The Unsurpassed Maiden - Chapter 175
“Heroic. But classic.” Hae Choon comments while giving Mi Young a playful wink.
Mi Young rolls her eyes at the other party. “What can I say? I work well with a team.”
With this, Hae Choon hummed. “That’s not a bad answer. However, I might need to remind you that protection is not enough.”
“Why?”
Hae Choon smiled softly at the girl. “Your reason…is not valuable enough.”
“Not valuable enough? Protecting your friends is not enough?” Mi Young asks, confused. How is protecting those who you cherish not important?
“I’m not saying that protecting your loved ones is not enough reason. But for this curse, you will have to have other reasons. Something more….you.” Hae Choon replies. However, Mi Young noticed how the other party emphasized the last word which made her think of something.
“So you mean to say the curse can only come to those who badly need it?”
“Not needed. Want.” Hae Choon corrects. “This curse can only be activated by those who want it.”
Mi Young stays silent for a second, not knowing what to say. But then a thought flashed in her mind which made her look up to Hae Choon with curiosity. “”What made the curse come to you then?”
Hae Choon looks taken aback at her question. Clearly, the other hadn’t expected it to come from her mouth. The man sighs before finally responding to the black haired girl’s question, “Greed. That’s what it feeds from me. You see, this curse right here is like a living curse. Aside from the fact that you will have to suffer with the pain of the dark witch, you will also have to feed it something for it to live with you. And I feed it with my greed.”
“Why greed?”
“It needs a negative emotion, particularly the seven deadly sins, so it can continue to bring you power.” Hae Choon explains. “So are you still in?”
Mi Young thinks for a while, there are far too many conditions just to have that spell and it’s not even sure if it would work on her the first try. She badly needs it right now for the reason that she wants to become powerful because they’re going to face a war soon.
“It’s okay, you can think of it first before—”
“I want to try it.” Mi Young says with a determined look. “And even if you said that my reason is not enough, I still want to try it.”
Hae Choon studies the black haired girl for a moment before sighing and telling her with deep seriousness, “This isn’t an easy thing. I know I have said this before but are you really sure? This is not some kind of blessing, this is a curse. And curses are never good.”
The young student rolls her eyes at Hae Choon’s words. “I know what a curse is, idiot. And as I have said, I am more than willing to accept it.”
“Whatever it takes?”
“Whatever it takes.” Mi Young answers. The determination in her eyes made Hae Choon wonder what drove her to do so much for her friends.
“Fine.” Hae Choon says. “I will give you the song first. You shall sing it and after you finish say the incantation while opening your mind.”
“Okay.” Mi Young answers with a nod.
Hae Choon clears his throat before he says the lyrics of the song with Mi Young following his lead. It wasn’t that long and the song finally came to an end and for some reason, the black haired girl knew the melody of the song pretty well like it wasn’t her first time hearing it. Hae Choon must have noticed it as well because he stops for a while and gives the black haired girl a confused look before he finishes uttering the lyrics of the song.
“Now, say this incantation…” Hae Choon instructs while he utters the words to activate the spell.
Mi Young had just completed the incantation when a sudden blast separates the two of them.
“What the f*ck was that?!” Mi Young hearts Hae Choon shout from the other side of the room. He coughs out some dust before he and Mi Young stood up from their spot where they blasted off when the impact happened. “The hell is that?”
The black haired student looked at the other party with a confused expression at first. But when she noticed that Have Choon’s eyes were fixed on something on the floor, she followed his gaze as well.
“T-That’s….” Mi Young was out of words as she saw a savage beast lying dead in front of them. The beast came from the top of the ceiling which created a huge hall on the building.
Both Hae Choon and Mi Young look up and see the dark clouds of the sky above them. “There’s something there…”
Mi Young confirmed what the other party said when she noticed that up ahead of them was something moving. “It looks like it’s coming towards…us. Sh*t! Duck!”
The moment the two parties duck down, a huge winged beast flies through the hole that was caused by the dead savage beast and snatched away its body. It even roared the moment its claws took away the dead beast.
Mi Young and Hae Choon instantly stood up when the beast went flying towards the dark sky once more, as if it’s only mission was to get the beast’s body out of there. “Where do you think it came from?”
“What? The winged beast? Of course from the sky.” Hae Choon replies while rolling his eyes at Mi Young.
“No. The other beast. It looked like it was fighting off something at first before it landed here.” Mi Young says while looking from the hole on the ceiling and down to the spot where the dead beast was lying earlier. “Or something threw it on us?”
“What kind of creature can throw a savage beast as big as that?” Hae Choon asks.
“I don’t know but I’m sure as hell it’s not really friendly.” Mi Young replies.
Hae Choon looks at her with furrowed eyebrows, “What do you mean?”
“I read lots of books before about savage beasts. And as far as I can remember, that savage beast that created this hole was a non-Magic type of beast.” Mi Young starts to explain but Hae Choon cuts her off all of a sudden.
“Wait, Wait. What do you mean non-Magic? You mean this beast targets those people with no mana aura?”
“Only targets those people. Yes.” Mi Young added. Then, she starts pacing back and forth making the other party dizzy with her movements. “If that was indeed a non-Magic type of beast then why did it crash on top of us? Plus, it doesn’t have any wings and there are no other buildings close to this tower that are bigger than this. So it’s definitely impossible to throw a beast that huge towards our ceiling.”
“What are you talking about, girl?” Hae Choon asks. “And can you please stop moving too fast? I’m getting dizzy just by watching you.”
However, that didn’t stop the black haired girl from pacing back and forth in front of Hae Choon. “No, but it can also be that another beast, specifically a winged beast, was fighting with it and it accidentally threw the beast on top of our ceiling.”
“But why retrieve it?” Hae Choon asks.
Mi Young shrugs. “Maybe it’s not done yet.”
“That’s stupid.” Hae Choon says. “I may not know a lot about savage beasts but once they knew that the enemy had been defeated, they would immediately stop pursuing it. But if this one, as like you said, was its enemy, why would it retrieve it, right?”
“You’re right.” Mi Young says while nodding. Then she starts to slow down her pace before she starts thinking again. “But out of all the buildings here, why would they drop on us? I mean, it might be a coincidence but I can’t let it go just like that.”
“Maybe someone dropped it for us for a reason?” Hae Choon suggested.
“Could be.” Mi Young shrugs. Then, she moves her gaze back towards the spot where the savage beast was lying earlier. “It’s just weird because those creatures are gentle. Most of the historians before who study them always say that these types of savage beasts are only out just to eat and hunt for food.”
Hae Choon was about to say something when a loud crash once again appeared just a few feet away from them. When they went to check what it was, their eyes widened and got even more confused as to why there was another savage beast crashing from the sky and down to the building where they were.
Just then, it happened again. And again.
Until a total of thirteen savage beasts were not lying dead on every spot of the floor where they both were standing.
“What do we do now?”
“Some lunatic is up there throwing dead beasts on us. What else should we do than check it and see who was making us play hide and seek here?”
