The Unsurpassed Maiden - Chapter 171
Se Heon couldn’t quite hear what the Flame of Life and the First Jeon was talking about because their voices were barely a whisper so he takes a step forward to be able to hear them properly. However, the scene in front of him changes suddenly.
“H-Hey! Wait! What was that?” Se Heon calls out to no one in particular. He turns his gaze towards the calm looking Zhong Liu and asks, “Why did it change? Hey!”
However, Zhong Liu answered him by putting his fingers against his lips. “Just watch.”
Then, the teacher points at something behind Se Heon. The young man immediately faces his back to see what the other party was pointing at. His eyes widen in surprise when he sees the First Jeon all tied up in the center of a stage.
Se Heon noticed that the chains that were tied on both sides of the First Jeon were the same magical chains that were displayed in their villa back in his hometown. They said that those chains were the chains used by the First Jeon and it gave him much power. But why is he tied up by those chains right now?
“I don’t understand.” Se Heon whispers to himself as he looks at the chains tied on the First Jeon’s hands. “Who tied him up?”
“You’ll see.” Zhong Liu replies with a calm voice. Then, another voice suddenly spoke, making Se Heon jump a little in surprise.
“Alastar Jeon.” The voice says once more. Se Heon realized that it was the voice of the Flame of Life. The moment the huge ball of fire appeared above the First Jeon, the man who was tied up in chains started to move.
“Oh thank god he’s alive. I thought you’re showing me the day he died.” Se Heon whispers beside Zhong Liu as he lets out a sigh of relief. Zhong Liu answered him by giving him a side glance.
“Alastar Jeon, the first of his name and the first head of the Jeon clan. He who holds the mighty and bright Fire for all Pyro Mages.” The Flame of Life starts to say. Although Se Heon was still confused as to why the First Jeon was tied up, he remained silent as he watched the scene unfold in front of him. “You bring hope and life to your people. But you are also the reason why the fires of other Mages like the people of the Ban clan were distinguished. You have called me by gathering these poor souls in your self-made altar. And now you have come here, chained yourself, and sacrifice your life for me so we can be one. Alastar Jeon, tell me, are you ready to carry all the burden and all the fires of these lost souls with your forever?”
Se Heon watches as the First Jeon finally holds his head as it looks at the Flame of Life floating just above him. With a hoarse voice, the First Jeon replies, “Yes.”
“Very well. By sacrificing these thousands of lives and your remaining lives, we shall be one.” The Flame of Life says before a bright shining light enveloped the whole room. Se Heon and Zhong Liu both closed their eyes to avoid blinding themselves.
All Se Heon can hear was the pained shout of the First Jeon as he and the Flame of Life become one. Se Heon still has many questions but the moment the shouts disappeared and the bright light vanished, they were already on another different scene.
“W-Where are they?” Se Heon asks.
Just when he was about to ask his companion something again, the image of the First Jeon appeared in front of them. They were again in a different scenery. Se Heon looks everywhere and sees a massive field of grass, then he sees a lone maple tree on a hill just a few feet away from them. The young man recognizes the hill that was located at the backmost part of their academy.
“Was this already a school even before?” Se Heon couldn’t stop himself from asking as he looked to his left to see if the academy was already there. To his surprise, the main castle which was where the rooms and the facilities of the Ten Great Mages were located was already standing there, in the same exact area where it was located right now.
“Only the castle. It wasn’t a school before but the castle of Jeon’s.” Zhong Liu replied, eyes still glued on the figure of the First Jeon who was standing steadily at the lone maple tree.
“The Jeon’s used to own the castle in the academy?” Se Heon asks, voice filled with astonishment.
Zhong Liu gives the other party an irritated look. “Can we focus on the more important things?”
Se Heon, who seemed to remember why they were there, blinks up in surprise. He scratches his head before giving the teacher a sheepish smile, “Oh, right. Sorry.”
The teacher only shakes his head before he instructs the student to come with him. Together, they walked towards the hill where the maple tree was and where the First Jeon was standing.
As they neared the man, Se Heon couldn’t stop gawking at him. Although his face was still the same like nothing happened, the aura and the way he carries himself definitely changed.
“He looks more powerful…” Se Heon says in amazement. His eyes were fixed on the First Jeon’s proud figure that he didn’t notice someone approaching the man. He only managed to get a glimpse of the newcomer when the First Jeon started to speak.
“What took you so long?” Alastar Jeon questions the cloaked figure. Se Heon blinks twice to remind himself that he wasn’t there to gawk at the First Jeon. He then moves his gaze from the leader of the Jeon clan and towards the cloak figure in front of the man.
The figure bowed before replying to the First Jeon, “My apologies, I didn’t know that going to this kingdom can be troublesome.”
For some reason, Se Heon felt like he had already heard that voice before but he can’t pinpoint where and when.
The First Jeon clears his throat before asking, “What sort of trouble did you encounter while on your way here?”
The cloaked figure hums before answering the other party, “Oh there were different kinds of trouble. Savage beasts, Dendro users, and ah….men.”
“For god sake, please don’t elaborate to me how you lured those poor men.” The First Jeon says with a disgusted look.
The cloaked figure, who Se He realized was a woman, chuckles in a flirtatious tone, “Why Alastar? Are you jealous?”
The First Jeon only gave the woman a blank look, “Enough games, Go Eun. You know why I have called you here.”
“Ah, your absolute lack of interest in me is what makes me so curious about you.” The cloaked figure, Go Eun, says with a disappointed but playful tone. “Very well. I know you are far more hungry for power than for women, so here.”
The woman held out her palms and seconds later a bright light came out from her own hands and in a blink of an eye, a golden scroll was now sitting on top of the woman’s open palms. “As you have requested.”
“Is this the true copy?” The First Jeon asks while slowly getting the scroll from the woman’s hands.
Go Eun chuckles again, that same flirtatious and playful tone of hers that reminds Se Heon of a certain person. “Yes. The one and only. May I ask when you will decide to use it?”
The First Jeon didn’t even check the contents of the scroll before he immediately put it safely inside his robe. “None of your business.”
“What a bummer.” The woman says while crossing her arms at the other party.
“When will you leave?” The First Jeon asks while giving the lady a serious gaze.
The woman lets out an audible gasp, “I just got here and you’re making me leave already? You should be thankful that I managed to go all the way from Bren just to give you that damn scroll. I also followed your instructions not to use my teleportation magic so I wouldn’t draw the attention of the ancient ones as well as the other eight leaders. You should at least thank me for all the effort I made.”
The First Jeon rolled his eyes at the woman. “Fine. Thank you. Now, when will you leave?”
Se Heon thought the woman would still pressure the other party for making her do so much work but instead she laughs and answers the First Jeon using her usual tone, “I plan to stay here for the next couple of days. I want to explore your kingdom as well as learn more about it.”
Se Heon takes note of how she said the words ‘your kingdom’ as if she was from another kingdom.
“Very well. I hope you have a wonderful time here. Just don’t cause any trouble, okay?” The First Jeon asks in a warning voice.
“I can’t promise you that..” The woman says while laughing the moment the First Jeon gives her a cold glare.
