The Yuhao Chronicles - Volume 1 Chapter 30
Zhou Yi’s expressionless gaze turned from Yuhao to the rest of the student body as she said, “Cheng Cheng, Qiu Jianrao, Tang Dao, Shangguan Chentian, Lin Zeyu, Zhuge Yun, Tai Long, Tang Ling, and Yun Xiaopiao. You all did not complete the full one hundred laps stated by me. I don’t care for your excuses as to why you deemed it appropriate or intelligent to try and cheat the task. You nine can go pack your luggage and leave the academy. The outer academy elder has already been notified of you no longing holding a placement within the academy.”
All of the students in the group exclaimed loudly, however, the nine offenders were completely astonished. Seeing one such offender about to complain, Zhou Yi repeated herself. “I know you all did not complete the task, with you either walking laps before I arrived outside or simply stopped running before you reached one hundred. The academy does not need students who are full of tricks. So, as I said, go pack your bags and leave.”
To further emphasise her seriousness, she released her spirit power on the students, focusing mainly on the offenders. This act only further reinforced the need for the rest of the students to follow her instruction to the letter in the future. The nine offenders not wanting to be put under the intense pressure any longer, quickly scurried off back to the dormitories.
Zhou Yi waiting a couple of minutes for the rest of the students to regain some of their energy, before quickly notified them to get changed and meet her back in the classroom in fifteen minutes.
Fifteen minutes later, Yuhao and Wang Dong just managed to return to the classroom, having taken longer to do so, given the need for Wang Dong to change his clothes after Yuhao, for ‘personal’ reasons. As they sat down in the same seat as previously, Zhou Yi moved to the front of the classroom. She then said, “Hopefully this morning will have given you a good idea of what to expect for the rest of your time here at Shrek. While I may be harsh, I am not unfair. If you continue to work hard and follow instructions, then you will not be like the majority of students in the past who are sent away.”
She once again looked around the room, looking into the eyes of each student for signs of rebellion. Satisfied, she continued on with her lecture. “Huo Yuhao, please stand up.”
“Yes, Teacher Zhou?” Yuhao quickly asked.
In return, Zhou said, “Announce your spirit rank and martial spirit.”
He nodded. “My spirit rank is currently thirty-three and my martial spirit is a Steel Space Dragon.”
This completely shocking information caused every single student but Wang Dong to audibly gasp. Most of the students had only just reached the fifteenth or sixteenth rank, and only a select few, such as Wang Dong, breaking through to the twentieth rank. With Yuhao having a dragon-type beast spirit on top of that, which is widely accepted as producing the strongest spirit masters, in the eyes of every student there, he was a certifiable monster.
Zhou Yi nodded in his direction, indicating for him to sit down again. “Correct, he is extremely talented however even he, if he doesn’t work hard and follow instructions will be staying in the academy.” Resting her gaze back on him, she continued, “I do not believe I will have to worry seeing his current rank. No amount of talent will allow someone to reach that rank unless they are extremely focused and determined on cultivating daily.”
Turning around she wrote two words on the blackboard, Attack and Defence. After writing the two words out on the blackboard, she turned back to face the students once again. “I know that a majority of you are very unhappy because of the punishment I gave to you earlier, as well as the expulsion of those nine people. Only, you don’t dare to show it because of my pressure. I have no need to give you any explanations. People who are perceptive will naturally understand my reasoning in the future. As for the idiots who can’t understand, it’s fine for them to not understand. We will now start class.”
She began slowly pacing as he explained, “You should all recognise the two words that I’ve just written on the blackboard. ‘Attack’, and ‘Defence’. For our first class today, I’ll talk to you about the attacking and defending techniques that spirit masters use. Since ancient times, we spirit masters have been split into many different systems based off of our innate martial spirit, such as the Power Attack System, the Agility Attack System, the Auxiliary System, the Food System, the Control System, the Defence System, and so on. Some spirit masters develop their abilities towards an extreme of one system, while others develop their abilities equally in multiple. The various number of methods to cultivate is by no means an isolated path.”
She stopped pacing as she opened a question to the room, “Of the various systems that spirit masters fall into, which is the best at attacking, and which should lean towards defence and auxiliary, or support?”
One bold student excitedly stood up immediately, hoping to show off his knowledge and earn some favourability from the teacher. Without waiting for her to allow him to speak, he unhesitatingly replied, “Naturally, assault, agility, and control system spirit masters are inclined towards attacking, while auxiliary, food, and defence system soul masters are inclined towards defence. Huo Yuhao will be one such spirit master who will be heavily inclined towards defence.”
Both Yuhao and Wang Dong sighed and shook their head at this reply. Wand Dong, before fighting Yuhao yesterday would have spoken almost the exact same answer if asked, but now that he had been beaten up by a shield, he was much more open to versatility in combat styles.
Zhou Yi spoke with no trace of politeness, using her spirit force to push the kid back into his chair, “That was a stupid answer.”
Noticing Wang Dong’s movement, she said, “What do you think was wrong with his answer, Wang Dong.”
Slightly startled at being called out, he stood up and stated, “A lot of spirits can be used in extremely versatile ways, so limiting a martial spirit to one aspect of combat will hinder the spirit master’s potential. In Huo Yuhao’s case, if his defence is strong that means that his resistance is high, and he will be able to perform physical attacks as well. This doesn’t include the fact that soul tools exist now.”
Zhou Yi nodded. “Correct. Now let’s talk about soul tools.”
Yuhao, even though he saw a benefit in soul tools for those individuals who are close in cultivation rank, found no need to use them for himself. His cultivation speed was immense and if he is given a little bit of time after meeting an enemy who is at a similar cultivation rank to him or higher, will allow him to face the opponent easily. Yuhao being able to face higher ranked opponents stems from a combination of his three martial spirits, bloodline, spirit bones, spiritual energy and physique.
After Zhou Yi talked for another hour, she finally said, “Today’s morning class will end here. I recommend that you eat a proper lunch. Your training will start this afternoon. Huo Yuhao, follow me to the office for a bit.”
The class remained silent until Zhou Yi had walked out of the classroom. A majority of the people there were immersed in what Zhou Yi had said. Although this Teacher Zhou didn’t follow the rules of common sense, they had no choice but to agree that her words made a lot of sense.
Huo Yuhao stood up and followed Zhou Yi out. Besides the office buildings that were located behind the purple and black teaching buildings, there was also a simplistic office located within every school building.
Huo Yuhao followed Zhou Yi to the office, which was close to the classroom. Zhou Yi motioned for him to shut the door, while she proceeded to sit behind an office desk. Although she looked old, her movements didn’t appear elderly at all.
Looking into his eyes, she said, “Huo Yuhao, I don’t like to beat around the bush. What do you want to get out of staying here at Shrek? I noticed you were not paying full attention during my lecture on soul tools, so I would like to ask why.”
Yuhao took a moment to think about it before replying, “While I do understand that soul tools can be very beneficial to a spirit master and their overall strength, not to be arrogant, but I believe with my cultivation speed and my Steel Space Dragon spirit, I don’t have to worry about using them to beat my opponents. I would much rather put more effort into increasing my rank and increasing my internal fighting abilities and skills, than practising using an external tool that I will quickly grow out of.”
