The Wizard Called Oz – HP - Chapter 131
The cheers of the giant didn’t seem to cease after such a rollercoaster of a battle. Seeing the little underdog wizard overpower their prodigy was something they couldn’t have dreamed of seeing yet it happened before them today. Normally a tribe would be upset with such an outcome, losing a giant that had such potential however a giant’s tribe at its core was a tribe that centered around brutal battles and this battle was something the likes of which they had never seen, exciting everyone in the vicinity.
Oz smiled weakly hearing the cheers around him after the gurg declared his victory. Up to this point as of coming to this world this was the hardest fight he had ever been in. Even compared to his fight with Dumbledore this was many MANY levels above due to the sheer brutality of it. There wasn’t a part of Oz that wasn’t bruised, broken or battered yet despite these injuries littering his body, he held his head up high with a prideful aura that both stemmed from himself as well as his bloodline that seemed ‘satisfied’ with the fight he had gone through.
(“Never would I have expected such an outcome to happen when you first arrived here Oz and declared your intent to fight our prodigy… Such a fight was a feast for the eyes!”)
The Gurg Ifum seemed to be in an incredibly jubilant mood after the battle where Golgomath was killed. Oz looking at the giants face knew exactly why she was so pleased with the outcome. The giants in the vicinity still were cheering and talking loudly to the point where it was hard to hear what Ifum was saying, Alfreda still managed to translate for Oz perfectly however Ifum seemed bothered by the noise so she stood up and silenced the tribe with a loud shout before speaking again.
(“You’ve certainly gained our respect Oz. Feel free to stay here within our tribe for as long as you’d like… as a matter of fact, why not we have a feast tonight to celebrate Oz’s victory!”)
Hearing the word ‘feast’ seemed to trigger the giants within the crowd again as they cheered in glee. Alfreda quickly translated again for Oz and Oz after understanding what Ifum was saying to him gave a nod to the Gurg who smiled back noting that Oz had accepted her offer. Ifum once again looked out at the crowd of giants and immediately told them to disperse. As they did they all ran off into different parts of the forest and clashes between giants could be heard within seconds.
(“Hahahaha, It seems the blood within the tribe is boiling after that fight!”).
Ifum let out a hearty laugh as she heard the clashes of battle in the distance after the giants finally dispersed from the arena. Looking down the only two people left were Oz and Alfreda, the latter of whom was tending to Oz’s wounds carefully yet quickly applying all sorts of healing herbs, medicine and giving Oz potions in order to heal him as quickly as possible.
“There’s no need to rush Alfreda-”
Alfreda blanked her master as she continued to tend to him at a crazy speed. Oz already noticed this before however it seemed whenever it came to his own health Alfreda seemed to go crazy trying to heal him. Seeing that she wasn’t listening, Oz simply sighed and let her do what she wanted. He had no energy at the moment to fight back anyway. Ifum scanned the two for a moment before smiling at Oz, telling him to turn up later for a great feast. As she told him these words, she departed quickly and the fighting noises within the forest surrounding seemed to grow.
Some time passed and finally Alfreda backed off from Oz. Oz at this point in time was bandaged almost head to toe with enough potions in his system to heal anyone from the brink of death. After the healing session Oz was able to stand up on his own. Looking at Alfreda with gentle eyes he patted her on the head.
“Thank you for helping me there”.
“It’s what im here for master…”.
Oz looked over to where Ifum departed from with a dazed look in his eyes. Alfreda noticing her masters gaze spoke softly.
“Is there something on your mind?”.
Oz sighed as he began to voice his thoughts to Alfreda.
“I’m just… confused as to how Ifum is the gurg is all. She seems to have some level of intelligence and im sure she has a decent amount of strength to back herself too however the way she leads, the way she speaks, none of what she does has the ‘feeling’ of a leader. It feels as though she was randomly placed in that position. After all if she was a true leader of her tribe she would have trampled Golgomath at first chance however she instead let Golgomath get away with anything, seemingly scared of the ‘prodigy’”.
