The Voyage In The Blizzard - Chapter 73
“Yun Qi! Yun Qi!”
“Dad!”
“Can you see Lei?”
“He’s next to me.”
“Faster! Run! Until they see us.”
In total darkness, looking around and using the red eyes of the beasts as the only source of light, Longwei, clearing his way from them, ran without stopping towards the forest over which heavy clouds hung.
Not seeing where Yun Qi and Lei were, but hearing their distant footsteps, he ran past the bodies and heard Baofeng-Xue’s voice behind him, “Longwei where are you going?”
Without answering, looking back, he just thought, “Goodbye brother.”
Holding Yun Qi’s hand tightly, Lei shielded her from flying swords and beasts. With one hand, coping with all the anger of the creatures, he did not notice that there were several wounds on his body..
“Brother!” suddenly someone grabbed him by the hand and took him away with force.
“Dewei? What are you doing here?” Looking at the two eyes sparkling in the darkness, Lei let go of Yun Qi’s hand.
“Take this, you will need it.” answered Dewei, handing him a large backpack.
“You know?”
Having handed the backpack into his hands, Dewei abruptly hugged him and whispered, “Good luck to you. Good luck to you all.” Having said this, he disappeared into the night.
“Does he know about everything?” Yun Qi asked.
“Looks like yes. Come on.”
Having spent a lot of time on a duel, Longwei, without understanding anything, simply killed one beast after another. Ignoring the injuries, his eyes were directed forward.
And at that moment when he wanted to free himself from the circle of angry creatures, he suddenly fell down, thereby making a crack on it.
Not having time to catch the beast’s hand, Longwei felt a severe pain in his chest and the next, the crunch of his ribs. The ice that was under him cracked and unable to resist, he fell into the icy water.
Fully immersed in the painfully cold substance, Longwei involuntarily opened his mouth and screamed right under the water, he saw two red dots on the surface.
Rowing with his hands and moving his legs, he was still pulled down.
Slowly feeling his mind filling with emptiness, Longwei, succumbing to the weight of his body, could no longer move.
Closing his eyes, he no longer felt the cold.
The water seemed so calm that he wanted to sleep. He relaxed all his muscles and slowly, slowly lost his thoughts in the slow flow of dark water.
“Yun Qi.”
Perhaps his last thought, which ran through his head, which was before death, suddenly made his heart beat on.
“Lei.”
Seeing green fields in front of him and his father, Longwei opened his eyes and saw a bright glow around him that made the water transparent blue, he smiled.
“Yun Qi. Yun Qi.” screaming in his vanishing thoughts, the strength returned to his body.
Moving his hands and pushing away from the water, Longwei shouted, and the next second he was already very close to the surface.
Swimming upward for the sun’s rays, which were like thin threads stretching straight from the sky, Longwei, hitting the ice with his fist, split it and, getting to the surface, fell on the snow.
Wiping his eyes off the water, he quickly jumped up and was about to check the book, but loud voices distracted him.
“Grab him! Don’t let him escape!” Sun’s voice was heard.
Noticing many of the Second Clan warriors running with torches in their hands and Sun pointing at him, Longwei rushed forward.
“Don’t let him run away!”
Attracting attention to himself, Longwei, completely forgetting about the monsters around, simply ran forward while Sun’s warriors were very close.
Each time thinking that he would finally break away from them, he again found himself still in the middle of the battlefield. The forest was getting away from him with every step forward.
Without looking back, Longwei continued his journey with the last of his strength.
Hearing an arrow flying past him, he turned his head and saw that several of the soldiers were wounded, and taking advantage of this moment, he slipped across the immense ice and finally reached the forest.
“Lei!”
“Faster.” Grabbing his hand, Lei entered the depths of the dark forest.
“Master, we missed him.”
“Idiot!” Grabbing the sword, Sun thrust it into the warrior without any hesitation. “I told you to catch him.”
“Master, but why did you suddenly need him?”
“Why?!” exclaimed Sun thrusting his sword into the warrior who asked. “He must be caught by any means. He and Yun Qi.”
“This is that book, right?” asked Ju Long.
Gently lifting the book to his face, Sun replied, “This is the book. The one I have been looking for for so long.”
“So you were right in your guesses. After all, Longwei is connected with lifting the curse?”
“Right. Therefore, you should catch him with his daughter. And as soon as possible. Make Longwei stand in front of me with his daughter tomorrow morning. If you don’t, then say goodbye to your life.”
“Yes Master.”
“What are you standing? Go after them now!”
A whole army of soldiers headed in different directions, like ants scattered through the forest.
Embracing the book, Sun looked at Ju Long with concern in his eyes and said, “I finally found this book, but I found it too late. Ju Long, you know every forest and every corner of it. I think you’ll find them easily.”
“The forest is my second essence Master.”
“Then you know what to do.”
“I will bring them to you, Master. I will definitely find them.” replied Ju Long with a venomous smile on his face.
Stopping after two hours of running, Longwei saw a large rock in the form of a small cave and said, “Let’s stop here.”
“You’re shaking all over. I’m going to light the fire.” Yun Qi said as she walked forward.
With his last strength, Longwei was no longer able to speed up his pace. Looking at Lei he asked, “How are you?”
“I’m fine.”
“You have blood all over your clothes. Have you been wounded.”
“It’s just a scratch.”
“From the blood-soaked clothing, it doesn’t look like a normal scratch.”
“Don’t think about me.” said Lei and fell to the ground under the stone roof of a small cave and began to open his backpack.
