The Voyage In The Blizzard - Chapter 45
Having lost track of time Longwei waking up from a deep sleep at first, did not understand where he was. Stretching out his hand through the darkness, hoping to find Lei next to him, he quietly, in a slightly hoarse voice said, “Lei, you’re here.”
It was only after hearing the voice of Baofeng-Xue Longwei fully regained consciousness.
“Much to your dismay, it’s me. It’s just Baofeng-Xue.” his voice came from somewhere.
Leaning against the cold wall, Longwei loosened his hair and felt a slight pain in his neck. Feeling intense thirst, his lips dried out and his whole body shivered from the cold. Putting his arms around himself, he asked, “How much time has passed?”
To which Baofeng-Xue replied, “I don’t know.”
Remembering their conversation, Longwei suddenly felt an aching pain on his nose.. Feeling the taste of blood around his mouth, he got up and walked to the door. Pushing it several times, he kicked the door and behind, someone’s footsteps were heard. But these steps walked by.
“Hey you!” Longwei cried out loudly and immediately began to cough.
“Don’t shout like that. No one will listen to you anyway.”
Hiding his hands in his pockets, Longwei went to the table on which there was a candlestick. Through the darkness, some details of this golden candlestick could be seen. And this indicated that in this room there was still a gap from which a faint light came.
Finally, noticing Baofeng-Xue sitting in the corner, Longwei approached him and slightly pushed him aside and said, “Brother Xue, why did you follow us. What if something happens to you? After all, then it will be my fault. You didn’t have to go.”
With a smirk laughing, Baofeng-Xue trembled and dropped his head to his knees and said, “You are right, if something happens, you will be the cause. But the reason for my coming here is precisely to keep you safe so that nothing happens to you.”
“And when did you start caring about me so much?”
Listening to the silence, hoping to hear at least something, they sat with their heads bowed, motionless.
Thinking about Lei and what Sun wants from him, noticing the look with which he looked at him, knowing what nasty thoughts lurk in his head, Longwei felt nausea and pain in his chest. Punching the ground with his fist, he said through gritted teeth, “We need to tell Xing Fu everything. I won’t leave it all until everyone knows who Sun is.”
Without any emotion, Baofeng-Xue quietly said, “I don’t think you can act like a hero or a rebel right now. Even if you tell that Sun is keeping one of the beasts here and making some plans, then Sun will tell about you and Lei the whole truth. And if Xing Fu finds out about both of you then I think you know what will happen then. ”
“Lei is respected by everyone, his skill holds the entire clan so I don’t think Xing Fu wants his only best warrior to die in a fight with me. All he can do is send me away from the clan and do everything so that we won’t see each other anymore.”
“It’s good if it’s like this. Longwei, you don’t know Xing Fu at all, you may have seen him a couple of times as a child, but during this time he has changed a lot. If he was kinder before, now he is as cold as ice. To have feelings towards someone it is breaking the rules. For showing feelings, Xing Fu can sacrifice his best warrior. Rules are rules. And he is the Head of the clan. He must follow his own rules.”
Longwei sighed loudly, through nervous laughter he said, “If my father were alive, what would he think of me. Probably he would see me as a complete idiot.”
“That’s for sure.” Baofeng-Xue answered shortly. “And also, brother, Longwei, for those blows, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you. It’s because of my nerves. I just didn’t know how to keep you out of this.”
“And that’s why you hit me?!” Embracing his shoulders, Longwei saw his sad face and said, “No matter how much we fight, we will always return to our brotherly bonds. And no one will change that. This world is cold, so at least you can warm it up with your presence.”
With a grin, Baofeng-Xue pushed him away. “You’d better think about what you’re going to do next. Sun just won’t leave you two alone. He certainly won’t miss the moment of scandal or chaos.”
“During the whole time I’ve been here, I’ve learned one thing.” Longwei started, but he had no time to finish the sentence as soldiers rushed into the room.
Filling the darkness with the bright light of fire, several soldiers with mockery on their faces approached them and one of them said, “Still chatting.”
Longwei slowly got up and lazily replied, “At least we don’t chat when we are guarding our clan.”
