The Villainess’s Revenge - Chapter 319
One thing was for sure though, Lady Melissa wasn’t going to say ‘yes’ to Duke Gaston’s attempts at courting her, it wasn’t a problem that he had, it was her, she had too many things to deal with, and she didn’t want to drag him into her world of problems.
Lady Melissa was going to reject him the next time she saw him, what was the wait right? It wasn’t that important for her to send him a letter about her rejecting him, he could always wait to hear the bad news.
Lady Melissa felt guilty since she was going to reject Duke Gaston, yet the man had already spent so much money on trying to court her, the flowers alone must’ve cost at least 1000 gold coins.
In addition to that, there were ten very heavy pieces of jewellery, five of them were emerald, and the other 3 were gold, the last 2 being silver, and the Mieth’s family heirloom that was given to her.
If she was keeping all of that, and rejecting Duke Gaston, she was going to feel horrible, but then again, it was his choice, Duke Gaston had made the decision to spend his money on buying her gifts, and no matter how guilty she felt it wasn’t any of her faults.
Duke Gaston had decided to buy her gifts willingly, just because he wanted to and for no other particular reason, why was there even a need for her to feel bad about it? It was his money and he had the freedom to choose whatever he wanted to spend it on- and this time he just wanted to spend it on buying her gifts.
Lady Melissa made sure to store the Mieth’s family heirloom somewhere safe, she’d wear it occasionally, only because she felt that it would be a waste for her not to wear it at least once, plus Duke Gaston had given the ring to her for her to wear it and show it to the entire world, not for her to just keep it in some sort of cabinet or closet which was hidden from the entire world.
Lady Melissa, although she felt like she was in a dilemma what to do with all the jewellery that was given to her, she decided that it’d be best if she’d put it in her room, knowing that the Mieth’s family ring alone was probably more expensive than everything he had given her- which meant that it was probably more expensive than all the jewellery she had right now combined.
Lady Melissa was probably going to ask the gardener to plant the roses later on, in an attempt for them not to die (even though she very much believed that they were going to die in the span of a few days or weeks at most).
The maids helped bring Lady Melissa’s newly acquired jewellery upstairs to her room, as they put it on her desk as Lady Melissa could hear them whispering to each other the moment they had left her room.
Lady Melissa’s name as well as Duke Gaston’s was probably going to be on the front page of gossip articles by tomorrow at the latest, though realistically speaking, their names were probably going to be there in a couple of hours give or take.
Lady Melissa put her jewellery in a safe, which although might’ve been a bit overdramatic of her to do so, she cared about the jewellery- especially about the ones that Duke Gaston had given to her.
She cared more about the jewellery that Duke Gaston had given to her rather than the ones that her parents had given to her, perhaps it was because she held different regards for them, she cared about Duke Gaston, genuinely cared about him.
So much so that she was afraid of what could happen if she went into a relationship with him, she didn’t want him to deal with any of her problems- not when he had already dealt with a lot of her problems with her.
Not when he had made her his first choice, instead of leaving her in the dust like everyone else, and that was why she decided that she was going to push him away, just like how she would always do to everyone else.
Lady Melissa didn’t want to hurt anybody, she didn’t want to get hurt nor did she want anyone to get hurt, yet she knew better than this, if she dated Duke Gaston god knows what could happen, what he’d have to go through.
Lady Melissa had lived life once before, and although she didn’t live it the best, she lived before, but what about Duke Gaston? He was different, if he died he wasn’t gonna get another chance at life.
If he died, it would be permanently his death, sure there was always a chance that he might get reincarnated- but Lady Melissa wasn’t ready to deal with the slim possibilities of his reincarnation.
In addition to that, even if Duke Gaston had somehow gotten reincarnated, Lady Melissa wouldn’t be with him, just like her current life faith would take control, it would take control of everything and change events even if it was because of a slight change in things.
Lady Melissa wouldn’t be able to live with herself if Duke Gaston would ever die because of her, she had already gone through it multiple times in her first life, knowing better than anyone the pain and guilt she’d have to deal with.
Even now, Lady Melissa still felt like she had blood on her hands- that the reason why Sophia had died was because of her, everything that went horribly wrong could’ve been prevented if she just wasn’t so aloof.
If she had just paid attention to what the Crown Prince was doing, perhaps she wouldn’t be here right now, perhaps she’d be having her own happy ending in her original life, a happy one with Duke Gaston, it was a pity that reality wasn’t so kind to give her that.