Talking about Golgomath Oz looked over at the corpse of the giant he had fought so desperately. Even though Golgomath was set to be a follower of Voldemort, Oz was still grateful towards the Golgomath in front of him. Not just because of the fact he now had a giants heart in his mitts but also because of how much experience with fighting he gained during the bloody battle. Not only that, he also managed to discover how to use his dragon blood to partially dragonise a part of himself which down the line could become incredibly handy when he gets a better hang of it.
“Alongside all this Karkus who I had heard to be the gurg was seemingly killed years ago and replaced with Ifum. It just all seems a bit weird…”.
Oz knew that somehow his existence in this world had led to this buŧŧerfly effect happening however he couldn’t pinpoint a ‘reason’ for it at all. Ifum was a completely new entity which had never appeared in the Harry Potter series canon at all and with her qualities that displayed how she wasn’t the ‘best’ leader it seemed strange that such a giant randomly took up the mantle of Gurg.
“I guess what’s done is done though. No use thinking about it too heavily now… Let’s get back to the tent and rest before this ‘feast’”.
Oz started to walk back towards the forest, Alfreda in tow, with his face still holding slight puzzlement towards the situation. However that puzzlement soon ceased and was replaced with a relaxed expression. He had done what he needed to do here, gathered what he wanted and even improved himself further beyond the limits of what he could do before. This trip to the giants tribe had been a success.
.
Night fell on the forest quicker than expected after Oz and Alfreda returned to camp. Mainly due to how long the fight between Oz and Golgomath actually ended up lasting despite how early it started in the day. Oz spent most of his time relaxing in his bed in the tent up to when it grew dark outside, allowing his wounds to heal.
With his dragon physique alongside the careful yet speedy tending from Alfreda, he healed up much faster than any normal person would have and as night creeped over of the forest he was practically fully healed internally. All that remained from the fight were the bruises that littered his body. His tattered clothing was fixed up by Alfreda who handed it back to him. Even though he placed a lot of defensive enchantments and such on these clothes it seemed to bȧrėly nullify the impact Golgomath had whenever his fist managed to collide into Oz.
Oz took off the spare clothing he had on and placed on the clothing he mainly travelled in. He thanked Alfreda for her work again and the two stepped out of the tent and out of the ward placed around it. As soon as they did they could hear the yells and cheers of giants towards the center of the forest.
“Looks like we will be fashionably late”.
Alfreda giggled hearing Oz’s quip as the two headed towards the center of the forest, towards the same location where Oz had just fought Golgomath earlier today. As they reached the clearing they saw the crowd of giants gathered again however instead of being gathered around the center where the arena was they were scattered around the clearing eating different food, sparring each other and drinking strong smelling booze.
(“The star of the show finally shows himself!”)
(“I brought my newborn to the fight and it saw your triumphant win! It only feels fitting that you name the baby, blessing it into being a fine warrior like yourself!”)
The giant didn’t seem to let up and was adamant about Oz naming her newborn baby. The father stood behind her with a smile on his face seemingly looking forward to the name Oz would give. Oz on the other hand who had just heard the translation from Alfreda seemed a bit distressed.
“I suck at giving names to things let alone to a newborn giant… what the hell kind of name do I give it?”.
Alfreda couldn’t help but laugh seeing her master in such a plight.
“Just name it whatever you feel fits right master… Most giants honestly don’t care about names unless its truly bad”.
Oz took a moment to think before telling Alfreda his first idea.
“This little ones name should be… Zeke”
Alfreda’s face instantly warped hearing her masters suggestion. Looking over at the expectant giant couple with their baby she bit her lip and decided to be honest with her master.
“That name… is definitely not going to work”.
Looking at Alfreda’s face that seemed as though she had just eaten something incredibly bitter Oz felt a sense of defeat. He started to list of more names and each time Alfreda seemingly struck them down telling Oz they were no good. The surrounding giants that saw Oz and Alfreda nearby the giant couple seemed to start pooling in curious at what was going on. Before long there was a decently sized crowd waiting for Oz to finally come up with a name for this new-born. In the giants eyes it seemed as though Oz was thinking hard as they couldn’t understand him however Alfreda knew the truth, the truth being if she didn’t step in this poor giant babies name would have been ‘Zeke’.
