The Voyage In The Blizzard - Chapter 87
“We have two more days.” Longwei said to himself when he saw the real moon in the sky.
A silver disc surrounded by a myriad of stars was right before his gaze.
“How quickly a person can forget about everything when he is where he always wanted to be.” he said lying on the grass. Seeing that Yun Qi was sitting in the company of Changchang and Yubi, he said with relief in his voice, “Maybe we should enjoy these two days.”
“What if I choose the path of selfishness?” Lei asked suddenly, trying not to show his painful sadness.
“What do you mean?”
Rising on his elbows, Lei continued, “If we continue to live like this. Without lifting the curse. Just here and now.. Forgetting about that icy world. What if I want to live like this. With you. With Yun Qi. And not think about the curse.”
“We cannot leave that world. Even if there is a lot of evil there, there are still good people. They do not deserve to live in constant fear. We cannot do that.”
“But.”
“No but Lei. That world should finally see the sunlight. Stop suffering and fear.”
Clutching his shirt Lei looked into his eyes and said, “But you will die. If the curse is lifted, you will die.”
“And I will not die in vain.” removing his hand, Longwei stood up. “At least my death will be worthy.” Having said this and on this closing the topic, he headed towards the pond, which was in the middle of lush bushes with small flowers.
Noticing the sudden change in his mood, Yun Qi wanted to approach him but Lei stopped her with a hand gesture.
“Yun Qi, tell me more. About these men.” Changchang said, behaving more relaxed.
Returning to the conversation, Yun Qi said, “What else can I say about them. The only thing is, they are not trolls. They are the same people, only they look a little differently.”
“They are all beautiful like your fathers?”
“Well, not all.”
“Who is the most beautiful among them for you? Except your fathers.” chewing on dried apricots ChangChang asked.
Lost in thought, Yun Qi did not answer at first. But then she said, “I think Xing Fu.”
“Are you in love with him as much as Queen Li Hua with Lan Jun?”
“In love? I don’t know. He’s just a very good friend.” Suddenly Yun Qi screamed at Longwei, “Dad where are you going?”
“I’m tired. I’m going to sleep.”
“I’m going to sleep in Changchang’s room today! Okay?!”
“Good.” he answered.
As the day of his death approached, Longwei felt more fear. If earlier dying at the hands of beasts was like an anecdote for him, now, standing on the abyss between two realities, he felt his heart beating furiously, just like a bird locked in a cage.
Entering the room, he stood in gentle darkness. Bathed in the moonlight, he closed his eyes and the cool summer wind had a calming effect.
“Longwei.” Lei’s quiet voice was heard. Sensing him behind him, Longwei said without opening his eyes, “Forgive me.”
“If we have two days left.” Lei began approaching him. Pressing his head against his chest, he gently stroked his back with his palm. “If we have only two days to be happy, I want to remember everything.”
Trying to remove unnecessary sentimentality, Longwei laughed and asked, “Right here?”
Without saying anything more, Lei gently and carefully put a light kiss on his lips.
“Let me look at you in the moonlight.” whispered Longwei and stood up. Slowly pulling off the right sleeve of the shirt, then the left sleeve, he exposed Lei’s body.
Moonlight on pale skin suddenly shone with millions of small particles. Letting go of his hair, Longwei whispered, “The light of my heart.”
Slowly, as if studying each other for the first time, they read every place of their skin with attention.
With trembling hands, Lei was gently stroking Longwei’s wounded back. One tear fell down, making Longwei’s skin burn.
“I do not want to rush.” Lei whispered, holding a rose to Longwei’s lips.
“We are creating eternity.” he whispered and wrapped his arms around his broad back, Longwei closed his eyes.
“I love you.”
“I love you.”
“If you love, then you will stay with me.”
“If you love, then we will definitely meet.”
“If you love, if you love, cast off all prejudices.” Lei whispered, bringing his hand down.
“Lei.”
“If you die, there is no life for me.”
“Be selfish.”
“Selfishness only makes sense when you have a lover next to you.”
Turning over and pressing him to bed, resting his head in the region of his heart and listening to the beating, Longwei whispered, “In parting we find eternity. In parting we are reborn.”
In the bright moonlight, creating their eternity, the fleetingness of feelings turned into love, which with every breath turned into the indestructible strength of two kindred souls.
The next morning, waking up from the sweet smell, Lei opened his eyes and the first thing he saw was a whole basket of strawberries.
“Good morning.” Longwei said with a smile on his face and gave him a kiss on the forehead.
“What it is?”
“This is for you.” Bringing strawberries to his lips, Longwei said, “This is your reward for last night.”
Lei pulled him close to him and threw him onto the bed. After taking a bite of strawberry, he kissed Longwei. “Why didn’t you reward me before?”
“I rewarded you.” Longwei objected.
“How?”
“You know how.”
“And then he decided to get rid of me with a berry.”
Hearing footsteps in the hallway, Longwei pushed him away and quickly jumped up and covered Lei with a blanket. “Yun Qi is coming.”
Before she could enter, Longwei ran outside and slammed the door behind him.
“Yun Qi! How are you? Would you like to eat?”
“On the way here, I met the queen in the garden. And you know what? She invited us to have breakfast with her.”
“Breakfast?”
“We need to wake Lei up. Is he still sleeping?” she asked and before Longwei could stop her she was already in the room.
Running after her, Longwei expected to see Yun Qi’s reaction at the sight of the mess in the room and slightly torn curtains, but to his relief Lei had already cleaned up and dressed completely.
“Good morning. Would you like a berry?”
“The Queen invited us to breakfast.”
“Really? That’s very sweet of her.” Lei replied winking at Longwei.
“Where do so many berries come from?” Yun Qi asked, holding a large, apple-sized strawberry in her hand.
“This is my reward.” Lei responded by forcing Longwei to jump over the bed and shut his mouth.
“Yun Qi why don’t you put your hair in order. Let Changchang help you.”
“Good.” Looking at both of them suspiciously, Yun Qi left the room, taking some of the largest strawberries with her.
“Do you think she noticed?” asked Longwei in a sweat.
“Noticed what?”
“An overturned table at the entrance. Why didn’t you hide it?”
Walking up to the table which was lying upside down, Lei said, “Now the table is in place.”
Falling onto the bed, Longwei covered his face with his hands out of shame.
Lying down next to him, Lei put a berry in his mouth and laughed loudly. “Poor Changchang. Now what will she do with the torn curtains and the broken jars.”
“And how we will explain all this?”
“We’ll say we had a fight.” Lei whispered and smiled.