“Where did you get that?” Longwei asked sitting down beside him.
“My brother gave it.”
“Did you tell him?”
“No. I don’t know how he knows.”
Taking food from the backpack, Lei approached the fire and said, “We need to eat and continue on our way.”
“Do you even know where to go?” Yun Qi asked, snatching food from Lei’s hands. Seeing the bread and beans, she happily began to eat it.
“Lei, you probably know where.” said Longwei, taking off his outerwear.
“I don’t know. But we still need to go. As Zihao said, beyond the forest around the battlefield, other lands begin. He said that there is a steppe beyond.” Lei replied biting off a piece of bread.
“Have you spoken to Zihao?”
“Yes.”
Laying his head on Lei’s legs, Longwei lying close to the fire said, “Yun Qi, and you turned out to be stronger than the two of us. Look at me and Lei, we are like old men. And you alone destroyed several beasts, you were able to concentrate on the target despite the chaos around. Well done Yun Qi. ”
After eating the nuts, Yun Qi let her wavy hair down and leaned against the wall and said, “Dad, I want to read that book.”
After reaching for his wet waistcoat, Longwei sat down. “I hope the book is safe after water.”
“What? Were you under the ice?”
“Yes. And I almost died.” Longwei reached into his pocket and after checking it several times suddenly jumped up and whispered in horror, “There is no book.”
“What? You lost it? Of course you lost it.”
“Calm down. Nothing to worry about. The main thing is that Sun doesn’t find it.” said Lei.
To which Longwei replied, “It seems he has already found it. So he ordered his soldiers to catch me.”
Plunging into silence, the three of them were looking at the flame of fire. Until Yun Qi said, “Let Sun and his soldiers look for us. But they won’t catch us.”
“Among them was Ju Long, and he knows every corner of every forest like the back of his hand.”
“I think I saw him. He is similar to Sun.” added by Yun Qi.
“I should have given the book to Yun Qi. Why did I take it with me.”
“If Sun catches us this time, then you know what he will do to us. Moreover, he now knows about Yun Qi and who she is.” said Lei packing his things into his backpack back.
“What are you doing?”
“We need to move on.”
Noticing that Yun Qi’s eyes began to close, Longwei objected, “No. Let her sleep. She needs strength.”
“So are you.”
“I won’t sleep. Someone has to be on guard.”
Without saying anything, Lei made Longwei lie down and covered him with his cloak. “Sleep.”
Waking up to the sound of his own teeth beating against each other from the cold, Longwei opened his eyes and there was pitch darkness around.
In panic, looking in the direction where Yun Qi was sleeping and seeing her, he calmed down and looked around. Lei was nowhere to be found.
Putting on his clothes, which were already completely dry, Longwei stood up and took a knife.
“Where are you going?” suddenly a quiet voice was heard.
“Lei?!”
“I’m here.”
“What are you doing over there?”
“I decided that it was better to see someone from here.” Lei said coming down from the tree.
“It’s too cold, I’m afraid Yun Qi will catch a cold. Do you happen to have stones with dragon fire in your backpack?”
“I put them next to Yun Qi.” Lei answered.
“What should we do next. How could I have lost the book. How could I.” Longwei muttered.
“In this book, there was still no useful information for us. There was only pure prediction and legend.”
“Now Sun knows everything. Yun Qi is now in danger, the whole world is in danger.” sitting on the snow, Longwei covered his face with his hands.
Feeling Lei’s gentle embrace, he laid his head on his shoulder and continued, “Where are we going now. There really was no map. Or is it all just fiction.”
“We started this journey, and we need to get Yun Qi to the Kingdom of Waterfalls. This is not the place for her. So we need to find the right path by all means.”
“But we don’t even know which way to go. And the food will be over soon, what then?”
Longwei raised his head and met Lei’s shining eyes. He whispered, “What should we do next. You decided that we need to run away today, did you really think that the road itself will show us where to go? ”
“Why did I choose this particular night? Because if we had stayed in the clan any longer, we would have been killed.” Lei answered.
“What? Why?”
“If I tell you why then you will be angry.”
“Tell me Lei.”
Standing up and leaning against a tree, Lei began with a heavy sigh. “Do you remember that night when you walked with Yun Qi? That night, I met Sun. And he wanted, how to say, he wanted love.”
With a loud cry, Longwei grabbed Lei’s arm in rage. “What?! What did he do?”
“Hush, he didn’t do anything. Before he wanted to do anything, I beat him badly. And after that he told me that he would kill me and you. So I had no choice but to run away today.”
Without saying anything, Longwei kicked a lying stone next to him.
“So now Sun has two reasons to catch us. So we can’t turn back or give up.”
Returning to the cave and lighting the fire, Longwei, unable to sleep, looked at the peacefully sleeping Yun Qi and, putting his hands in his pockets, suddenly felt something round in it.
Pulling it out and realizing it was tightly wrapped paper, he began to unfold it.
After reading the contents, namely the words of the spell to create life in the Spherical Stone, he read in a whisper,
“Core, light, water,
Three-headedness, height, moon
Half, south rain
Three roads, turn.
Core, blizzard, one star
Through the cold
In this life my candle
Flying through the snow
One road
Oblivion of fire.
Core, life, my heart.”
After repeating this several times, he suddenly ran headlong out of the cave.
Quickly climbing the tree, he grabbed Lei by the shoulders and exclaimed happily, “I know where we should go!”