Swinging his sword, the soldier in black clothes stopped at Longwei’s neck. “You sneaked into our clan and now you dare to speak.”
Taking his time to get up, Longwei straightened his crumpled clothes and then just casually said, “And all this is your merit. Where did your guards look as we slowly walked past your soldiers? I don’t think you are in a position to beat us right now. Think about yourself. Your intimidating teacher Dong won’t forget about it.”
After a silence, the soldiers looked at each other, and it was clear from them that Longwei’s words were true. And despite the desire to seem brave and strong, they still showed the absence of any skill in using a sword and a complete lack of courage.
Holding the sword at Longwei’s throat, the soldier still loudly said, “Who are you to tell us that! You are just a body. You are nothing. You should not look down on us. Even if you are the famous Longwei, what now? Ahead awaits you only the deadly combat. And guess with who? With your beloved Lei. ”
Clenching his fists, Longwei felt anger take over him completely, overshadowing all his thoughts.
“What are you looking at? Don’t want to hear the truth? Don’t want it to be true?”
Longwei, breathing heavily, was about to take a step forward, but Baofeng-Xue tightly squeezing his hand said, “Since you came here, then say what you need. There is no need to stand and chat. Or is that the only thing you are taught?”
“The head of the clan wants to see you two.” the soldier said muffledly with a slightly frightened look.
Squeezing Longwei’s hand with all his strength, Baofeng-Xue led him out of the small room.
Pushing hard so that they fell to the floor right in front of Sun, one of the soldiers solemnly announced, “Master, they are here.”
Sun waving casually, standing in one dressing gown and despite the cold, was barefoot, said, “Honestly, the soldiers in my clan are very stupid. I don’t hide it. And with every realization of this fact, I feel sad.”
Looking around, hoping to see Lei Longwei directly and sharply asked, “Where is Lei?”
Returning to his throne, Sun straightening the belt of his robe with a sly smile, as if specifically giving a hint of what happened, said, “Don’t worry about him. He’s in a very comfortable place now.”
Longwei, having freed his hand that Baofeng-Xue still held, with brisk steps, walked towards Sun and grabbing his collar, with all his might began to shake him. Almost lifting him with ease, Longwei, looking closely into his eyes, pronouncing each letter with utmost clarity, asked again, “I am asking where Lei is? Where is he?”
Looking at Sun’s features for the first time, Longwei found some similarity between him and the beast. The same greedy, cunning eyes, the same absence of any heart and soul, the seriousness of which was abruptly replaced by the desire to destroy.
Pulling his hair, Longwei did not take his eyes off him. Sun, not paying attention to the pain, continued to smile.
Managing to raise his hand and bring it to Longwei’s face, he said, “It’s not for nothing that Lei liked you. With your beauty.”
Shaking him like a rag, Longwei hit him in the face and he fell to the floor.
“Where is Lei?!” he screamed. “Where is he?! Answer me!” Kicking his throne, Longwei grabbed Sun again. “I ask you where is he?”
Laughing, Sun didn’t show that he was in pain and was able to say, “You really love him.” Pointing to the door, he continued, “You go and see where your Lei is. No one is holding you.”
Rushing to the exit, Longwei himself, not knowing where but somewhere, was running. A long corridor on the floor of which was laid a long dark green carpet absorbed the sounds of his rapid steps. Without noticing it himself, but as if sensing where to go, he headed to the very end of the corridor.
Stopping at the wooden door, his hand suddenly trembled. Stopping his hand at the doorknob, Longwei suddenly froze for a moment, but mustering his strength, he still opened the door.
Afraid to see what his imagination was showing him, he looked around and when his eyes rested on Lei, who was lying motionless on a large bed, covered with a blanket, with his eyes closed and with a stony expression on his face, Longwei felt weak all over his body.
Pain in the chest area prevented him from moving. All he could do was look at Lei. On his loose hair. On his tightly compressed lips.
Feeling someone’s hand on his shoulder and then hearing a voice that said, “I said that everything is fine with him.”
Longwei, unable to say or do anything, just sat down on his knees.
Sun approached Lei and looked at him closely and said, “Thank you Longwei. Thank you for bringing him to me. Remember I said that if I want anything, I will definitely get it.”
