The Voyage In The Blizzard - Chapter 98
“Doubt, rage, anger, defenselessness, hopelessness, coldness, anxiety, fear.” As he ran over all these words in his head, Longwei could no longer move. Such an ordinary and natural process of movement now seemed to him the most real torture. He felt the energy leaving his body, he knew that the end was near, but instead of being afraid, he was happy. He was happy because it meant that Yun Qi would soon remove the curse, change the world, and finally everything would be fine. Everything will be as he always dreamed. Only, without him.
He knew that this was the end of his journey. And at the end of this path, he could see his dream. But his dream was getting further and further from him, leaving him in the hands of an icy void.
Filling his already disappearing thoughts with the sounds of war, he lay on the wet ground and warm drops fell on him, washing away the tears that flowed in a stream.
“How dramatic I’ve become.” he whispered to himself, clutching the soil and grass in his hand.
“So this is how a person who dies feels. So this is how death smells.” he said closing his eyes. Not paying attention that a crowd of monsters and a crowd of warriors were running at him, he gave up long ago. Most importantly, he was confident that Yun Qi was okay.
“Lei.” he whispered. “Lei.”
“Longwei! Are you hurt? Can you hear me?” Grabbing his hand, Delun shouted right into his ear but Longwei did not hear him. All he did was mutter a name. “You can’t lie here. Hurry, let’s go. Can you get up?” Piercing the approaching beast with his sword, Delun lifted Longwei by the arms and shouted, “Dewei! Help me!”
As if a lifeless doll, while lying in the arms of Delun Longwei could still see the tall figure of Dewei.
“What happened to him?”
“I don’t know. Take him to safety.” Delun ordered him and after kicking the monster that climbed onto the back of Baofeng-Xue, he went on to battle.
“Yun Qi. Where is she?” Longwei asked in a whisper.
“Lie here. Don’t go anywhere.”
“Dewei. Where are they?”
“Lei is on the Tiger Mountain.”
“Yun Qi.”
Shaking his head, Dewei rushed to defend the Royal Warrior.
“Get out of here. Go defend the city!”
Ruolan easily exterminating all the beasts around, pushed Dewei aside and said, “There are too many of them.”
“Where is your queen? Maybe she needs your protection?” shouted Ice from the other end of the field.
“Her Majesty does not need our help.” answered Ruolan and did a back somersault.
“We need shelter! We’re out of arrows and many of our guys are injured. We can’t fight to the death any longer. Or we’ll lose everyone.”
“We will detain them and you will take all the wounded away from here. Hurry!” shouted Baofeng-Xue. Then, noticing his son running towards the gate, he grabbed his hand and stopped him. “Where are you going? Go quickly with everyone.”
“I need to help.”
“Leave quickly!” Baofeng-Xue shouted angrily, pushing him aside with force.
“Ruolan, take everyone away! Your warriors are seriously injured too.” Dewei told her. But not listening to him, she and the entire royal army continued to swing their swords and pull the torn bowstring.
“Dewei here!” someone shouted from behind, but he did not have time to look around.
Hanging upside down from his broad shoulder, Longwei, ceasing to think normally and clearly, still tried to find at least something ironic and funny in his situation. How many times he had to hang like this from someone’s shoulder or back, and all he saw was fast-moving grass and endless ground that now turned brown and blood red.
“Longwei, what’s wrong with you? Longwei, look at me.” the third time Dewei repeated, finding at least some kind of shelter behind the mountain of corpses.
“Longwei!” Baofeng-Xue ran up to him and grabbed his hand as he always did. Looking in horror into his eyes, he said with a cracking voice, “I don’t know where Yun Qi is. Forgive Longwei. Forgive me.”
“He can’t hear anything. He seems to have suffered a serious head injury. Longwei, can you hear me?”
“Brother Longwei.” He reaching out his hand to his pale and icy face and wiped the frozen blood from his eyes and repeated, “Brother Longwei.”
Staring ahead, Longwei with glass eyes looked at everyone who ran past them. The whole view of the kingdom that was far away, the view of the fields and mountains with eternally calm waterfalls opened up in front of him as if all this knew that this was his last time when he could enjoy the beauty of nature like this. For a moment, death, showing mercy, allowed his mind to free itself from anxiety and forget about Yun Qi, about Lei for a second.
“Brother!”
“Longwei!”
While shaking him, Baofeng-Xue lightly slapped him on the cheek to revive him, but none of this helped.
“Wait for me.” Dewei said and jumping up, like a madman, walked somewhere to the side.
“Where are you going?”
“Find Yun Qi and Lei.”
“Everyone is looking for them. They are nowhere to be found.”
“Someone has to find them.”
