The Unsurpassed Maiden - Chapter 170
“Do you have any idea what this Prophecy everyone is talking about?” Mi Young suddenly asks after a couple of minutes of silence.
Hae Choon shrugs before looking calmly at her. “Since I lost most of my memories, I don’t have any idea about it. But I only know one thing.”
“What is it?” Mi Young asks, intrigued. She’ll accept anything as long as it can help her learn more about this big prophecy she keeps on dreaming about.
Hae Choon looked at her curiously. “Why do you want to know so much about it?”
Mi Young stops before sighing. Even though Hae Choon is a person she trusts, she can’t let anyone else know more about her dreams. “I’ve been hearing a lot about it lately and I’m curious.”
The other party studied her for a moment like he was trying to assess if the black haired girl was lying to him or not. When he realized that the young girl was indeed curious, Hae Choon sighs before telling Mi Young his knowledge about the prophecy. “I only know some specifics about it to be honest. Nothing big.”
Mi Young didn’t reply to the other party and just decided to stay silent. However, she kept looking at Hae Choon’s eyes to let him know that she was all ears. So the man continued, “Anyway, it all started when a foreigner went inside the walls of our kingdom.”
“Foreigner?” Mi Young questions with eyebrows furrowed.
Hae Choon nodded his head. “Yes. Someone outside and wasn’t born inside our kingdom entered the kingdom’s walls making every head of the clan alert. He was immediately sentenced to death since he was basically from outside our kingdom which was the territory of our mortal enemies – the savage beasts so every Mage instantly thought of him as someone like them. Anyway, before his public execution, the head of the nine clans all met him at the same time. I assumed it was when he talked about the prophecy to them. I don’t know what else they talked about because I only heard it when my adopted father and mother were whispering about it when they thought I was already asleep.”
“What else?” Mi Young asks in a whisper, for some reason she was curious about this ‘foreigner’ who introduced the prophecy to them.
“They said that the prophecy wouldn’t happen unless the maiden from the future would be born. No one else had any idea about it. Some even said that there was a hint written on the prophecy but no matter what generation they try to link with the prophecy, no one fits the description.”
“So you’re saying this prophecy was bound to happen after millions of years during your time?” Mi Young asks.
Hae Choon nodded his head. “And based on what you have told me since I lost my memories, I have a feeling that this is the time when the prophecy will come true.”
“How are you sure?” Mi Young asks, still looking at the other party’s eyes to make him believe that she doesn’t have any idea about it as well.
“Well, it’s like the old times again. War is coming and it’s near. I can feel it. I just knew that it has something to do with the prophecy they’re talking about in the past.” Hae Choon explained with a sigh.
“And this foreigner you were talking about? Is he dead already? What happened to him?”
Hae Choon shakes his head. “I don’t have any idea. But I’m sure that his execution never happened.”
“Why?”
“Because he was able to escape.” Hae Choon says. “I don’t know if he escaped or if someone from the nine clans helped him escape.”
All Mi Young could do was nod and let out a hum. Everything she’s learning is just too much for her. But, at the same time, everything’s making sense. But to the black haired girl, it wasn’t enough. She needs to learn why she’s seeing it in her dreams? Why was it keeping her awake? Why did the voice keep on telling her that she was the woman in the prophecy?
“Do you think you know someone who can be the one the prophecy was talking about?” Hae Choon suddenly asks, eyes looking directly at Mi Young.
The black haired girl didn’t back down from the intense gaze of the other party, instead she returned with much more intensity. “I do. But I know you have someone in mind too. But since your memories are lacking and you don’t trust me that much, I’m not going to tell you unless you tell me who you’re thinking of.”
Hae Choon let out a genuine chuckle after hearing the black haired girl’s thoughts. “Wise choice.”
After that, the two of them remained silent once more. No one dared to talk as both of them were thinking deeply. The other was filled with so many questions while the other was trying to connect everything she has learned so far.
“What town is this?” Se Heon asks while he looks around the burning town around them. Everywhere he looked, there were fire and dead bodies scattered.
Some were even moving, asking for help, but no one came to aid them. Se Heon couldn’t stop himself from taking pity for all the people that he sees even though he knew that they were all just part of the past.
“This town was erased from all the history books as well as the map of the Mage kingdom.” Zhong Liu answers while looking straight ahead of them as they both followed the leader of the Jeon’s.
“Why?”
“Because someone wants them to be forgotten.” Zhong Liu answered. “I mean, look everywhere around you. Clearly, you can see that someone wants them dead.”
“But who could do such a thing? Why would they kill innocent lives? Let alone erase a whole town’s existence?”
“Why don’t you ask him?” Zhong Liu suggests while finally stopping from his tracks. He points at someone in front of them making Se Heon stop walking as well.
When Se Heon turned his gaze towards the person the other party was talking about, he saw no one else but the first head of the Jeon clan. “I thought he can’t see us?”
“He can’t. But we can see all his actions. Now, watch.” Zhong Lius instructed as he kept his eyes rooted towards the ghostly-figure of the first Jeon.
Se Heon didn’t say anything else as he followed Zhong Liu’s instructions. Although he wanted to ask so many questions, he remained silent and mentally took not to ask them later.
So with a confused mind, the young Pyro Mage watches the head of their clan crouch down at something in front of him as he bows and chants some words.
“What is he saying—”
“Just watch.” Zhong Liu says while giving the man a side glance.
Se Heon rolled his eyes but kept his mouth shut after that.
Then, the once empty road where the first Jeon was kneeling was suddenly filled with so much light. No, they’re not lights, but balls of fire.
“This is…”
“The Soul Ritual. Yes.” Zhong Liu finishes Se Heon’s sentence.
“But why is doing the Soul Ritual?” Upon asking his own question, Se Heon’s eyes widened when he realized the answer to his own question. “Don’t tell me…”
Suddenly, cries from all the remaining survivors all around the burning town can be heard at the same time. Se Heon’s heart constricts as he hears the wail of agony of every person around them. He wants them to stop but he knows he can’t do anything because they’re all gone. Then, his eyes moved towards the first Jeon who was responsible for the ritual.
“What are you doing?” Se Heon whispers to the other party even though he knew that the first Jeon can’t hear him. He wanted to wake the other, shake him up and demand him to stop because he was killing so many lives. But he knows that even if he can touch the other party, he is not much for him. An individual who can do the Soul Ritual has reached a certain level of control of his own mana and the mana that was surrounding them. If Se Heon was to interfere with the first Jeon, he would become a pile of dust in the blink of an eye.
So, the young man endured all the agonizing wails and the pleas of help coming from the souls of every last person all around this town. When the ritual finally ended, the wailing stopped and all the balls of fire surrounding the first Jeon became one.
“The Flame of Life, it’s nice to finally see you.” The First Jeon suddenly says when the big ball of fire went in front of him.
Se Heon shivered after hearing the ghostly voice of the first Jeon.
The Flame of Life spoke to the first Jeon, “Alastar Jeon. Why have you summoned me?”
“I came here to offer you something..” The first Jeon replies.
