The Yuhao Chronicles - Volume 1 Chapter 28
Over the next four days, Yuhao followed a strict daily plan of mostly cultivating and eating. During this time, he was able to raise his spirit rank one higher, reaching rank thirty-three. On the fourth day however as he was cultivating, he heard a loud bang, followed by his door to his room slamming open with incredible force. The air that was pushed away due to the door blew his hair and clothes a little.
As he looked to the doorway, a haughty youth walked in. The youth had a delicate appearance with very fair skin. ‘His’ features were quite feminine, with extremely unusual pinkish-blue eyes and shoulder-length hair. If Yuhao did not know the origins of this person, and the fact that they were dressed and disguised as the male gender, he would honestly believe that no male would ever be able to become as beautiful as them. (A/N: I will refer to Wang Dong in male vocabulary until she reveals her real gender to Yuhao, however, Yuhao’s thoughts will still refer to her as female.)
Yuhao wanting to kick the relationship off kindly smiled, stood up off his bed and stuck out his hand, “Hi, my name is Huo Yuhao. Are you my roommate?”
The youth, rather than greeting in return, coldly stared at him, “Step aside.”
Yuhao simply raised an eyebrow in reply without moving from his position. Noticing his roommates dismissal of his command, the youth tried to push past, only to fail, and was forced to squeeze between the gap of his roommate and the wall awkwardly. Satisfied with getting through, he looked back smugly at Yuhao only to be met with Yuhao’s own smirk at the childishness situation.
The youth frowned slightly, before stating the sentence of demands he has been preparing to say for weeks, “You also live in this dorm room, I assume. Since you’ve cleaned this room up so well, I’ll allow you to live with me for now. I have a few rules that you must remember: One, you’re not allowed to randomly bring other people back to this room. Two, you’re not allowed to bare your disgusting n.a.k.e.d body in this room. Three, you’re not allowed to sno- ”
Yuhao chuckled, cutting him off, only to receive a sharp glare from the youth before he continued.
“Three, you’re not allowed to snore at night. Four, you’re not allowed to bother me. Five, you’re in charge of the cleanliness of this room in the future, but you can’t touch my bed. Do you understand clearly?”
Yuhao raised the other eyebrow this time, causing way more agitation in the youth then he could know. He simply shrugged at the unreasonable demands before turning and returning to his bed, ‘Wow, she is so arrogant. Hopefully, she eases up soon.’
Seeing once again his roommate’s complete dismissal of his orders, the youth angrily stomped his foot before declaring, “My name is Wang Dong. If you do not listen to me, I will throw you out of here!”
Hearing his roommate declaring their intent to fight, Yuhao couldn’t back down, not knowing how big of an advantage he has over the other party. “If you want to fight, then let’s fight. Let’s go outside, right now.”
Wang Dong quickly spun on the spot before walking out of the room and dormitory without looking back. Yuhao swiftly followed after, excited for his first proper fight.
As they walked a small distance away from the dormitory building, the stopped in a large empty space. From all of his experience as an accomplished individual in the air and space force back on Earth, he knew that the first move shows a lot about an individual and to not be too arrogant no matter who you face as one error can make a huge difference.
Preparing for the fight, Yuhao released his Spirit Eyes stealthily, immediately hiding the glow as he did before, and followed it up by summoning his Steel Space Dragon. As he did, Wang Dong went bug-eyed for a split-second as he realised that he had been totally underestimating his opponent seeing the one yellow and two purple rings appearing below his roommate’s feet.
(A/N: I won’t be mentioning that Yuhao is releasing his Spirit Eyes and using the Spiritual Deception skill in any more fights as it will get very repetitive and boring. Until I intently specify, every time he releases his spirits around people he will be using his spiritual deception skill to hide his ring’s real ages.)
The old man, Mu En, who’d been leaning on the chair at the dormitory’s entrance raised his head slightly. A gleam of curiosity flashed through his faint yellow eyes as he gazed at the two freshman students, particularly Huo Yuhao. Over the last couple of days, he had been constantly surprised by how hard of a worker the boy was and had noticed that he had managed to achieve a breakthrough into the thirty-third rank.
Attempting to still sound confident, Wang Dong spoke up, “Don’t think just because you have three rings that you will beat me.”
