The Unsurpassed Maiden - Chapter 166
Mi Young didn’t know how many hours she stayed on the floor weeping as she hugged the lifeless body of her dear friend Hae Choon. She is filled with so many regrets and a load of sadness as she tries to recall the last moments she had with the other party. The black haired girl might have only known the other party for a brief moment but she couldn’t deny that the two of them already shared a bond that can be called friendship.
From the very moment she bumped into Hae Choo down to the part where they got separated and reunited once more because of certain situations, Mi Young knew deep in her heart that she and Hae Choon were destined to meet each other.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t able to stop you from being corrupted by your anger.” Mi Young whispers in between sobs as she looks at Hae Choon’s pale and lifeless face. The other party had his eyes closed and he wasn’t moving or breathing. “I promise I’ll set Ireene free for you.”
Mi Young said her one last prayer towards the other party before he gently places him down on the cold hard floor. When she sees that the part where Hae Choon was standing was also not burned, she realized that the other party made extra effort into executing his killing technique without harming him and Mi Young. The other party wondered how hard it was for Hae Choon to control his mana just to not hurt the young girl.
Wiping her tears, Mi Young sniffs before kneeling in front of the lifeless Hae Choon, “I wish I could have said thank you to you for saving my life a couple of times. If it weren’t for you I’d be long dead. And I wanted to say sorry for not being able to protect you this time.”
“For how long are you going to stay there?” A voice suddenly asks behind the black haired girl.
Freezing on her spot, Mi Young slowly looks behind her to see who was the owner of the voice. And she was right, it was indeed her friend who she hadn’t seen for so long.
“Soo Young?” The black haired girl says while looking at the blue haired girl with bewilderment.
“Yup. That’s my name.” The smallest girl says while giving the other party a wink.
“Why are you here?” Mi Young asks in surprise, forgetting for a second about Hae Choon. Then she realized that Soo Young was alone and she looked like she wasn’t real. Like she was some sort of an illusion because for a split second, Mi Young thought she could see through the other party’s body.
The blue haired girl must have noticed the confusion in the other party’s eyes because she chuckled and said, “Yes. I’m not real. Well, technically I’m real but I’m not with you right now.”
“W-What do you mean?” Mi Young asks again, even more confused than the last time.
Soo Young sighs before fixing the fringes of her hair, a sign that she was getting bored. “I’m with the others right now and we’re on our way to meet up with you so I suggest you stay wherever you are right now.”
“W-What? Who are you with?”
“What you are saying right now is just my illusion. You might have not noticed this before but I attached one of my tiny little insects with you ever since you traveled back to your present timeline. Anyway, long story short, I managed to track you using it so I’m saying “stay wherever you are and stop crying over that Hae Choon.” Soo Young explains while crossing her arms.
Mi Young was even more confused with how Soo Young was acting. Why is she acting like Hae Choon’s death isn’t something important? The blue haired girl must have again seen the change in the young student’s expression because he sighed once more before explaining, “Hae Choon is not dead. So stop crying over him, okay?”
“H-He’s not dead? How can you say that? He’s not breathing! I saw him use the Killing Technique towards the One-Eyed Ram!” Mi Young announces, not minding that she was sounding rude. She just couldn’t tolerate the other party acting like Hae Choon’s death wasn’t a big deal.
“Mi Young, trust me. He’s not dead.” Soo Young says again, voice sounding more serious than her usual voice.
“B-But I saw him—”
“Indeed you saw. And you’re right, the Killing Technique is indeed a technique used by assassins and soldiers who want to die with their secrets while also giving their final killer move to kill their opponents. And yes, Hae Choon successfully killed the One-Eyed Ram and in exchange for it he sacrificed a life. But the life he sacrificed wasn’t his’ so he didn’t technically die, okay? Are you good now? Is that enough explanation for you?” Soo Young asks while crossing her arms at Mi Young.
The black haired girl was looking up at him with her mouth hanging open. Mi Young couldn’t even process the other party’s words as she continued looking at her blankly.
Soo Young must have felt annoyed and irritated because the black haired girl was just staring at her with a blank expression because the next second, she was shouting at the young girl, “Stop staring at me with that blank look! Anyway, remember what I said, stay where you are and we’ll come get you! If you move so much, I’m going to kill you with my own two hands! Got it?”
Mi Young was still staring blankly at her but she managed to nod her head in confirmation to what the other party had said.
“Good. Then, I’m off!” Soo Young’s illusion says one last time before she disappeared into thin air.
It was a couple of minutes later that the black haired girl was able to find her right mind again. She coughs before blinking rapidly. She lets Soo Young’s words sink inside her mind before she realized what the other party had said. In a blink of an eye, she was rushing towards Hae Choon’s unconscious body once more.
She pokes the cold body and asks in a small and unsure voice, “Hey? Are you awake?”
Mi Young pokes Hae Choon’s unmoving body again and tries to ask him if he was awake but he gets no answer from the other party. Mi Young pouts and crosses her arms, “But Soo Young said you’re not dead. Then why are you not moving?”
Since Hae Choon was showing no signs of moving, Mi Young just decided to get some fabric to cover the boy’s cold body and give it warmth even just for a little bit. She also started looking for any signs of the One-Eyed Ram’s body but she saw nothing except a pile of dust where the savage beast turned into.
While she was examining and investigating the spot where the One-Eyed Ram was lying earlier, she saw something shining just above the pile of dust.
“The hell is that?” Mi Young whispers to herself as she walks slowly towards the pile of dust to check what was shining on top of it.
When the black haired girl finally neared it she realized it was a stone. Mi Young went to fetch the stone in her hands. She examined it more closely and realized that it was still quite hot. There was also a single rune letter engraved on its center. Mi Young read it and realized that it was the letter E.
“E? For what? Wait, where did this come from?” The young student looked everywhere around the beast’s lying ground to check where the rune can be from but to no avail, she found nothing. Sighing, Mi Young decided to just ask Soo Young when she comes. “Speaking of Soo Young, who could be with her?”
Noticing that there isn’t much she can do, the black haired girl continued to investigate all around the place. She walks around the area and realizes that everything near Hae Choon was indeed burnt. And when she walked further away, the unscathed part was filled with white dust.
Mi Young touched the white dust and realized that it was shining under the light coming from the windows.
“What is this?” The black haired girl whispers to herself. “It’s different from the dust of the savage beast’s body. Then what could this be?”
The young student continued examining the white dust until she gave up because she couldn’t find any answers. So the black haired girl decided to walk back towards where she left Hae Choon’s body and she was surprised to see that the man was already sitting down the moment she arrived.
“Sh*t! You’re awake!” Mi Young announces as she runs towards Hae Choon and tackles him into the ground with a hug. “You scared the sh*t out of me you moron! Why did you even do that?!”
Mi Young felt hot tears streaming down her face when she realized that Have Choon’s body was once again warm to the touch. “Don’t you ever do that again, okay?”
