Chapter 17: Chapter 16 – Superior Goblin
In the midst of his desperation, Kaito’s hands quickly slid down his attribute window, and in a single second, he clicked as fast as he could to spend all ten points he received for a random attribute, thus increasing it.
He didn’t have time to choose or think about it, and theoretically, there wasn’t a bad option, everything would help him against the superior goblin.
And it didn’t take more than a few moments for Kaito to notice the difference in his physical abilities.
‘My body is… much lighter!’ He thought as he stands on his head and gets up with an agile twist of his body.
The hood of his jacket covers his head during this movement and Kaito smiles involuntarily. His eyes turn to the left for a second and he sees that he has increased his Agility attribute from 10 to 20 points.
“That explains a lot… Oops!!!” He says, seeing a punch coming toward his face. ‘Now that I’ve been given a second chance, I’m definitely not going to die!’
With the sudden improvement in his agility, Kaito reacts surprisingly quickly to the upper goblin’s blow. He spins the Southern Dagger in his right hand as he leaps over the enemy, leaving him momentarily disoriented. Seizing the advantage, Kaito delivers a mid-air blow to the back of the upper goblin’s head.
The southern dagger slices through the air with a faint sound, and suddenly blood spurts from the cut. The upper goblin quickly puts his hand to the back of his head, feeling the shallow blow and grunting slightly in pain.
Kaito raises his eyebrows in surprise, then closes his eyes. ‘I just developed my agility, so as I imagined, my strength remains the same. He’s still stronger and tougher than me.’ He thinks.
The top goblin suddenly smiles, showing off his thick, bulky fangs as well as his confidence.
Despite feeling a chill, Kaito is not intimidated. He has nowhere to run if the path to his companions is right in front of him, and he knows he needs to take advantage of it while his enemy is underestimating him.
‘But how am I going to defeat this thing alone?’ he wonders, looking at the goblin that is easily almost two meters of pure muscle and savagery.
Since the monster doesn’t have the same concerns as Kaito about thinking of a plan, he moves forward without hesitation.
However, this time the awakened man decides to adopt a not-so-defensive stance and punches the goblin in the face with his left hand to surprise it. But instead of the blow shuddering the monster’s body, it shudders Kaito’s whole body, who feels the firmness of the monster’s skin and muscles. Maybe if a punch like this had hit an ordinary goblin it would be enough to knock it out, only of course this doesn’t work with a type of goblin that is on a higher level.
The upper goblin barely moves at Kaito’s punch, which makes him think:
‘It won’t work! You certainly can’t beat that!’
In the next second, Kaito is hit with a powerful punch that the moment it hits him in the stomach makes him spit up blood.
As the blow twists Kaito’s stomach, a series of flashbacks pass through his head, making him remember the old nights when he spent hours and hours farming experience and items by slaughtering villages and villages of superior goblins on floor eleven of the Mortal Tower.
These memories all coming to the surface right when he is being beaten by a superior goblin makes him instantly conclude that this is all a joke of fate.
To make him hope to live a different life and then end it all by dying to a weak creature he has killed hundreds of times before is cruel and sadistic on God’s part, to say the least.
The goblin’s blow throws him several meters forward, causing him to be dragged with his back on the floor of the brick corridor that was supposed to be his hope of finding his group mates.
Kaito knows that he could have run away, but he also feels that he needed to fight the Shaman Goblin and defeat him to change his life once and for all.
Fallen, Kaito tries to look down the sinister corridor and sees that at the end of this long path there is an intensely red light. He can hear the drumming for a second, only for the music to be quickly interrupted by heavy footsteps approaching him. At this moment Kaito’s eyes no longer harbor hope, they are almost empty. His eyelids are so, so heavy. He is tired, maybe it is time to rest…
However, just as Kaito is about to give up his new chance, everything goes silent and a distant voice resounds in his mind. It is the voice of his father.
“… No matter how hard it seems, you must find a way to overcome…”
Those words echo over and over again and his father’s face pops into his memory, as does his exhausted and sickly, but still gentle smile.
At the same time, Kaito is slowly lifted by the collar of his shirt by the top goblin, who is thirsty to kill him to the point that he is salivating.
The goblin prepares to throw a punch hard enough to break the boy’s skull into several pieces, but when the monster raises his left hand, the glow returns to Kaito’s eyes. Seeing Kaito’s eyes glowing, one in ruby red and the other in emerald green, the monster for some reason hesitates, either out of fear, uncertainty, or strangeness, and during this moment of hesitation, a sound of tearing flesh echoes loudly throughout the place. Then, from the corners of the upper goblin’s mouth begins to ooze blood, lots of blood.
The goblin looks down, feeling suddenly weak, and sees the Southern Dagger stuck in the left side of his chest. His heart has been broken in half by a surprise attack from Kaito.
This time it is the goblin’s eyes that go gray, and he falls on Kaito.
[You killed a Superior Goblin. You gained +1000 XP].
Kaito takes a few seconds to breathe, to rest, even as the stinking, heavy body of the superior goblin falls on him. Kaito is extremely tired both physically and psychologically, no wonder he has almost given up everything. However, he doesn’t have much time to rest either, so he soon stands up, extends his right palm towards the upper goblin and utters:
“Sell.”
