The Weapon Masters Transmigration - Chapter 135 Off To A Party
“The truth is only known by a great few. A meteorite had landed and while that isn’t particularly interesting, what it was made of was what made scientists study it.”
“It turned out that certain individuals when they made contact with it would contract… special abilities. But of course, there was a price to such power.”
Although Mikhail’s words and expression had made the atmosphere quite serious, Cole couldn’t help but linger on a certain fact.
‘What is this? A superhero comic book? I mean, that’s basically what the〈Times Zone〉is if every Zone was a book.’
Mikhail could sense Cole’s doubt about the story. Well, that was because he was showing it on his face. Probably just to drive the point home.
“As absurd as it sounds, that is what happened. It sounded like one of the stories my grandson is so entranced with.”
“But that wasn’t the end of it. One of those had a power that was the reason for the supposed ‘Zombie Apocalypse’ in the first place…”
Mikhail’s grip on the teacup tightened and Cole could feel Mikhail restraining himself from cursing.
“It was known to the people as the time as〈Infection〉”
“How do you know this?”
“Because I had experienced it obviously.”
Felicia had raised her eyebrow and blinked her eyes repeatedly in confusion. The expression she had on her face resembled that one meme.
“As for how a person that should obviously be dead by now is right here looking not a single day over 30 to maybe 50. I will have to start when I first awakened my own ability. I had signed up for the volunteer program because it could give me a bit of extra cash since, at the time, I was a mere second son. What made it worse was that I was my father’s illegitimate child and was mistreated during my entire life at his mansion. I walked into the testing centre without any dreams. A dead fish had more life in its eyes than there was in mine at the time. So, I–”
Cole made sure to stop Mikhail before he could start spouting off his entire life story in a single breath. His life story would probably sell if it was advertised as a novel than Mikhail’s biography. It even made Cole actually consider doing that. If it quelled the old man’s desire for people to know his story, why not?
If Mikhail still went on with his backstory, he was more than willing to reenact their battle from only a few days earlier.
“Okay, now, I’m really sorry to say this. The story behind the history of the〈Times Zone〉sounds legitimately interesting as well as your own exploits. But I don’t think that this is the best of times, isn’t the Serigan Party quite close?”
Silence befell the room. You couldn’t exactly call it awkward but the silence was there. With such sound reasoning, Mikhail could only quietly agree and save his stories for another day. He nodded and the party discussed details about the party as well as the guests that would be attending.
It turned out to be quite the fruitful discussion. Cole was able to choose and assign targets for both him and Felicia. As for the fact that she said that she only wanted female targets with a strange glint in her eyes, Cole decided to chalk it up to her usual weirdness.
Now, Cole decided to show the two of them to a guest room he had Felicia prepare just in case. They were probably quite tired from the trip.
But it turned out that Mikhail had one last question for Cole.
“I have a question. How exactly do you plan to get information and I assume clients for your thing or whatever?”
“Well, first I’ll disguise myself as–”
“Hold your horses right there.”
‘…? Huh? Is that a problem somehow?’
“You plan to make contact with people with the appearance of another?”
“Well, yes. It’s best to keep my true face anonymous is it not? And the kinds of deals that are planned for Black Hollow aren’t really supposed to be seen as quite friendly.”
“Would you like to elaborate?”
“I am pretty sure that you can use your imagination to answer that question?”
“Then does that mean you’ll even smuggle people between Zones?”
“Well, if the price is high enough and I can get approval, it’s not impossible.”
“Hey, Cole…”
“What is it?”
“I thought you were a soldier in the past, not a dude from the mafia.”
“Ahem.”
“*insert obviously fake cough*”
Felicia ignored the two very real mafia members that were quite close to her.
“Let’s just say that in the〈Avant Zone〉, the military deals with more things than you think.”
“Hmm…”
Even though she had lived in the〈Avant Zone〉for a good chunk of her life, there was a lot Felicia didn’t know about it.
But that only made sense, a fourteen-year-old girl at the time would usually have not a single idea about the kinds of dark things their planet’s military involves themselves with. Well, even if the topic got Felicia thinking right now, her attention was easily grabbed by other things that interested her.
“Now, what were we talking about?”
“Ah, yes. Go out with your real face. But what about the filter company to cover it up?”
“Ha… Now, Mikhail. Besides, having to register an official company sounds that it will take some time and other affairs. And what would the company do or be about even?”
“? Didn’t those twins offer up an idea?”
*twitch*
Some part of Cole’s body twitched ever so slightly.
“Did you say, twins?”
“Yes, twins. They had blue hair and mint green eyes. Their Russian was quite polished and they seemed to be such sweet children.”
‘Those two… Sweet children?’
‘I can imagine them acting to be such at least. They were in charge of PR back at〈S.T.E.L.L.A〉. If they acted like their usual childish selves, I can’t imagine them lasting long.’
“Unfortunately, they haven’t contacted me about such a thing yet. Would you please tell me what exactly their ‘idea’ was?”
“They said about establishing an entertainment agency considering how the concept of idols has been blowing up recently in the〈Times Zone〉. It wouldn’t be strange for a new company or two to appear in the world. And if actually turns to be successful, then you can appear to the world as the wonderful self-made bachelor.”
It’s not like Cole hadn’t thought of the idea. It was more like he felt he preferred working in the shadows. Well, rather than working in the shadows, he just didn’t like the limelight. If he ever said something liked that aloud…
‘…I’d either be called out or be named a hypocrite…’
But then again, no one would find out anything if Cole said nothing. Not even the person sitting right next to him could guess his thoughts.
*DING*
The sound of a doorbell diverted Cole’s attention. He didn’t need to check the peephole to find out who it was.
“”…!!””
As expected, it was Gemi and Mini, probably about to deliver the late news. Before they got the chance though, Cole grabbed them by their collars and brought them over to a room where they could have a little bit of privacy.
The three of them were now left alone since Cole had dragged– I mean politely brought the twins over to another room for a little questioning. The room became pretty quiet
“Ah! Now that I remember, do you guys know how to play the card game Kalashnikov?”
“Kalashnikov?”
“I think I saw one of my younger members watching a dude online playing it.”
“Ah, you guys don’t know it then? Then do you want to play Durak or Preferans?”
“I would like to play Preferans. It’s been quite some time since I had the chance to play.”
“But Durak is simpler, and if you really want to Preferans, old man, you should get Cole to play with you.”
“Then let’s play both! We can play Durak first and Preferans when Cole comes back!”
Besides that minor scuffle and a few drinks during their card game, the night passed without any incidents. And finally, the time came for when they were to depart for a party.