“This is the queen!” suddenly someone screamed and for a moment forgetting about the danger of sharp fangs and claws everyone turned towards the palace.
Li Hua, walking confidently and without a drop of fear, with her head held high, looked at each of the warriors so that she wanted to convey her unshakable calmness to them.
Walking behind her, holding the blade of the sword to her throat, Sun looked at her with a smile on his face. He looked eagerly, looked with the happiness of victory.
Stepping forward with the sword Ruolan immediately stopped noticing that Li Hua slightly shook her head.
“Thank you all of course for the show. But we have to leave.” said Sun with sadness in his voice. “This is probably the best thing I’ve done in my life. And besides, Li Hua is so well-mannered. I didn’t even have to force her to follow me.”
“Your Majesty.” Sharply releasing her last arrow, Nien still missed the target. Ducking his head, Sun looked at her and shook his head in disagreement.
“That is how you treat your guests who about to leave? Maybe you should give us food. Still, there is a whole road ahead.”
“How dare you?!”
“It’s all your fault!” pointing her sword at the warriors of the First Clan, one of the royal warriors shouted. “It’s your fault! You started it all!”
“Yes! That’s all of them!” laughing said Sun. Touching Li Hua’s neck, he whispered, “It’s their fault, my dear.”
“It’s your fault! You should be punished for your actions!”
“We saved you by substituting ourselves under their fangs!” shouted Delun. “We’ve come to your aid!”
“And you call this help?!”
“I personally saved you several times!”
“And what should I bow before you now?”
“Enough!” joining the conversation, Zihao said, “Can’t you see? Look at him!”
Laughing, Sun suddenly stopped and looked surprised. “Well my dear friends, it’s always fun to be with you. But it’s really time for us to leave. I hope we’ll see you again.” Having said this, he grabbed Li Hua’s hand with a squeeze.
Releasing an arrow and hitting the target, Ruolan said, “You won’t go anywhere.”
Pulling the arrow out of his hand so it was just a splinter, he silently looked at it and then sent more strength to the blade of his sword, thereby leaving a scar on Li Hua’s neck. “I can kill her, it won’t be such a big problem. I can take it as revenge. Anyway, I wanted to do just that, but it’s a pity that so quickly. But nevertheless, this is also a kind of victory. Am I right grandpa?”
Looking somewhere to his right, he seemed to be talking to someone, smiling and shaking his head, he suddenly lowered his head and then shouted out loudly, “I know!”
But when he came to his senses, he looked at Li Hua’s calm face and said, “I’m sorry dear. You are in pain, but be patient.”
“You are a crazy idiot!” cried Dewei. “Stop it! Don’t you know how this will end?”
“Just don’t tell me that good will triumph over evil. Not this time. It happens only in fairy tales, but I will not allow this world to become a fairy tale.” Squeezing Li Hua’s hand until red, he pulled it to him and watching the reaction of the royal soldiers, he lightly kissed her on the cheek.
“How cheap are you? Didn’t you find anything original?” suddenly a voice was heard. “Sun, you are a typical villain. And I expected more from you. And your phrases are taken from the tales of ancient knights.”
“Brother Longwei!”
Longwei, regaining his energy, looked like before. The red blush on his cheeks said that life had returned to his body. Without a sword, without any weapon, he put his hands in his pants pockets and walked slowly towards him.
“So Sun, should I play along with you? Or should everyone pretend to be scared?” he asked, getting closer and closer, which alarmed the monsters who silently stood around Sun.
“Longwei, I’m sorry, of course, but you are no longer interesting to me. And in general, I expected you to be dead. But yes, someone like you will never die.”
Laughing loudly, Longwei stopped and bent down to get a better look at his face. “What’s going on? Do you even know? I don’t know. What’s going on? Why is there a war? Why are you holding such a beautiful woman in your rough hands? Sun, explain to me. Don’t you think that your dead grandfather is now standing and looking at you?” Longwei asked suddenly.
“What? What are you talking about?” Sun smiled nervously, a little worried.
“Jang Sun. The man who created the whole legend and divided the whole world. The man who poisoned this world. Your grandfather. Your ancestor.” Longwei took a step forward. “Jang Sun, you also think that Sun is just nothing? He can’t even reach his goals. He’s weak and he never achieved anything. I can only imagine how shameful you are because of your grandson.”
“Stop talking nonsense!”
“Jang Sun, you went crazy too. Got crazy and died. Died!” shouted Longwei, raising his hands to the sky. “But don’t worry, your death was not in vain. I will help your great-grandson reach at least some heights.” After a short silence, Longwei looked towards Tiger Mountain and whispered so that only Sun could hear him, “In the world of the dead.”
