The Villainess Wants To Be A Sidekick - Chapter 5
Chapter 5: Dreams Are My Reality
Velkina, who was still ruminating on the talk she just had with Senephin, hesitated in response to Lumins’ advice. She struggled to organize her thoughts and feelings into coherent words.
“I want to talk to her more,” Velkina pouted. “I think she is actually a good person…”
She took a moment to ponder the situation further before clapping her hands together in realization.
“Ah, you know, it’s like the feeling of meeting someone who might be close to you in the future? I believe that Miss Senephin will be a good friend, like how I felt when I first met Lumins.”
Velkina freely voiced her thoughts aloud with an eager face, but Lumins only stared at her without answering her. She looked curiously at his quiet reaction and shrugged.
“Well, if she has already gone back first, then I’ll talk to her tomorrow. Goodnight, Lumins!”
“Yes, goodnight…”
Lumins watched as Velkina ran back towards the research institute, and for a moment his eyes narrowed as if he were deep in thought. A low murmur escaped from his lips.
“No, this can’t be.”
His cold whisper was blown away by the wind.
***
I wasn’t sure whether my intuition was from my being in a dream or from repeatedly playing the game many times over before. Senephin’s memories and knowledge of this world came naturally to me. Without having to rely on Lumins to escort me, I knew exactly where to find Senephin’s room.
After safely entering her chambers, I closed the door behind me and took a deep breath. I clenched and unclenched my hands to shake off the tension I had felt.
“… Haah, dreams are the best~”
Lumins had stood in front of me, yet I wasn’t able to make a proper face in front of him. Aside from that, I was still proud of myself. Just from the fact that I had entered this dream without once saying something like “Our Lumins smells good” was worth praising.
I lay down on my soft bed without bothering to wash myself first and took out my watch. The clock face read past 9 PM. It was still too early to fall asleep, but I figured it was okay since this was a dream anyway, so I didn’t need to follow the normal rules of my routine. Content with my decision, I crawled under the blanket and buried my face into the pillow. Lumins’ image was still vivid in my mind. Secretly, I hoped that this dream of mine would continue to remain even after I woke up.
Tomorrow, I was going to finish playing the ending for the main lead, and then I will replay Lumins’ route only to realize that… my wish was pointless in the end. With a sigh, I closed my eyes and allowed sleep to take me.
The next day, as soon as I woke up, I noticed something was very off. I went to the basin and washed my face many times, only to find out that I hadn’t yet awakened from my dream.
No, to be honest, I might have already had a hunch yesterday that I wasn’t really dreaming. I actually entered the body of a character in this world. This kind of thing only happens to novel characters or characters in some video game routes, not to a real person. This is… nonsense…
“It’s not a dream…”
I pinched my cheeks and found that it hurt. The pain told me that this was real and that I was really inside the body of Senephin Cromwell.
The reflection in the mirror also showed me Senephin’s appearance instead of my usual one. I gazed at the person in the looking glass before me. The lady standing in front of me was staring angrily back at me, with brown hair and equally brown eyes.
“I didn’t know she came out like this. As an extra character, she really gives off a bad impression.”
I forced myself to open my eyes wide and smile, but instead of looking like a good person, I resembled someone with a vicious smile trying to intimidate their rival.
“My looks are somewhat… okay, as expected. Is this happening because of yesterday’s wish?”
When the god had asked me my wish, I didn’t know what else to say. Instead of choosing from the choices I was given in-game, I had said, “Save my Lumins! Make my Lumins happy!” I didn’t know that the wish I just made in the moment would come true like this. The bigger problem, however, was now that I was in this world, I couldn’t guarantee that my presence would help Lumins survive and live happily until the end.
From what I confirmed yesterday, I reminded myself that I was in the very beginning part of the game. Lumins appeared relatively early on in the game’s timeline because he was Velkina’s very first male friend, except for the mysterious man named Alf who had scouted Velkina to enter the Magic Research Institute. Besides him and Lumins, all the major characters in this game had yet to appear.
But no matter how the plot would develop from here to the second half of the story, I was already elated that I had been given the opportunity to be greeted by Lumins and even talk to him alone. Going forward, I had no regrets. It would have been better if I could shake hands with him, too, but that would be too much.
Yet, even though I was here, Lumins… Would Lumins, whose death flags were everywhere, be saved?
“Our Lumins is a sunfish1.”
If Velkina’s heart went to another man, that meant Lumins’ life would be in danger.
My heart began to pound loudly, and all I could think about was hearing his sweet voice greeting me and talking to me alone yesterday. The Lumins I saw yesterday could die.
“No, I have to prevent that…”
Out of all the routes and endings available in the game, the only time he didn’t die was during “Lumins’ Route.” In other words, the only ending where he survived was when he became one with the female lead. That was the only way.
To save Lumins, I have to make sure he gets together with Velkina! And I have to stop any and all chances of Velkina getting together with the other male leads!
God had said my wish was heard.
If I came to this world according to my wish, then wasn’t this my calling to ensure that my favourite character gets a happy future?!
“Wait, the day after the female lead meets with Senephin is… aack!”
I looked up as I tried to remember the details. If it’s according to the game plot, then today was the day when Velkina and one of the target characters, who was known as a “wolf”, would meet.
