The Voyage In The Blizzard - Chapter 36
Wrapping himself in a warm blanket and burying his nose in the soft pad, Longwei stretched and heard Lei’s voice next to him, “Wake up. It’s morning.”
Not understanding what was happening, he yawned lazily and covered his head with a blanket. Curled up, he said, “Give me some more sleep.”
“Get up now.” Lei’s voice already sounded like an order.
Grabbing the pillow, Longwei threw it at Lei with his eyes closed and angrily said, “Brother Xue, go away. Or I’ll hit you.”
“Who are you going to hit?! Get up!” Lei screamed and threw the pillow back at him.
Longwei, standing up with his eyes closed, grabbed the pillow and threw it back at Lei with all his might.. But then he felt a strong grip on his arm.
“Stop it!” he exclaimed and pulling Lei by the collar, threw him onto the bed. Wrapping his arms around his neck, Longwei still in a sleepy state said, “If you won’t stop now brother Xue…”
Lei grabbed both of his hands, lowered his head and said, “Longwei.”
Longwei, hearing this voice that did not belong to Brother Xue at all, opened his eyes and saw Lei’s face. Pushing him away from him, he quickly jumped up.
“How did I get here?” he asked with horror in the face.
Calmly sitting on the edge of the bed, Lei, pointing to the window, said, “There was a severe blizzard in the night. And you fell asleep right at the door. When I came to you, you were trembling all over. So I brought you here.”
Looking at the bed and then at Lei and then at himself, Longwei put on his waistcoat and silently moved towards the door.
“Don’t forget the books.” Lei said slightly smiling.
With the arrival of morning, the strongest snowstorm had already subsided, leaving behind a mess. Trees, branches and roof tiles lay everywhere making it difficult to walk.
Waking up early, all the soldiers began to clear the way.
Longwei, running out of the house with big strides walked as quickly as possible to his house.
Noticing him, Delun shouted, “Longwei, where were you all night?!”
Running past him, Longwei entered the house and locked the door. Throwing himself into his bed, he covered his head with a pillow.
“Longwei are you okay?” shouted Delun outside the door.
“You spent the night with the teacher, right?” suddenly a voice was heard from the corner of the room. Xiaoli, putting on his boots, gave him a suspicious look.
After putting himself and his expression in order, Longwei replied, “A severe blizzard started at night. Teacher allowed me to stay. You haven’t had breakfast yet? I’ll go. I’ll see you in the canteen.”
Avoiding the looks and questions, Longwei quickly finishing his fruit breakfast and his usual bean porridge ran out of the dining room without a word that morning.
“What’s the matter with him?” Baofeng-Xue asked in surprise.
“Xiaoli do you know what’s going on with him?” Eagle asked in a whisper, scratching his head.
“Of course not. How do I know. And in general, don’t meddle in your own business.” Xiaoli replied sharply.
Delun, “You’ve become so rude. Your sudden change in mood scares me.” Noticing someone’s gaze on himself he looked at the guy who was sitting in the end of the table and said, “Who are you looking at? Or the moment on the ice field wasn’t enough for you?”
“Are you telling me this?” started a guy with a wounded arm.
“And to whom else! You have been looking at me since the morning!” shouted Delun.
“Enough! Or Teacher Lei will punish us.” Baofeng-Xue gurgled.
Moving closer to the table, the guy named Ice bent his head and said as quietly as possible, “Have you noticed that teacher Lei has changed a lot?”
“What are you talking about?”
“I mean, remember, on the ice field, he said that he would punish those who show clumsiness and inability to fight. Well, we almost all just swam in the water, none of us, except Longwei and Baofeng-Xue, could stay on the ice for a minute. And after that, Master Lei didn’t say anything about the punishment. Although Master Boqin definitely insisted on it. ”
“What about the award?” someone asked.
“Well, the head of the clan himself rewarded Longwei and Yue-Liang. At Lei’s request, Xing Fu allowed them to skip training and go about their business for a whole month.”
“Really? I didn’t know!” Delun exclaimed loudly, but immediately received a slap on the head from Bao Fengxue.
Climbing on the table, a short guy named Enlai took almonds from a plate and began to chew it, “When we were on the ice field, I watched teacher Lei. And I must say that all this time his gaze was fixed on only one of us.” After pause, he glanced at everyone and then continued, “On Longwei.”
“Longwei?!”
“And why was he looking at him?” Bao Fengxue asked nervously, snatching the plate from him.
Enlai added, frowning, “Don’t you think that something is happening between Master Lei and Longwei.”
“The same as between Xiaoli and that soldier?!”
Filling the dining room with noise, the table by the window attracted the attention of others. In a low voice, Eagle said, “It can’t be. Our teacher Lei is not the kind of person who would waste time on such things.”
“Yeah, but have you noticed that Longwei and Master Lei always try to avoid each other’s gaze. And last night, where was Longwei? I checked his bed. It was empty.”
“And you think that something is happening between them?” Opening his mouth, Delun asked loudly.
“Quieter! What kind of voice do you have?!”
“A voice is like a voice. What can I do with it.”
Enlai bent his head even lower so that everyone could hear him whispering, “Observe them yourself and I am sure that you will notice something strange.”
And then there was a loud bang on the table. Bao Fengxue hit the table with his hand and jumped up, clenching his fist, said, “Stop talking nonsense.” Saying this he, with a quick steps went towards the door.
“Lately, things have gotten weird.” said Delun, looking at Brother Xue’s back.