Returning to his senses, Longwei stood up and staggered from side to side, he felt hot tears streaming down his cheeks. Moving with his heavy legs at that time, Longwei approached the bed.
“What have you done to him?” he asked quietly.
To which Sun replied, “I think I should leave you alone. So you’ll be able to say goodbye.”
When Sun left Longwei’s room, afraid to open the blanket and see what he imagined, he pulled back the soft cover slightly. To his calmness and happiness, Lei lay in his clothes. Although despite the fact that he was not wearing his vest and cape.
Throwing the covers off him completely, Longwei noticed that something was wrong. There was no heavy belt on his pants and his shirt was unbuttoned halfway down.
Noticing that Lei slowly began to open his eyes, Longwei immediately pounced on him.
“What did you do? What did he make you do?”
As if waking up from a long sleep, Lei was unable to open his eyes fully and immediately felt a severe pain in his head. Falling back on the bed, at first he could not say anything. But after several attempts to recover, he said, “Longwei, everything is fine.”
“Fine? What did he do to you? Answer me!”
Lei’s face showed that it was difficult for him to speak. And Longwei did not know the reason for such exhaustion. Touching his forehead and feeling intense heat, he cried out, “You have a fever! Tell me what he did?”
Trying to sit up, Lei squeezed out a smile and replied, “Longwei, when you get home, behave naturally. And try not to make any noise. I’ll figure it out myself.”
“Will you figure out what? What are you talking about? Lei, what did Sun do? Why are you in this room? Is he …” When he stopped speaking, Longwei clenched his fists. “What did he do to you? What did you do to make him keep our secret? He was blackmailing you to tell about us? Am I right?”
Lei threw the blanket away and stood up and grabbed his vest and quickly put it on. Taking his time to answer, he looked at Longwei. As usual, there was nothing in his gaze that could be seen. Only cold-bloodedness mixed with a slight, almost imperceptible anxiety.
Then he quietly replied, “If you think about what he could do to me, then nothing like this happened. He does not need me for this.”
“What were you doing then? In his room! He threatened to tell everything about us, right? And that’s why you are here now, acting as if everything is fine. When we return to our clan, we will immediately go to Xing Fu. Let everyone know what Sun is doing. And what happens to us, that doesn’t bother me. I’m sure Xing Fu don’t want to lose a great warrior like you. You are all the First Clan has.”
“Longwei listen to me. When you return to the clan, you shouldn’t say anything. About what you heard. About the beast that’s here. Just be calm.”
“Lei, why are you talking as if you won’t come back with me. Lei …” Longwei jumped up and grabbed his hand and asked, “What’s your next plan?”
Lei shook his head calmly and said, “I cannot expose you to danger. I do not want you to meet your end in a fight with me.”
“So it means that he threatened you. And the fact that he is hiding a beast here means a trifle!” Longwei shouted loudly so Sun could hear him. Knowing that he was standing and listening to their conversation, Longwei looked towards the door and added, “I’m sure when everyone finds out what he is, no one will leave it just like that.”
Lei straightened his sword without changing his expression and said, “Calm down Longwei.”
“Calm down? Lei, don’t you see anything? This whole clan is full of cunning tricks! Didn’t you understand that Sun wants one thing, to understand the thoughts of these creatures and use them for their own purposes!”
Lei said nothing.
“And you want to be silent? What kind of warrior are you then?! Is your true face like that?” Longwei waved his hand and hit him in the face. But he didn’t even move. “Well, if you are such a coward, then I will not remain silent.” After saying this, Longwei turned away and wanted to leave, but Lei suddenly stopped him.
“You still don’t seem to understand what could happen to you if everyone finds out about your feelings. You don’t seem to understand what will happen to both of us if everyone knows about our feelings for each other. Longwei, this is serious. This is much more serious than a beast or Sun. Now, what happens is the play of the human ego. But what happens between us is unacceptable. And for this, we will have to meet each other on our last battlefield. Face to face. And this fight will lead to death. It will continue until death will not overtake both. Is this what you want? Die like this? Die just like that? Think about it.”
“Then you shouldn’t have opened your soul to me and I shouldn’t have perceived you as my soulmate.” Longwei said with a cold voice and left the room.
