The Whirlwind Marriage Of A Vengeful Empress - Chapter 31
The little scared rabbit who had fled to the hallway from room nine earlier quickly located room six and entered.
Zhu Yunqing could not help but breathe a sigh of relief when she saw Wei Chujiu. She didn’t know what she would have done if she had entered another wrong room.
Zhu Yunqing immediately relaxed as her body drooped onto the soft couch nearby. Her hands moved to her heart as she further sunk her body into the comfort of the chair. Her ċhėst heaving up and down rhythmically.
“What’s up with you? Are you okay? Are you drunk? Did that Qiao bitch try to do something to you? And why are you panting?” Wei Chujiu asked quizzically, seeing her friend in such a state.
“I… The… I entered… I almost slipped as I was walking, and there were a bunch of kids in the hall… way,” Zhu Yunqing stuttered, almost biting her tongue because of her silly lie. She wanted to tell the truth but figured she would get teased by her friend.
“Huh?! Kids in the hallway?” Wei Chujiu asked, quirking an eyebrow and throwing a perplexed gaze at her best friend.
“Did I say hallway? I-I meant the hall… outside,” Zhu Yunqing jumbled her incoherent words with a silly smile appearing on her face.
“O-okay! Well, I have been trying to reach you for a long time! Why weren’t you answering my call? Did everything go well?” Wei Chujiu continued with her inquires.
“Yeah! Everything went well. I put my phone on silence or something, so I didn’t hear it ring,” Zhu Yunqing said after calming down.
Wei Chujiu had a doubtful look on her face as if she did not believe what Zhu Yunqing just said. And why would she? Especially after seeing her best friend act weirdly. She noticed the faint blush that was still on Zhu Yunqing’s face as she answered earlier, so, she asked, with her eyes narrowed on Zhu Yunqing’s face, “Then… why are you acting so weird?”
Suddenly a thought popped into Wei Chujiu’s head. Then with a knowing smile etched on her face as she wiggled her eyebrows up and down, Wei Chujiu asked, “Or~… did something goooood happen?”
Zhu Yunqing was lost for a brief moment as she thought, ‘Can what just happened be regarded as ‘something good’?’
Then she shrugged before casually responding, “Does me embarrassing myself count as ‘something goooood’?”
“Embarrassing yourself? Well, it depends on what happened?” Wei Chujiu asked.
“Nothing much. I told you I almost slipped while walking, and there were some guys around,” Zhu Yunqing said, continuing with her ridiculous excuse. She had somehow fine-tuned within a split second.
‘I’m definitely not going to tell her about that!’ Zhu Yunqing thought.
Wei Chujiu rolled her eyes immediately she heard Zhu Yunqing’s response.
‘Does she really think I’ll believe that? Hmm…’
“Really!! Are we still sticking with that? Fine… Fine… I won’t ask anymore. So that’s what made you run in like that earlier? You looked like something was chasing you. Okay! Look, I’ve been sitting here all this time playing on my phone, and you know how bored I get easily when I sit in one place. So, you have to tell me what really happened,” Wei Chujiu probe further as her face brightened with burgeoning excitement. Her eyes were beginning to sparkle, thinking she would get some juicy information after being bored for almost two hours. She looked like a reporter who was about getting her first big scoop.
“I already told you. Don’t even think about poking any further!!” Zhu Yunqing said sharply as a line appeared between her brows. She was not going to let Wei Chujiu tease her, and she was definitely not going to tell her that she had thought she set her up with someone also.
Zhu Yunqing’s words seemed to stamp out the gossipy mode of Wei Chujiu.
“Fine…” Wei Chujiu said in a sad tone since she was not able to get anything out of her.
“So… where is the surprise you planned?” Zhu Yunqing asked, trying to change the topic.
Zhu Yunqing’s question immediately reminded Wei Chujiu of her plans. So, she stood up from her seat and pulled Zhu Yunqing to where she was sitting.
“Oh, right! Tada! Wait no, surprise~~” Wei Chujiu announced happily. Her voice was laced with excitement while her hands gestured towards the table filled with various refreshments. She didn’t look one bit like her sad self a few seconds ago. One would even think it’s two people. Or she had multiple personalities with the way her expression switched between her sad look to the beaming smile.
“So… this is the surprise?!” Zhu Yunqing wondered. Her tone sounded bland, and there was not much of a surprised look on her face.
“What do you mean by that? What else do you think would be the surprise?” Wei Chujiu asked.
“Wait!! Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten just because we didn’t celebrate for the last two years.. You haven’t forgotten, right?” Wei Chujiu said, squinting her eyes narrowly at Zhu Yunqing.
