The Voyage In The Blizzard - Chapter 100
In moments of despair, in moments when every second brings pain, and every hour brings an even greater emptiness, and every day brings only an abyss in which all happy memories are stored, at such moments a person sees two ways in front of him. The first way is to forget about everything and move on. The second way is to remember everything but forget your own self. There is no third way, since there are only two choices in nature. But if a person is cunning and clever enough, he himself will invent a third way and will follow it. But those for whom life has become only an abyss, for such people there is no strength to create a third way.
In this case, in our case, a person can choose only one way. And as it is already clear, Lei chose the second way. From now on, he does not live, he exists in memories, he ignores reality and completely forgets himself.
In moments when a person no longer understands what is happening, oblivion comes to the rescue, which supposedly should eliminate the pain, but which only aggravates everything.
Oblivion, which enveloped Lei and Yun Qi from head to foot, is too strong for them to get out of it.
And here even human nature, which is always looking for hope, is no longer able to help.
Exactly one day has passed since Longwei’s death.
All day, all night, full of nothing but awful silence. Silence in which there was no sound. Silence in which even a quiet cry disappeared.
Sharing exactly one meter apart, they sat side by side to each other and none of them could start speaking first.
Everyone had frozen tears in their eyes, but no one dared to let out more tears, no one dared to show great weakness.
Not knowing, not noticing the environment, where they were, who was around them, the two of them sat together on a piece of a meteorite that flew in an unknown direction, which could crash into something and split into small pieces.
But still, at times, hearing distant voices that seemed to be the buzzing of the smallest mosquito, they still wanted to understand the words, but with the onset of Oblivion they literally forgot how to speak and listen.
Grief is paralyzing.
“Master Lei. Can you hear me?”
“Teacher Lei?”
Handing a glass of warm milk into his icy hand, Zihao wanted to hug him, but catching Lei’s glass gaze on him, he decided to stop at this note.
“Yun Qi, you need to eat.” whispered Xing Fu, covering her with the blanket Changchang had just brought.
“Yun Qi.” Baofeng-Xue said but there was no reaction.
Sitting surrounded by the people closest to them, they still could not find the strength in themselves and look into everyone’s eyes.
“Lei.” Delun wanted to say something, but Enlai stopped him.
Taking Yun Qi’s hand in his warm palm, Xing Fu lightly hugged her and she yielded to her feelings and lowered her head on his shoulder. That was her first move of the day.
While embracing her, Xing Fu watched the dance of fire flames that burned in the large fireplace.
“He said he would never leave me.” Yun Qi muttered for the first time. “He said so.”
“Yun Qi?”
“He told me that he would never leave me. He promised. He promised.”
Holding her close to him even tighter, Xing Fu caught his father’s gaze, which was full of tears.
Looking around the whole room in which there were all the warriors except the warriors of Sun, Xing Fu looked towards the window. The first rays of the morning stained green trees. Birdsong sounded everywhere. The silence was broken. The smell of rain mixed with sunbeams made everyone want to sleep.
Having met such a calm morning for the first time and knowing that today they would not have to go to training or war, realizing that they would no longer have to be afraid to die at any second, everyone in the room could not help but rejoice, but the grief was stronger than their fleeting joy.
Suddenly, getting to her feet, Yun Qi, looking straight ahead, quietly said, “He’s alive.”
Heading towards the door, she wanted to run out of the room, but the warriors of the First Clan blocked her way.
Approaching her, Baofeng-Xue said, “Outside, there is still chaos. You need to eat and rest.”
Trying to hold back her tears with all her might, Yun Qi said, “I need to find him.”
“Yun Qi.”
“Let me go!” she suddenly shouted so loudly that Changchang immediately came running.
Seeing her, Yun Qi still gave herself up to a moment of weakness and sank to her knees, crying quietly. Shaking her head at Baofeng-Xue Changchang said, “Come with me.”
After following her, Yun Qi could still be heard for a while, her quiet cry, moving away further and further completely disappeared into the singing of birds.
Sitting with their heads bowed, with severe wounds, the warriors of all two clans, and even those who once showed obvious hatred for Longwei, were grieving deeply.
Some were still lying unconscious and did not know what had happened.
Heavy air hung in the room, which deepened the severity of the loss.
Continuing to ignore the words spoken to him, Lei looked ahead, he looked but did not notice anything. And there was only one name in his head.
Rising to his feet, he suddenly straightened his shoulders and looked at his brother, who was standing next to him.
“Brother.”
Without saying anything, Lei rushed towards the door.
