The Voyage In The Blizzard - Chapter 66
Following Lei as he walked along familiar paths, Longwei immediately realized where he had settled while watching after Yun Qi. It was the small house of the old farmer who called himself Lei’s grandfather. And in spite of his dissatisfaction with everyone, he still allowed Lei to stay in his little farm. Following Lei, Longwei did not know what to think more about. There were millions of thoughts in his head and each of them was important. But deciding to concentrate on one thought, namely the book and how Lei found out about the uniqueness of his child.
“I live here. The place is quite cozy. Here, you can sleep well and calmly and get closer to nature.” Opening a small wooden door, Lei was the first to enter and said, “It’s a little messy here. I seldom sit at home. I mostly help the old man in his business and watch after your daughter.”
After closing the door, Longwei glanced around the small room and asked, “How did you know about Yun Qi? And what do you mean by daughter?”.
Sitting on a wooden chair, Lei lit two candles. Taking off his cloak, he took out a book from his inner waistcoat pocket and handed it to Longwei. “Read it and you will understand everything yourself.”
Quickly snatching the book out of his hands, Longwei did not pay attention to the fact that he sat right on the tail of the wolf, which was lying and dozing.
Opening the book and and from the very first words, his appearance was distorted in the strongest surprise.
He stopped and looked at Lei. “So this is how it was.”
“You keep reading.”
A handwritten book with slightly burnt yellow pages, contained all the reasons why this world was immersed in a fierce cold and why a curse hung over everyone for several centuries.
Completely absorbed in the book, Longwei did not notice that he had already read each page several times over and over again.
After giving him silence and deciding not to disturb him with his presence, Lei quietly left the house.
Seeing several red eyes in the distant forest at the top of the hill, he said to himself, “Soon you will all disappear.”
While on the quiet side of the village where young future warriors were sleeping peacefully, a windy night was walking, on the other side of the Three Mountains, in a deep forest, a bloody battle took place.
Delun with the rest of the warriors, rushing into battle against the beasts, despite being seriously wounded, continued to fight.
In the cranial darkness, where the only source of light were red eyes, the warriors of the two clans, joining forces, defended their right to live in this world.
Having already destroyed several creatures, Delun, knowing that he could not continue hiding behind of a thick tree, whispered, “I can’t bear it anymore.”
Eagle, bending down, held his breath and suddenly the body of one of the soldiers of the Third Clan fell from above.
Without moving while sitting on the ground, Delun, clutching the wound on his chest, slightly raised his head and saw two long hands in the claws of which there was another victim. Dragging the man behind him, the beast breathing loudly, looked around. The intense stench emanating from this bloody fangs and fur caused a feeling of nausea.
Eagle, holding the knife, watched as it moved in an incomprehensible direction. And when it stopped and bent over to kill his victim, Eagle abruptly threw a knife and hitting it right in the heart through the back said, “How disgusting.”
“At least we don’t have to fight on the battlefield. There surely we wouldn’t be alive. Here, at least you can hide and take advantage of the stupidity of these creatures.”
“Help me. We need to clear this place tonight.”
“Where are the others?” asked Delun, writhing in chest pain.
“Ice and Enlai, I think they went to that part of the forest. But the others, they are already dead.”
“Watch out!” Pushing Delun aside, Eagle, trying to throw off the beast that had grabbed onto him, stabbed it several times with a knife. The creature, not going to give up, wrapped its long arms around his neck, opened its mouth wide and sank sharp fangs into his shoulder.
Jumping up, Delun wanted to rush to help, but due to blood loss, he was completely weak. “Hey you! Come to me!” he shouted, waving his bloody scarf. “Come here.”
Grabbing it by the elongated and curved muzzle, Eagle slammed it hard against the tree. Feeling that the monster had loosened its grip, he wanted to seize the moment and thrust the sword straight into his heart, but feeling something near his heart, he turned his head to Delun and said, “It seems that today we will not be able to play cards.” Falling to the ground, completely dead, Eagle let out his last breath with a frozen smile on his face and a second later, his animated eyes turned to ice.
“No! Eagle!” yelled Delun. “Eagle! Come on to me! Or are you afraid? Why are you standing and looking!” Getting on all fours, Delun, imitating a beast, growled loudly until his voice broke off with a dry cough.
Through the blizzard, seeing Eagle lying motionless, Delun relaxed and closed his eyes. “I will come to you soon, my friend.” he whispered. Hearing the snow crunching under the vile hooves of the beast, Delun knew that it was approaching him. Feeling that it was not one, that there were several more behind him, he straightened his shoulders and raised his head up. The frozen tears stung unpleasantly against his skin.
Accepting his fate as it is, Delun at the last moment realized one truth. But he did not have time to realize all this truth when suddenly, like the wind, someone jumping over him, thrust his sword into the chest of the beast. Then, with just one arrow, he destroyed several creatures at once.
“Are you okay?” asked a melodic voice.
“For some reason, I knew that you were coming. But it was not worth saving me.”
“I didn’t save you, but myself. From a pang of conscience.” answered the warrior in silver armor and with a bow on his back.
Opening his eyes, Delun looked at Zihao, the clan’s new teacher, and then said bitterly, “I’m so tired.”
Since the very day when Sun was back with his disgusting army of monsters, since then the Three mountains were sinking in the cruel hands of the war.
Every day, hearing the screams and loud cries of the warriors, Lei swore to himself that he must end everything. With a plan, keeping it in his brain like the apple of his eye, day after day he begged himself to endure Sun’s antics a little longer, until the right time came.
As Lei watched as the night sky slowly stretched over the pale gray morning dawn, Lei heard Longwei close the book.
Looking at him through the crack, he said, “Have you read everything?”
Clutching the spine of the book, Longwei gazed blankly at the dying candle flame.
Once inside, Lei sat down opposite Longwei and touched his knees slightly. “Are you okay?”
“So this is how it was.” whispered Longwei as if afraid to be heard.
“Now you finally know that your child is not strange and you know that Yun Qi is a girl. The representative of the gender that is now outside the walls of this world. Now you know that Yun Qi appeared in this world in order to remove the curse and unite the two worlds.”
Turning his gaze to Lei, Longwei touched his hand and said, “I have read this legend several times. Lei, is there really such a simple thing behind all this?”
“At first, when I read this legend, I did not believe it either, but after rereading it, I realized that this is not just a fairy tale from another book. I realized that this is the true story of our world and this curse.”
“It’s all true. True.” Jumping up, Longwei, who had attained enlightenment, looked at everything from a different angle.
“But for now we shouldn’t be happy that now we know what to do. Longwei, first we need to think over a plan of our path. After all, this book does not include a map. And we do not know where to go to find the boundaries of the two worlds. We need to think carefully about everything.” Lei said.
“Yun Qi, she can’t stay here. What if Sun already knows about her existence. He certainly won’t let this curse be lifted. And if he finds out about her, he won’t hesitate. You know what he will do.”
“If we hurry and leave the clan now, it will be suspicious. We have to wait. Just trust me.” Lei said with tenderness in his eyes.
