The Voyage In The Blizzard - Chapter 97
Moving away from the vision, to the sound of rain and thunder, Longwei opened his eyes in horror and immediately felt a cold hand on his forehead.
Not knowing how much time had passed, he looked in the direction of the exit and all he saw was pouring rain that looked so much like a blizzard.
“Rain. A strange natural phenomenon. But perhaps it brings some comfort. Although the sound that comes from the sky is a little scary.” Yue Liang said while helping Longwei sit up.
Feeling the strongest nausea from the effect of those herbs that were at the end of the needle, Longwei turned away from him and wanted to vomit, but the urge to vomit immediately disappeared and instead a strong hunger came.
“I want to eat.” he said, crouching in pain which was bringing him his empty stomach.
Hurrying to put chicken meat and fried potato slices on a plate, Yue Liang hurriedly ran to Longwei.
“Untie my hands. How will I eat?”
“I’ll feed you.”
Shaking his head, Longwei looked wearily at Yue Liang’s eyes which for some reason were red, with burst capillaries.
“If I untie you, you will run away.” he said handing him a potato.
“Because of your needles, I barely have the strength to take a breath. Do you think I can run?”
Looking at him with excitement and anxiety, Yue Liang still decided to do as Longwei ordered.
Snatching the plate from his hands, Longwei began to eat quickly and greedily.
“Slower.”
After finishing all the contents of the plate, Longwei said, “Give me water.”
Smiling with happiness that he had eaten, Yue Liang sat down next to him and covered him with his cloak and said, “Forgive me Longwei.”
Longwei just chuckled without saying anything.
“What’s so funny?”
“It’s all strange. You ask me for forgiveness for everything you did. Are you really that stupid?”
“You’re going to be angry with me all your life now, won’t you?”
“If you let me go, I would forget about everything. But you are holding me while my daughter is probably in trouble.” Longwei replied by listening to the sound of the rain, which, strangely enough, had a calming effect.
Silently looking at the fire, Yue Liang became sad. Noticing this and knowing that his heart is not really selfish at all, Longwei said, “I know you. I understand that everything is happening too fast and you are lost in this chaos. I understand everything. And your feelings too. I understand. But please let me go. Let me see my daughter. Let me help her with something. I don’t have much time.”
Pressing his head to his shoulder, Yue Liang sat in silence for a while, but then quietly said, “I love you Longwei. I can’t help it. I’m afraid of losing you. I’m afraid that if I let you go, you will die. I’m afraid to live without you.”
Deciding that there was no point in hiding his situation any longer, Longwei said, “I will die soon.”
“It’s war now, everyone thinks so.”
“No. I really will die soon. Yue Liang, I am serious. When the curse is lifted, I will have to die.”
Looking at him with surprise and fear, he wanted to ask, but Longwei continued, “When Yun Qi was born, no, when I put my hair strand on the Spherical Stone, then my life energy began to slowly leave me. Perhaps this is because Yun Qi is an unusual child. Because she contains the most powerful force. And perhaps that’s why for her sake, my strength was taken away. I sacrificed my life to give life to someone so unusual. My mission will soon come to an end. Therefore, my dear Yue Liang, I will leave you anyway. And you can’t hold me.”
Lowering his head, Yue Liang froze for a moment. And it was clear from him that he was crying quietly. Noticing the trembling in his body, Longwei looked at his legs, which were tightly bound, and then at his hands, which were free.
If he dared to push or hit him, he would be able to escape, but for some reason, some force kept him from this escape attempt. Instead, he put his hand on his back and said, “Honestly, I wouldn’t want to spend the last hours of my life with you.”
Expecting that he would be angry or that he would stab him with the needle again, Longwei threw his head back and closed his eyes.
Smelling the scent of rain for the first time, Longwei already began to feel his heart beating weaker and weaker. Feeling his body weakening, his blood cooling, his thoughts slowing down, he thought about Yun Qi.
Expecting that death would come for him at any second, he decided to scroll in his head all those memories that were associated with her and with Lei. And also, in the very corner of his imagination, he could see his father waiting for him on the doorstep to another world.
“You will not die Longwei.” Yue Liang suddenly said.
Finding the strength to laugh, Longwei trembled with weakness and said, “It doesn’t depend on you.”
Falling onto the bed, all his strength at once began to leave him.
Hugging him Yue Liang shouted, “Longwei! Open your eyes.”
Hearing the footsteps of death itself, Longwei opened his eyes in delirium, and Lei’s face appeared before his eyes. Reaching out to his cheek, Longwei smiled. Through chapped lips, he wanted to say something, but he had less and less strength left.
“Longwei! No!” Holding him tightly, Yue Liang suddenly heard something outside.
Quickly untiing his legs, he grabbed his sword and ran out.
“Who’s here? Boqin is that you?”
But hearing loud voices and laughter, he immediately realized who it was.
After running back into the cave, Yue Liang lifted Longwei and put him on his feet and said, “Can you walk? Longwei, you need to find the strength to walk.”
“Yes.” whispered Longwei, finding enough energy to keep his weight on his feet.
Embracing him in the knowledge that this is the end, Yue Liang said, “Forgive me.”
Running outside, Longwei fully regained consciousness under the cold raindrops.
“Run in that direction.”
“Will you stay here?”
“Longwei.” Yue Liang began, but his face writhed in pain. Be fell to his knees and the arrow that pierced his chest went straight through his heart. “Run.” with his last breath, he spoke and fell firmly to the wet ground.
Without waiting for the Second Clan warriors to show up, Longwei ran down the path.
Slippery stones like a stairs made his steps impossible. Under the black clouds, not seeing what was ahead, he nevertheless continued to walk even if with every step there was a chance that he would fall and break his bones.
Below, seeing the lights of the Kingdom, now, quickening his pace, he ran. He was running like that there was no gravity in the world.
Leaving the wet stones behind, he stepped on the wet grass with blood clots and stopped. Not knowing where to run further, he tried to hear the sounds of swords beating against each other, but he did not see anyone.
“Yun Qi!” he exclaimed, but all he got in return was earth-shaking thunder.
The thunder that twitched all around, passing into his very heart, squeezing his veins, blocked the blood flow. Clutching his shirt, Longwei fell to the ground. The feeling that his heart was breaking into small pieces made him cry out in pain. Realizing what a broken heart means, he literally experienced the very present moment when his own blood began to tear his heart veins apart.
“I have to go. I have to go.” he whispered to himself, looking for some strength in his own words.
“Longwei. Follow me.” his father’s voice was heard. Through the curtain of rain, seeing the silhouette of Fei Jian Longwei whispered, “Help me dad.”
“Come after me.” Fei Jian said and and disappeared into the rain.
Finding the strength to stand up, despite the intense pain in his heart, Longwei gasped, involuntarily crying, took steps forward and with each step he left his life behind him.