“Teacher Lei!”
In a hurry, striding towards the palace that shone as brightly as before, Lei had a fury burning in his heart. And even the swords that were now directed at him by the royal warriors could not stop him.
And even the arrows that were about to fly did not stop him either.
He didn’t care if he died or not. He didn’t care about anything anymore.
Without ceromony, entering the palace, he shouted loudly, “I made a wish. I threw it into a golden pond. I did everything! So why did my wish not come true? Why?”
Grabbing a chair and throwing it towards the garden, he brushed fruits and glasses of water from the table.
Having come running to what they heard, all the maids and some soldiers surrounded him from all sides.
“Li Hua! You said that the wish will come true! You said so!” he continued to scream and break everything in his path. The glass table that stood a minute ago in the very center of the hall was now shattered into millions of fragments. Grabbing this handful of fragments, he clenched them in a fist and then angrily threw them aside.
“You said that my wish would come true! It was all a lie! You lied! It’s a lie!”
Throwing another chair towards the empty throne, Lei falling into hysterics could still hear the voices of warriors.
“It was a lie! You lied! He died! He is dead now! He is dead! Dead!” Covering his face with his hands, he suddenly froze.
“Lei calm down. Lei.” his brother’s voice sounded.
Feeling his hand on him, Lei threw him over his shoulder without hesitation. Dewei, smoothly falling to the floor, quickly got to his feet and grabbed his brother by the shoulders.
“Don’t scare me. Brother, come to your senses! Lei look at me!”
“This whole kingdom is to blame! Because of your curse, he is gone!”
“Lei!”
“He is now gone and he will never come back!” Lei continued to scream until Nien pointed her sword at him.
“How dare you call her majesty a liar?!” she said. “It’s not a pity to kill you for these words.”
Opening his chest, Lei stood up straight and looked into her eyes calmly, “Then kill me.” Falling to his knees in front of her, he continued to say, “Kill me. Come on! What are you waiting for?”
“Brother!”
Pushing away Dewei’s hand, Lei moved closer to Nien and, grabbing the blade of her sword, directed it straight into the area of his heart. “Come on, kill me.”
And then, unable to endure this, Dewei sharply hit his face. Falling to the floor, he tasted blood in his mouth.
“Stop Lei! Enough already! What are you doing here! Don’t act like that! Enough!”
Lying on the floor, not feeling or hearing anything, Lei wished with all his heart that his soul would follow Longwei’s. But his desires, his requests remained only in his thoughts.
Rising to his feet, he looked around at everyone around him. Stopping his wandering gaze in the bright sun that burned all his wounds, he took a few steps towards the garden.
“Lei let us help.” someone’s voice sounded behind.
After standing in the center of attention for a while, he suddenly ran headlong into the garden and jumped over the wall.
Running with all his might ahead, Lei could see the destroyed lands in the distance through his bitter tears.
Emitting a heartbreaking cry from the depths of his soul, he ran faster and faster until the ground under his feet turned into cracks into which one could easily fall.
Stopping at the very edge of the ground that had split from the forest, he looked down.
The dark soil stretched right into the very depths of the dark bowels of the earth.
Taking a step forward, Lei said, “I want to be with you. How do you not understand this? What am I willing to do for you? I am ready for anything Longwei. I am willing to do everything for you. And if everything is not enough for you or my answer is too banal for you, then you accept it anyway. Because I’m really ready for anything for you. No. You are right, even the word “everything” is not enough. Without you I cannot be and you know it.”
Taking another step forward, he was already standing on the very edge of the cliff.
Moving his leg muscles one last time, Lei wanted to take one last step forward into the void, but Li Hua’s voice rang out so he stopped.
“Lei, if you jump now what will happen to Yun Qi?” Lu Hua suddenly asked. “You will die, you will fulfill your wish, but have you thought about Yun Qi? Of course she will live on. I will do everything to make her live happily. But do you think it will be the happiness she dreamed of? Do you think that you will not poison her life with this action?” Lei, if you take a step forward, Yun Qi will continue to feel like she is in that icy world. And no matter how good it is, she will never notice this good again. By depriving yourself of life, you deprive her of life. ”
“What do you know?”
“Lei, think about what I told you. Think about her.” said Li Hua.
Feeling weak all over his body, Lei fell to his knees and silent tears rolled down into the depths of the earth.
Hearing footsteps behind him, knowing whose they were, he slightly turned his head and saw Yun Qi.
She stood and looked at him with condemnation. But she did not dare to say what she was thinking. And instead she said, “You are my dad too.”
