The Vampire’s Love for Mankind - Chapter 31
I held back the rage that was about to burst out of my chest, took a deep breath, and told myself to calm down.
The next second, I rolled up my sleeves and took out a mop and a rag to clean the ground.
But the mattress was the tricky part. I was sure that with Adeline’s temper, she would never let anyone get me a new one.
Calmly, I tried to think of a solution. Soon, I thought of an abandoned dryer in the utility room.
It’s just that the circuits are old and broken. I checked them out of interest before. They can actually be repaired, but Noble and the others didn’t bother to repair such broken, old things.
However, this happened to be my forte. Grandpa had taught me some repairing knowledge.. As long as the structure of the furniture was not too complicated, I could fix it.
At the thought of this, I put down my bag and ran towards the utility room.
It took me a lot of effort to move the dryer back to my room. I found the old circuitry and connected it to other abandoned furniture.
While I was busy, the servant came back with the leftovers. Seeing that I was repairing the dryer, he couldn’t help but mock, “I didn’t know that you were so capable. You even know how to repair electrical appliances. As expected of the farm owner’s granddaughter.”
I ignored her and focused on what I was doing.
The servant was asking for a rebuff. She placed the rotten food on the table and snorted. “This is your food today. Eat it if you want. Nobody would care even if you starve to death.”
I still didn’t say a word as I finally connected the wires completely. I wiped the sweat from my forehead and realized how dirty I was now. It was awful.
The servant probably finally realized that I wouldn’t pay her any attention, so she turned around and muttered curses as she walked down the stairs. After she left, I casually closed and locked the door in case anyone else came in.
Then I turned on the dryer and put the bedding in. Fortunately, the blanket was thin during the summer, so it shouldn’t take too long to dry.
Listening to the sound of the dryer working, I felt a little more relaxed.
Just as I managed to catch my breath, a soft laugh caught my attention.
There’s no one else in the attic except me. How could there be someone laughing?
I looked around but still couldn’t see anyone.
However, I heard a familiar male voice from above. “Idiot, look up.”
I looked up in surprise. Ansir was sitting on the edge of the skylight, smiling at me with interest.
“Why do you look so pathetic every time I see you?” Ansir’s eyes narrowed slightly as he shook his head with a sigh. His long legs were casually crossed as he swayed gently. He placed his hands on the edge of the window and looked down at me. He seemed to be in a good mood.
It seemed that he had been there for quite some time. He must have been enjoying my busy and disheveled appearance.
I looked at him in shock. “Why are you here?!”
Ansir shrugged and said indifferently, “I wanted to come, so I did.”
All of a sudden, an ominous feeling rose in my heart. I hastily put down the blanket in my hand and dragged the tall chair beside me to stand up. I wanted to close the skylight.
However, Ansir was faster than me. After seeing through my intentions, he used his arms to support himself and jumped down from the window.
Seeing that he was about to pounce on me, I subconsciously took a step back in fright. However, I missed my footing and was about to fall off the high chair. Anseir reached out in time to wrap his arms around my waist, pulling me into his embrace and tumbling to the ground with me.
The shock Ansir had brought me made my heart pound.
After landing safely, I instantly felt like I had just survived a calamity. I stayed in Ansir’s embrace for a while before regaining my composure.
I looked up at Ansir with an angry gaze. “What exactly did you come to my house for?”
Instead of answering, Ansir glanced around and asked me another question. “Is this really your home?”
“This has nothing to do with you.” I resisted, pushing him away.
However, Ansir raised his brows slightly, and his gaze froze slightly. “They let you stay in the attic. The bedding has already been soaked to this extent, yet no one is helping you clean it up. The food sent by the servants looks like it’s fed to dogs. Are you really mistreated like this in your own home?”
“It’s none of your business.” I didn’t want to respond to his question. I pressed my arm against his chest, trying to get out of his embrace and stand.
But I didn’t succeed. Instead, Ansir hugged me even tighter.
Ansir hugged me tighter and tighter, his gem-like eyes staring unblinkingly at me. His gaze grew hotter, and his voice was low and seductive. “At this moment, I suddenly remembered something.”
He lowered his head slightly, letting his warm breath pour over my face. The moment he opened his mouth, it was almost as if his breath was intertwined with mine.
The wicked smile that spread from the corner of his mouth was so beautiful and eye-catching, yet it also made people feel dangerous.
He leaned over and whispered in my ear, “Cecily, I kind of miss kissing you.”
