The Yuhao Chronicles - Volume 1 Chapter 24
Yuhao slowly bobbed his head as he listened, trying to personally assess each idea. Each of the ideas were excellent and had many usages and benefits that could readily be seen.
“Hmm, it is tricky. If we approach this from the perspective of what I already have and what I need, we can conclude that the spirit eyes don’t need another skill at the moment. While being able to copy skills is very powerful and a great ability, it has a similar downside to the Blood Crystal Centipede we encountered, as it needs an enemy with a powerful skill to use effectively. This doesn’t take into account the many skills I already have that I have not gotten to practice with or use yet.”
“That does make sense,” Daydream commented, expressing her opinion.
“In regards to the FrostFire possible skills, there should be many spirit beasts that can give me a type of gravity-based skill. I know that many ape and bear species can do so. It would probably be smarter to wait for one of those, than use this rare opportunity. Regarding a modification ability, I am hardly skilled with the hammer-scythe weapon as it is, so being able to increase or decrease the size or weight of it will probably just cause more issues.”
Seeing Yuhao slowly take down their ideas one by one caused the spirit beasts to feel slightly down. Noticing the sombre atmosphere building, Yuhao quickly tried to correct it, “Guys, it is not that the ideas were bad. They all were terrific and something that I definitely need to look out for in the future. By suggesting these ideas means that you are not only invested in my future but are also looking for abilities that can help me in the long run. I really appreciate that!”
This impromptu compliment brought some smiles and nods to them. Happy that they are not downhearted, he continued, “Your idea for a space-based ability for my Steel Space Dragon is something that I am definitely on board with. I already have two total defence-based skill rings, and the space element is absolutely something that should not be ignored. There are several space-based skills I have been contemplating, with teleportation being one of them. Seeing as I have the opportunity to manipulate the egg and since we are assured in the ring achieving the one-hundred-thousand-year-old milestone, we can manipulate the skill to have a more complex ability.”
“That is a good idea,” Electrolux remarked. “Through this way, you will gain a movement skill which will synchronise well with your other spirits. It is a shame that you can’t use teleportation in a more offensive and defensive way”
This gave Yuhao some pause, “Who says you can’t?! That is an excellent idea. I was simply thinking of a standard teleportation ability with the more complex version of being able to teleport nearby people and objects without actually having to touch them. However, while that could be a good idea, it won’t provide me with a direct means to use the skill offensively or defensively. If instead of that, the skill provides me with the ability to create portals, not only will I be able to move around short and long distances, I will be able to use these portals to redirect attacks or launch surprise attacks from distances.”
All the conscious beings in his mindscape couldn’t help but agree with this idea. After a couple more minutes of refining the details behind the actual process behind manipulating the egg and the skill, he was ready.
“Well no time like the present,” Yuhao murmured to them, before exiting his mind. As he left he activated his Steel Space Dragon spirit and focused intensely on the space element within. While his spiritual detection skill could help in focusing on these finer details, Electrolux had warned him that for there to be no chance of interference or mutation aside from their planned results, he can’t use any other skills or spirits.
After thirty minutes of almost meditative-like concentration on the element, Yuhao reached over and brought the attribute-less python egg onto his lap. He took one long breath before slowly injecting spatial energy into the egg, keeping a clear, focused image and thought of the ability to create portals in his mind. To ensure the development went smoothly and the evolution did not occur too quickly or too slowly, Yuhao had to keep a constant pace of injection, which happened to match that of his natural replenishment. This slow process continued on for over six hours, with the day heading onto into the night.
Finally, the egg began shining. The egg slowly grew in size, from its previous size of five centimetres to a whopping twenty centimetres. Following the size increase, the shell also transformed, with its shell turning the same, radiant purple as that of the spatial energy within his spirit.
Seeing the success at undergoing the evolution, he began circulating his spirit power to prepare for absorbing the ring. Seeing as the egg is not even a year old, the coming absorption should be the easiest Yuhao will ever experience, but being who he is, he always ensures he is prepared and is never one to underestimate a possible enemy. In his past life, this was one quality that enabled him to complete the missions that others failed in accomplishing, and it was a quality he continued to follow in this world.
Assured in his preparation, Yuhao ruthlessly crushed the defenceless python egg in his hands. As soon as he did so, a barely transparent ring rose up from the remains. This just further emphasised the low age the egg had, seeing as it isn’t even strong enough to form a basic white spirit ring.
He controlled his spirit power to encompass it before assimilating it into his Steel Space Dragon spirit. In only four seconds, the absorption was complete, with Yuhao instantly receiving the name of the spirit beast and given skill; being a Portal Python and Portal Creation.
This was promptly followed by Daydream releasing her third origin essence seal, quickly bringing the cultivation age of the beast to the one-hundred-thousand-year-old milestone. This in turn, like the previous two beasts who underwent this rapid increase, spurned another evolution to occur. A spectre of the Portal Python appeared within Yuhao’s spiritual sea, showing the beast grow to reach ten metres in length, covered in vibrant purple scales. It also grew out two, sharp, scaled claws one third the way down its body, with two large bumps situated on it back. Following the second evolution, the beast’s name changed to Portal Wyrm and its skill upgrading to Portal Control.
Not someone that would pass up this golden opportunity to further strengthen his host through evolving his spirit beasts and rings, Amra manipulated his bloodline to trigger the final possible evolution. As his blood essence was absorbed into the Portal Wyrm’s spectre, it once again began shining and growing, this time growing to the massive size of forty metres and becoming proportionally wide. The two bumps on the beasts back grew and formed complete wings, with a multitude of its previously, purple scales, gaining a gold tinge. As the glow around the spectre faded, the final name of the beast entered Yuhao’s mind; Gold-Scaled Space Wyrm.