As he finished this statement, a pair of blue butterfly wings suddenly sprouted from his back. The tips of each wing unceasingly changed between deep blue, azure and light blue, while the surface of each wing was similar to a bright, radiant, cloud-free morning. Its shape and colour were incomparably and flawlessly beautiful.
Yuhao nodded admirably, “Radiant Butterfly Goddess? The continent’s most beautiful butterfly martial soul? This will be interesting.”
Wang Dong paused and took a sharp intake of breath expecting Yuhao to say something else about the spirit, however seeing him finish speaking he calmed down.
Yuhao interestingly watched as one yellow and one purple spirit ring appeared at Wang Dong’s feet. He could not perfectly remember what Wang Don’s spirit rings did, skill-wise, but he was confident in his spirit’s defence.
At this thought, Wang Dong left foot tapped the ground. His body quickly shot towards Yuhao’s with his butterfly wings flapping behind him, further boosting his speed. Not only was Wang Dong fast, but he also had an abnormal agility inside his movement, that Yuhao easily recognised as the Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track.
He arrived in front of Yuhao’s chest ready to kick him in the blink of an eye, only to have the whole attack only cause Yuhao to take a small step back. Yuhao looked curiously at his chest as he was definitely interested in how much power was behind the kick for it to have so little effect.
Wang Dong continued his actions, striking several other areas including his head, arms and legs, while only causing Yuhao a slight discomfort. Yuhao, during this process, was attempting to block these attacks using his conventional military fighting techniques. However, he found that they were of very little use due to the ability of spirit masters, especially agility-type spirit masters such as Wang Dong, to exceed the previously defined human limits that existed back on Earth.
Holding a newfound determination to seek out Tang Ya and Bei Bei in order to get access to the Tang Sect’s techniques, Yuhao stopped trying to defend using his techniques and simply stood in his position and accepted the little to no damage being done to him. Wang Dong finished up the combination with a kick to the face that temporarily blocked his vision.
When Yuhao looked back to observe his opponent, he noticed that he was beginning to release his first spirit ring. Just to be safe, Yuhao also used a spirit ring, activating his War Beast’s Blessing skill. He could subconsciously sense that his physical and elemental resistances had increased by a further 50%, on top of the natural resistance provided by his spirit, bloodline and current physique.
Wang Dong finished activating his first, yellow, spirit ring, which caused his butterfly wings to sharpen considerably, almost looking like 4 large, flat swords, sticking out from his back. He once again charged, however this time instead of kicking out with his foot, he controlled his wings to point towards Yuhao’s body, facing each of his four limbs.
Not wanting to risk the potential damage, Yuhao quickly used his first ring’s, Shell Guardian skill, materializing a solid, black, turtle shield in front of him that collided hard with Wang Wong’s stomach and chest, causing his arms and legs to continue moving forward slightly, looking like he was attempting to hug the shield. Hitting the shield, all of Wong Dong’s torso momentum was instantly halted, and the force of his own agility was promptly returned back to him as blunt force, due to the collision.
This defensive manoeuvre succeeded much better than he expected, as Yuhao had no idea that the shield would remain stationary in the air as it did. The shield remained stationary in the air at an equivalent cost of spirit power compared to the force pushed against it. The surprise move had completely winded Wang Dong as well and forced him to bend over on the floor, to catch his breath.
Back in the Clear Sky Clan, Wang Dong had trained in some of the main Tang Sect arts entrusted to them by Tang San himself. Even though he had participated in mock battles and sought out real fights, every one of his opponents had explicitly avoided injuring him, lest they anger the two Sect Master’s who were very protective over him. So while Yuhao’s skill hadn’t done any real damage, the impact and subsequent total escape of air from his lungs completely shocked him and made him forget that he was in a battle.
After half a minute to recover, Wang Dong realised that he was in a fight still. Quickly looking up at his opponent, he witnessed Yuhao extending his hand out to help him up.
Seeing the confusion on his downed opponents face, he stated, “While I couldn’t say that was the greatest fight ever, I still did enjoy it. I promise to respect your privacy and comforts as a roommate, and hopefully as a friend, however, I won’t solely take responsibility for the cleanliness of the room. The room is both of our responsibilities, and it is not something I will compromise on.”
Wang Dong looked a little shocked at his words before he smiled and accepted the hand, pulling himself up to just a few inches below Yuhao’s height, “Deal.”
