The Voyage In The Blizzard - Chapter 64
“Where did you get the key?”
“When I came out of the Spherical Stone, I found it on the ground.”
Looking at the small silver key with the sun sign, Longwei snatched the book from Lei and said, “This is certainly strange. But now the main thing is to read this book.”
After inserting the key into the keyhole, Longwei looked at Lei.
“Now is not the time to look at each other. Dad. I want to see if the key fits.” said Yun Qi.
Lei blushed slightly and laughed..
Turning the key, Longwei suddenly heard a click and the next second the lock opened.
“It opened!” he exclaimed. “Well, the time has come, to change this world.” Taking a deep breath, Longwei, despite trembling in his hands, only wanted to open the book when screams were heard from outside. The screams got closer and closer until the door on the first floor opened.
“Longwei!” voices were heard.
“Hide the book.” ordered Lei standing up.
Longwei quickly wrapped the book in his scarf and tied it to Yun Qi’s waistcoat. “Take care of it. Make sure it doesn’t go missing. Don’t give it to anyone, and don’t take your coat off. Got it?”
Nodding her head, Yun Qi stood in front of Longwei with pride and said with courage, “Dad, I said I would protect you.”
Smiling, Longwei took her hand and before he could think, the warriors of the First Clan burst into the library.
“Longwei, are you still hiding?! Grab him!” ordered a warrior named Lan.
Before the crowd of warriors had time to approach Longwei, Yun Qi grabbed the knife that was lying on the floor and stood in front of him, and despite her age, aiming it forward, said, “Do not approach my dad.”
“And who is this? Youth, get away. Or are you so stupid that you don’t know fear?”
Unafraid, Yun Qi stepped forward, jumping up and suddenly plunging the knife into Lan’s leg.
The other, screaming in pain, was about to grab her, but Longwei hit him in the face and shouted, “Just try to touch him.”
“What a strange child. Well, so are you.” Pulling out the knife, Lan didn’t show that he was feeling painfull. He just turned away and waved his hand as an order.
Before grabbing Longwei, the men first took Yun Qi out of his hands and carried her away.
“Yun Qi! Where did you take him?” Longwei grabbed the sword and struck the first blow. Having injured one of the warriors he once trained, Longwei glared at everyone. “You know me. I can hurt you all with ease. So don’t play with me!”
“Longwei! Don’t pretend you’re the victim! We know that you killed Xing Fu. You and Sun, you have been preparing this plan for a long time. And now you are probably happy with yourself!”
“Do you really believe your fantasies?! I knew you were all dumb, but not that much!” waving away at everyone with his sword, Longwei slowly backed away.
“It was your long-term plan. Destroy all Lei’s pride and courage, kill Xing Fu. Completely destroy the entire great clan. Don’t pretend to be innocent. We know everything about you.”
“And what do you know about me? What?” rushing from side to side Longwei with his eyes looked for Lei, but he was nowhere to be found.
Throwing several leather-bound papers in front of him, Lan leaning on a chair said, “Then what is this?”
After reading the first lines of what was written, Longwei immediately understood what it was. Recalling Yue Liang’s words about Sun and his strange interest and research about his father and himself, Longwei threw the papers aside and said, “How easy it is to confuse you.”
“Don’t try to get away with words. Everything is obvious. Sun has been studying you for a long time. And in one of the papers he even wrote that he needs you to carry out his plan. How do you explain this?”
“I don’t know anything. I don’t know about any of Sun’s plans. And even more so, it was not me who killed Xing Fu!” trying to behave calmly, Longwei suddenly felt a strong weakness all over his body. Dizzy again, Longwei clutched at the table and began to slowly lose touch with reality.
“You ruined the whole clan. You started it all. Now, your path is open. You, together with Sun, will finally be able to take over all the Three Clans.” Lan added.
Gradually losing all his strength, Longwei, without noticing it, knelt down. Buzzing in the ears and sharp pain in his chest made him bend over. Raising his head, he saw many faces that merged into one. But then, seeing a familiar face in the crowd, he relaxed and fell to the floor.
“What are you doing?! Are you out of your mind?!” Ye Ying shouted in his menacing voice. Having neutralized several warriors at once with one blow, he approached Longwei and, having snatched out the sword from Lan, he said, “Just try to touch him.”
“And you are with him too?!” someone shouted and immediately received a blow from Ye Ying’s fist.
“Enough! All of you! Everyone to their homes!” Throwing Longwei on his shoulder, pushing everyone to the sides, Ye Ying cleared his way to the exit.
“Longwei wake up!”
“Longwei!”
Opening his eyes after another oblivion and loss of consciousness, Longwei quickly got up and immediately fell back. “Where is Yun Qi?”
“Don’t worry. Baofeng-Xue took him to school with the other children.” Lei answered.