“Fine how about… Cronus”.
Alfreda who seemed to be primed to make a rebuttal stopped herself as she heard the name. Cronus had a good ring to it and was a reference to norse mythology in which a giant was named Cronus. Such a name that was related to a powerful giant in mythology was bound to be widely accepted by the giants. She turned her head away from Oz and told the giants the name Oz had decided to give this newborn.
(“Cronus… I… LIKE IT!”)
The couple seemed incredibly happy with their newborns new name and the cheers in the crowd erupted at the naming of the newborn giant. Oz heaved a sigh of relief as this name he gave finally landed with Alfreda and was good enough for the giants to be so jubilant… even if it did take many attempts.
The crowd dispersed after that little event and Oz headed directly for Ifum taking no detours this time worried that he would have to go through an ordeal like that again. Finally they arrived in front of Ifum who turned her attention away from her food and looked at both Oz and Alfreda.
(“You’ve finally arrived! Take a seat! Take a seat! There’s plenty of grub to go around!”)
There of course wasn’t actually a seat as Ifum was motioning Oz and Alfreda to both sit down on the floor like she was eating. They both obliged, sitting down and grabbing some of the food laid out before them. Alfreda picked out some raw meat and tapped Oz on the shoulder whispering in his ear.
“Master… I don’t think any of this food is edible for us…”.
Oz took a long look at the spread and noticed that Alfreda’s words were right on the money. Literally the entire spread was raw beast flesh amongst an abundance of other weird substances that when smelt immediately made Oz feel sick to his stomach. Noting this, Oz and Alfreda both decided to refrain from eating and planned on cooking a meal when they got back to their tent after this feast. Ifum on the other hand didn’t realise these humans couldn’t eat this food and took their neglect to eat as a sign that they were ‘already full’. Alfreda translated for herself and Oz stating that they weren’t hungry confirming Ifum’s ‘suspicions’. As she heard Alfreda’s words though, a lightbulb seemed to appear on her head as her eyes flashed in remembrance over something.
(“Ah, That reminds me!”).
Ifum stopped eating for a moment as she reached down to her side and picked up a small device. She passed this device over to Oz who looked at it in confusion. Using his eyes he scanned the device and reading the runes placed on it he immediately realised what it was.
“This is a… translator?! How the hell does Ifum have this?!”.
Alfreda asked Ifum about the origin of the translator and she simply replied.
(“One time when that little group of wizards came they interrupted an important event in our tribe. We killed a few of them in retaliation and scared them away from our forest for a while. On one of the corpses, the one little wizard that seemed to understand and even be able to talk to us was this device”)
Looking at the device a bit longer Oz started to realise how intricate its design was. It simply slipped over his ear and when activated it started to translate Ifum’s words as well as his own. Sadly for Oz however this translator only seemed to include ‘Giant’s lounge’ and no other languages. The runes inside the translator were already complex enough as it is so adding more languages to this device seemed impossible. Despite this though Oz was still pleased and thankful for this little device, with it he could use it as a reference to eventually craft his own.
‘The ‘little gathering of wizards’ that Ifum keeps mentioning has to be the Ministry here in Belarus. It’s not surprising that they would have a device like this developed considering how the giants reside so close to their capital and they need a way to form diplomatic relations with them…’.
(“Finally I can talk to you properly instead of through Alfreda”)
The translator was truly a magical device as when activated it automatically changed the words coming out of Oz’s mouth to giants tongue despite the fact that he felt like he was speaking English. Ifum hearing Oz’s voice smiled.
(“Yes, this is much better! Honestly I should have given this to you sooner however the thought slipped my mind during the excitement and anticipation of the battle”).
Oz for some reason didn’t buy this line of thinking and thought instead that Ifum didnt gift him this because she expected him to die in the fight against Golgomath. Giants were a big fan of magical things and this translator was something Ifum would have wanted to keep safe no matter what. Giving it to Oz whilst he fought would have guaranteed it being destroyed so in Oz’s eyes he could guess she probably decided to refrain giving him this little translator so as to keep it free from harm. With Oz unexpectedly winning however and killing her ‘rival’ to her position as Gurg, she now felt like she could give it to Oz with no repercussions.
