Murong Feili smiled smugly as the empress began to explain the rules. There was absolutely no cheating tolerated and the winner would get whatever they desired from the imperial treasury plus a surprise from the emperor himself.

The empress had benevolent, warm eyes and a kind smile as she regarded the girls. Her gaze lingered on Murong Jieli a bit longer than necessary, but other than that, she continued to explain rules and such.

All the girls squealed in happiness as the empress instructed the servants to bring the necessary supplies for (hua), the painting process of the four arts.

”’What are you going to paint?”’ Xiao Fu asked.

‘I don’t know…’ Murong Jieli answered.

Even though Xiao Fu had taken over her body for the sewing portion, that didn’t meant her sidekick was going to do everything else for her. Despite how wonderful the suggestion seemed, she was taught skills like painting and calligraphy and such as a young child. She didn’t just learn them TTDW Academy, but she enhanced her skills there. Her parents wished for her to not be lazy hence teaching her a few things that somehow managed to coincidentally help her at the moment.

Speaking of her parents, she picked up a brush and began to paint thoughtlessly.

Using only four colors, Murong Jieli began to create a masterpiece. Strokes of yellow and black, with the tiniest hints of red and blue, she created a scenery that only one person was familiar withRu Weimin.

He immediately recognized that as the Ethereal Village, one of the quaintest and loveliest places in the Immortal Realm. Ru Weimin assumed that is where her true self lived… This also confirmed that she is the person he was looking for. But watching her paint with nostalgic and sad eyes, something stirred in his heart.

Xiao Meng noticed her master’s gentle eyes and she began to panic, ”’master! Snap out of it! Don’t be fooled like everyone else! Master is above her to fall for such simple tricks.”’

Ru Weimin shook his head slightly, ‘you’re right. For a moment, I felt something foreign in my chest, but I’m glad you reminded me of our original goal.’

Xiao Meng barked cutely in agreement, ”’master, Xiao Meng will always be here to help you realize any problem.”’

While Ru Weimin was remembering Ethereal Village, everyone else was amazed at what the girl was doing. Even some of the other girls that had already finished painting stared at her with shock. How someone was able to create such a vivid and lovely scenery using their imagination is astonishing. None of the people, except Ru Weimin, knew that Murong Jieli was using a cheat; the cheat being that the place was a reality in the Immortal Realm and being her home. It was already her first assignment and she was homesick. Staying with such neglecting parents made her love her nagging parents even more.

She didn’t want to stay in Murong Jieli’s body for long. As long as a sad ending happened, she could go home and spend some time with her family before starting her next assignment.

The servant in charge of time cleared his throat and shook his head. He was so awestruck by her skills that he didn’t realize that he didn’t call the time to end! Five minutes later than intended, the servant loudly announced that time was over. He turned and stared at the empress, but to his surprise, she remained quiet about his late call and kept her gaze on Murong Jieli.

Meanwhile Murong Jieli finally placed down the brush and sighed softly. Such limited art tools didn’t do justice to the true beauty of Ethereal Village. The colors were dull and brittle even though the real village was effervescent and colorful.

Suddenly, she heard clapping and turned to the source. The emperor smiled and continued to clap as he congratulated the young women. Most painted simplicity like cherry blossoms, but a few others, like Murong Jieli, detailed out their painting.

Murong Feili glanced at Murong Jieli’s painting with a smug look on her face. But once she realized how beautifully painted her half-sister’s painting was, horror filled her eyes as she suddenly became very nervous on who would be announced winner of this round.

To everyone’s expectations, except a minority like Murong Feili, Murong Jieli was declared the winner almost unanimously. Emperor and Empress Fan shared a look before Empress Fan smiled at Murong Jieli, “Servants, bring the second young miss of the Murong household the items from the imperial treasury. Li’er, please choose any of the items that you like most. The emperor will grant the surprise at the end of the four competitions to the winner or winners of each competition.”

‘Why did she call me Li’er? I don’t even know her nor was the previous Murong Jieli familiar with her.’

Xiao Fu sighed, ”’mistress, that woman and man are eyeing you the way one would eye their future son or daughter-in-law.”’

Murong Jieli gaped at what Xiao Fu said, but most people assumed she gaped at the prizes being displayed before her.

She subconsciously reached for a pair of green jade pendants. Once she picked it up, she looked at the empress, only for her to give her a knowing smile. “That, my dear, is a couple set.”

‘Damn it.’

The empress continued, “Once you find a husband, make sure to give him the other half. That green jade is a very special jade.”

Murong Jieli opened to ask how, but the empress explained, “From the Mountains of Guo, to the temples where they are polished by monks, that particular pair of green jade pendants is known as the Eternal Intertwinement, meaning the couple that owns it will forever be connected in every lifetime.”

Murong Jieli wanted to scoff. Maybe in this fantasy world that was real, but to her, she was an immortal and such silly toys wouldn’t carry on with her no matter what. Nonetheless, she thanked the empress and grabbed the beautiful pair of pendants to keep.

Everyone watched with interest as Murong Jieli accepted such a valuable treasure. Murong Feili clenched her hanfu tightly with anger as she was sure that should’ve been hers as it didn’t belong to trash like Murong Jieli.

Meanwhile a man watching the entire scene from far away frowned. That shouldn’t have happened. Murong Jieli shouldn’t have won any portion of the competition if he remembered clearly from his previous life…

Did that mean that Murong Jieli was reborn as well?
