The Yuhao Chronicles - Volume 1 Chapter 32
Seeing Yuhao let go of his martial spirit, Zhou Yi jumps up onto her feet and pulls him off the ground. She pats her clothes down, before saying, “Well that was better. Much better than your basic fighting techniques. You have a good grasp of your three given skills. From what you showed me, seeing as you used your second skill first that would be a basic attribute boosting effect?”
Yuhao nodded.
“Then your first ring would be that weird black shield? That was used quite well to surprise me. There are many ways you could have used it during the situation however at least you have a good idea and control over it. Finally, there was that last skill? It seemed like a portal-based ability. Could you explain?”
Yuhao thought for a second, before nodding and explaining the Portal Control skill. He knew that his teacher was trustworthy and that she would only do what is best for him. That certainty existed in the original timeline, which would only be further boosted with the subconscious familiarity between Yuhao’s bloodline and her feline-type species.
After Yuhao explained his skills ability to her, she couldn’t help but pause as she rapidly calculated the multitude of scenarios the skill had its uses for. It was a skill that provided a travelling technique, defensive technique, ranged attacking technique and also many close combat applications all wrapped into one.
Zhou Yi’s face turned serious as she spoke, “Yuhao, my tasks for you for this semester is two things. Firstly, practice controlling your portal skill. That skill has so much potential, it is quite horrifying. I may be wrong, however, if you can practice and speed up the creation of the portal, then the strength of that skill will be even greater.”
Yuhao wholeheartedly agreed on this statement. While he did know of many of its uses and some of the possibilities the skill could be used for, the fight showed him that it was quite broken. The actual teleportation of people costs no spirit power in and of itself, with the spirit power cost coming from the initial activation of the portal, sustaining the portal in its activated form, moving the portal around and stabilising the portal from external chaotic spirit power fluctuations.
Zhou Yi continued speaking after ensuring he acknowledged her first task, “Secondly, drastically improve your fighting ability. This is the basic goal for this academy and without being able to hold your own in a fight, any other breakthroughs and milestones are worthless. I would highly recommend that you apply soul tools into your fighting capabilities. However, if you still decide to continue down the path you have told me, you will have to work extremely hard, much harder than you already have been. If you don’t show drastic improvement, more so if you were to perform with soul tools, I will either have to enforce the usage of these tools or have you removed from the academy.”
Yuhao nodded, quickly. This was already something he had planned to do. He definitely agreed that if he was unable to make the same improvements internally as if were to achieve externally through soul tools, then the foundation behind that decision would become invalid. “I certainly agree with you, Teacher Zhou.”
Seeing a perfect opportunity being presented to him, Yuhao questioned her, “May I ask if you know any locations or groups that would be able to provide me with techniques to improve my fighting ability?”
Zhou Yi brushed her chin in thought, ‘Well there is the general Shrek Library. Even with his cultivation talent, without a strong combat potential, I wouldn’t be able to convince the elders to let him into the inner court library. Are there any other places?…”
As the silence continued on for over a minute, Zhou Yi’s had a sudden epiphany, ‘How could I forget cute little Tang Ya.’
Turning to back from the direction of the third year dormitories that she had subconsciously begun looking at, she replied to Yuhao, “Yes. There is a general library that would offer you several techniques. While these won’t be the strongest, they are still quite powerful when compared to the techniques spread by other, less historical sects. However, if you are willing to join a sect, I have the perfect idea.”
Hoping her idea is the same as his goal, he happily replied, “If they have the ability to improve my abilities, more so than the general library than how could I reject the opportunity without at least hearing of it.”
Pleased that he is open to the possibility, she began, “Well, there are two students that I know. One is the current Sect Leader of the famous Tang Sect, with the other being the current Vice-Leader. While the sect isn’t as famous and powerful as they once were, they still have access to the same legendary techniques that their founder, Tang San, created. If you are looking for techniques, and are willing to join a sect for them, this is your best bet.”
A wide smile instantly took over Yuhao’s face. Zhou Yi believed it was because he was going to possibly join the famous Tang Sect, and while somewhat true, it was also for how convenient the whole situation was becoming. Deciding to push his luck a little bit more, he asked, “Would you be able to introduce me? I don’t think the sect leader would be very receptive of me randomly and openly asking for entry into their sect.”
Zhou Yi nodded. Her serious and strict face eased up a little. Her strict and domineering persona was a means for her to ensure she is treated respectfully. With Yuhao now following her suggestion, her favourability for him increased further.
“Yes, that is doable. We will have to head over there right now. They would about to be leaving their morning class and if we don’t catch them then, we will have to wait for tomorrow. Let us go.” Zhou Yi stated, before walking off at a brisk pace.
As they walked towards the third-year classroom, they happened to pass by the first-year dormitories. This gave Yuhao an idea, “Teacher Zhou, would it be possible to bring Wang Dong with us? He could also use fighting techniques and over the last three days, I did manage to get the idea that he would be willing to join a sect.”
Zhou Yi thought on what she knew about the student before agreeing. “Yes, you can go get him. I won’t be able to guarantee his entry into the sect, he will still be able to come along and be introduced. You, on the other hand, I feel confident in them allowing you in. You have the cultivation talent that they are looking for, and while we haven’t interacted much as student and teacher, I believe I have a very good grasp of your character.
Receiving affirmation, Yuhao thanked his teacher before ducking into the dormitory. Without really thinking due to his eagerness to join and get access to the Tang Sect techniques, Yuhao simply opened his room’s door without knocking first. As the door opened all the way, Yuhao witnessed Wang Dong bending over pulling up a new set of pants, causing his roommate to freeze at being discovered. He caught a glimpse of his roommates’ pink underwear which momentarily shocked him before he snapped out of it. He knew that his roommate was a female, so Yuhao had no idea why he had this reaction. He quickly shut the door and stood awkwardly outside waiting for Wang Dong to finish getting changed. A couple of seconds later, the door opened only to see a figure step out and punch him in the shoulder roughly, but not aggressively or distastefully.
“That’s what you get for not knocking.” Wang Dong unhappily said.
Yuhao rubbed his arm as an immediate response, even though he barely felt it. As he did so he said, “Yeah, Yeah. Zhou Yi is going to introduce me to the current sect and vice sect leader of the Tang Sect. I asked, and she allowed me to bring you along as well. Come on.” Finishing saying what he wanted to say, he eagerly began running back into the direction of Zhou Yi.
Wang Dong just stood in the same spot. Yes, she was excited to be introduced to the sect that one of the ancestors of her clan created. She already knew several of their techniques and this would be a perfect cover for her knowledge. However, she couldn’t help but feel funny inside when Yuhao brushed off seeing her not fully clothed. Not entirely sure why she felt like this and what the exact feelings are, she shook the incident off and ran in the same direction as her roommate.
