. “That woman will pay for all the things she has caused our clan. I promise to myself and to my clan that the moment I kill the One-Eyed Ram, I will find her and kill her myself. Even if it will cost me my own life.”
After hearing those words coming out from Hae Choon’s mouth, Mi Young felt a shiver run down her spine as she felt the overwhelming emotions of the other party once more. She can feel every hurt, every pain, and every ounce of anger coming out from the boy wave after wave. But despite that, Mi Young can still feel a huge load of pity for the other party. She couldn’t imagine the pain Hae Choon went through after all these years.
Sure being alive for millions of years can be great but with all the memories and experiences of the past with you, it can also be quite burdensome.
After her long silence, Mi Young opens her mouth to ask Hae Choon again, “Where do you think this Zero is?”
Hae Choon chuckled at her question, making the black haired girl quite confused. “Zhong Yu might have forgotten to tell you that the one guarding her very own sister’s heart is Zero herself.”
Mi Young freezes after hearing Hae Choon’s words. Everything made so much sense to her now.
The glimmer in the other party’s eyes the moment she told him about where she can find the heart of Zed. The excitement he let out the moment the beast fell into his trap. And the joy as well as the murderous intent he was giving off with the idea of having to kill the two monsters that ransack his whole clan. All along the answer was in Mi Young’s words.
“That’s why I was so happy when you told me that you have found Zed’s heart because I know from the very start that’s where Zero is hiding.” Hae Choon says while staring at the beast in front of them.
“How did you learn that she was there?” The black haired girl asks.
Hae Choon shrugs. “I investigated for years. That’s why I agreed to Ning Gwang’s suggestion before mastering Time Magic with her. Because the more I have time, the more I can investigate and learn Zero’s whereabouts.”
“I thought your main goal was to set Ireene free.” Mi Young quietly says.
Hae Choon nodded her head. “That’s true. But while I’m waiting for the right time to set her free I was also using it as a chance to find where my enemies are at. Aside from that, seeing as the prophecy is coming true, I am confident that I can execute my revenge well and at the same time set Ireene free.”
“Prophecy?” Mi Young asks. She suddenly remembered the main reason why she, Lady Ning Gwang, and Kwang Soo went into the City of Furotingu. “What prophecy are you talking about?”
Hae Choon moves his gaze from the beast and towards the other party.. He was looking at Mi Young like a confused deer. Then, he cocks his head to the side and asks in a calm and confident voice, “The prophecy about you? The great prophecy the Firs Great Sage has spoken about?”