“To school? He can’t be there. No. We need to take Yun Qi.” muttered Longwei, unable to get up. “Lei, you have to take him out of there. Nobody has to find out. Nobody …”
“You’re sick. And besides, I think it was a bad idea to return to the clan.” Lei said bitterly, wiping the sweat from Longwei’s forehead.
Noticing Ye Ying’s huge figure at the door of the room, Longwei asked, “Where am I?”
“In the Main House.”
Extinguishing the candle beside him with his fingers, in the half-darkness, he felt that the strange pain in his chest had passed. “Lately, I have something wrong with my health. Sometimes I feel like I’m dying.” he whispered in a semi-delirious state.
Lei, putting his hand on his heart, thinking, said, “You’re just tired.”
“I’m very tired. You just have no idea how.” Closing his eyes with his hand, he sighed heavily and began to cough again. “What will happen next. I am so afraid of my future. With the appearance of Yun Qi, I am even more afraid of everything. What will happen to him if there is no one around him. What will happen next.”
Covering him with a blanket, Lei lightly touching his hand with calm voice replied, “The unknown always scares. But I am with you. You have no need to be afraid.”
Not knowing whether his eyelids were heavy with the desire to sleep or whether he was losing consciousness again, Longwei, through a feeling of nausea, still got up and pointed to the iron basin. Lei, quickly bringing it to his mouth, pulled him close until he vomited for the third time.
“You need to sleep. Don’t think about anything. Everything will be okay. About Yun Qi, he is safe. The elders look after the children well. He is at school, so don’t worry.” Wiping his mouth with a wet towel, Lei whispered.
“Yun Qi keeps the book. We need to take him and the book as soon as possible.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll go to school soon. Now sleep.”
Seeing green fields covered with yellow flowers in front of his eyes, feeling the warm wind that, that gently enveloped his skin, seeing his father in front of him, his long hair gathered in a bun, his smile that could melt the ice in the distance, Longwei stretched out his hand forward.
“Dad. Is that you?”
Walking on the soft grass that tickled his bare feet, Longwei heard birdsong and saw fabulously beautiful horses running in the distance. “Where am I?”
“My son.” Fei Jian, standing by a tall tree with an outstretched hand on which a small green bird was sitting, said smilingly, “Take your time. Do not be afraid.”
“What are you talking about? Dad.” Trying to look at him through the bright sunrays, Longwei covered his eyes with his hand. “What kind of light is this?!”
“You are doing everything right. Do not back down. Go forward. Go boldly and only then will you find the life you want.” Fei Jian’s reply was heard.
“I’m tired. I’m so tired. Take me with you.”
Falling on the soft grass, Longwei, looking into his father’s bright eyes, suddenly felt like a child. Lightness, peace, happiness, all this warmed his soul.
“Father.” he whispered.
Turning over on his left side, Longwei suddenly fell from the bed and hit his head on the floor. “Ouch.” Resting his hands on Xing Fu’s soft carpet, he was finally able to get to his feet.
Buttoning his sweat-soaked shirt, Longwei headed for the door. Walking past the mirror, he shuddered and said, “Like a beast.”
Noticing the obvious changes in the room, namely that almost all of the things had been taken out and that the windows had been boarded, Longwei thought, “How soundly I slept.”
Leaving the room, looking around, he saw no one. Going down to the main hall, he shouted, “Ye Ying! Lei!”
Turning around and seeing the face of Baofeng-Xue, Longwei cried out in fright. “You scared me!”
Turning pale from what he saw, Baofeng-Xue moved away from him in horror, closed his mouth and tears covered his eyes.
“Brother Xue, what’s wrong with you? What’s wrong? Is there something with Yun Qi?” fully regaining his senses, Longwei asked. “Answer me!”
Suddenly, Baofeng-Xue sharply hugged him and said, “I thought you were dead. We all thought so.”
“Dead? What are you talking about?”
“I thought this was the end.” crying Baofeng-Xue tightly hugging him wiped the tears from his cheeks.
“What? Brother Xue, I was just sleeping. Well, for a whole day. But now I am okay. Brother Xue, let me go. I have to go. I’m certainly glad that you are so worried about me. Baofeng-Xue!” Pushing him away, Longwei asked, “What’s wrong with you?”
“Are you out of your mind?! How could you scare me like that! I thought you had died a long time ago! And you were just sleeping! How could you?!”
Baofeng-Xue grabbed his collar and pushed him to the column.
“What is it with you? During the day you suddenly lost your mind? Brother Xue! You are scaring me.”
“Longwei!” hitting him in the face, Baofeng-Xue lifted him slightly and threw him aside.
“Brother Xue, explain your behavior! What happened in one day? What made you like this?”
Wiping a tear from his eye, Baofeng-Xue cried out, “You were unconscious for two whole months! I thought you were going to die, I thought it was the end!”
“Two month?”