With no language barrier now the feast continued at a good pace with Oz now being able to talk to Ifum without having to ask Alfreda constantly to translate. Talks continued on for a while between Oz, Alfreda and Ifum and the feast continued in full.
(“By the way Ifum, you mention this ‘little gathering of wizards’. Are you referring to the ministry here in Belarus”).
(“Ministry, Union, Tribe, Group whatever they want to call themselves its all the same. They always arrive here and act so cowardly, afraid of what we can do so I give them no respect”).
Oz pondered for a moment before deciding to ask Ifum an important question.
(“Do you know if anything has happened to that ‘little group of wizards’ recently? Anything of note at all”).
Ifum grabbed some more raw meat and sunk her teeth into it as she responded matter of factly to Oz’s question.
(“They are out of the country at the moment from what I understand”).
(“Out of country? The entire ministry?”)
Ifum swallowed a large amount of food and belched loudly as she looked down at Oz.
(“Well I’d imagine its not the entire group… there’s probably some still skulking around this forest keeping tabs on my tribe. However the vast majority has apparently gone to India alongside other little wizard groups for something”).
Hearing Ifum’s talk about how they could be monitoring outside the forest Oz realised then at that point his instinct in cloaking himself and Alfreda whilst looking for the true entrance to this place was a good move. If they didn’t cloak themselves they would have probably been spotted by the Belarus ministry remnants left here to survey this giant tribe. If that happened, a dispute or fight could have easily broken out.
(“What happened in India for so many wizarding ministries to have to travel there together?”).
Ifum lowered her food and looked at Oz solemnly for a moment. Her eyes grew serious as she spoke out.
(“A demon has appeared in India. News has only just managed to reach here and will probably be snubbed from reaching any further west unless they are in dire need of more help. We only bȧrėly caught wind of what’s happening due to a giant tribe located nearer to India gaining information and sending it over to us…”).
Oz and Alfreda looked at each other momentarily before both falling into contemplation. A demon was a broad term however whatever this demon was it was clear to them both that it was an incredibly dangerous being. Oz also found it interesting how there was a giant tribe located near India however hearing Alfreda’s words when they first arrived in the giants forest about beast tribes ‘contacting’ each other and having a sort of kinship, he wasn’t all to surprised at the prospect of this specific tribe having connections outside of this forest in Belarus. As Alfreda and Oz both thought about all of this, Ifum continued on whilst eating.
(“The tribe over there has only given us a few details however the Indian wizarding government sent out a plea of help towards all the countries located in a certain radius which is why most of Europe isn’t involved yet… If the threat isn’t quelled however I imagine this threat could end up becoming something worldwide”)
(“This so called demon is apparently supposed to be incredibly hard to catch. Its killing ability is immense and alongside that its even able to turn invisible at whim. All the little groups gathered in India are there to not only try and find this demon but also to discuss what to do in the event that this demon causes a worldwide panic if its influence spreads too far. Countless creatures and humans have already vanished due to this thing…”).
Oz looked at Ifum with growing confusion due to multiple things. The main being that in the canon story this event never occurred at all. Such a worldwide event should have cropped up somewhere but it didn’t. Oz could write it off simply as another buŧŧerfly effect again much like how Ifum was sat in front of him instead of Karkus however his brain couldn’t help but ponder how for a moment.
‘If this did happen in the canon world then maybe the threat was quelled before reaching into Europe. Alongside that this event coincides with Sirius black escaping Azkaban so the news in England would be more centered around that ‘threat’ instead of this one. Also England is out in the ocean unlike these countries which are all connected so even if the threat got to that Fudge’s ears he probably decided it was not worth mentioning at all…’.
(“Is there any sort of name given to this demon or is it just referred to as a demon by everyone involved?”).
Ifum who finally seemed full after eating so much leant towards Oz slowly.
(“I believe in India they are calling this demon a… Rakshasa”).
