The Yuhao Chronicles - Volume 1 Chapter 37
Immediately after the purple portal disappeared from the lake’s edge, in the distance, more than ten silhouettes could be seen coming from the depths of Sea God Lake at an astonishing speed. It only took a couple of seconds for them to arrive at the shore.
After ensuring that no student was injured or even nearby, in the area where they felt a fight happening, they went to look for the culprit. The leader of the group, a white-clothed old man released his spirit power in his surroundings. As it spread out into the Sea God’s Lake below, he quickly disappeared from his position, only to reappear two seconds later holding the still, slightly frozen, Ma Xiaotao in his hand.
The old man had a shocked look on his face as he held her unconscious body. He injected some of his spirit power into her body, dragging out the small amount of water that she had swallowed as well as dissipating the thin layer of ice around her.
“She seems to have been frozen and knocked unconscious by someone. By the looks of it, the ice was only used to contain the evil fire energy that is inside her and it has done a remarkable job.” The old man said as he observed her energies using his spirit power.
“Have another look around the area for any traces of who is responsible.” The old man said to two of the people there. “The rest of us are heading back.”
The last words were directed towards the other seven people there. He carried the unconscious, red-clad, Ma Xiaotao with him, and as his silhouette flickered, he turned into a ray of white light as he headed back towards the depths of Sea God Lake, where the Sea God Pavilion and Inner Court are located.

Back in the outer court freshman dorms, Wang Dong was still looking at Yuhao in complete and utter shock. He was sputtering out sounds as if to say something however could never complete the word.
Yuhao on the receiving end of this look couldn’t help but scratch his head and chuckle awkwardly.
“So yeah, that happened.” Yuhao said, trying to get the conversation that was undoubtedly going to happen started.
“What?…” His roommate managed to get out. “How…”
Yuhao smiled humorously, “Well, obviously I have a second martial spirit.”
Seeing him trying to be so mysterious and messing with him, Wang Dong awakened from his shock, “I know that, idiot!” he blushed at his outbreak before calming himself and clarifying, “I was obviously meaning what was that spirit you used and why are you only showing it now?”
Huo Yuhao nodded understandingly, “Ah I see. Well, the spirit is called FrostFire. A tool-type spirit with equal affinities of both fire and ice. As for the reason why I am showing the spirit now, it is that I not only trust you, but I need to practice using it. Now that you know, I can use it for any mock fights we have.”
“Mock fights?” Wang Dong questioned.
“Ah yeah, that was something I was planning on asking you. Now that we are both apart of the Tang Sect, there are so many techniques that we need physical practice for. I was thinking that either every day or every second day, we should have mock fights together to improve our usage of them,” Yuhao said.
His roommate nodded, “That does seem like a good idea. But hey, don’t think I will forget about what just happened. You just beat up someone!”
“I know. I know. We can talk about this later. For now, we must get to class or we will be late. Our sight-seeing walk took longer than we planned.” Yuhao replied, only earning a huff in response from his roommate before they both heading towards the freshman’s school building.
Several hours later, the afternoon class was finished. Compared to Zhou Yi’s class the day before, today’s classes were, from the student’s perspectives, extremely relaxed. They were not forced to run hundreds of laps, they were not forced to use weights, and they weren’t even forced to leave their seats at any time during the classes.
Both their morning and afternoon classes were on theory, with the morning class being centred on the classification of martial souls, using several students as examples for the difference between beast-type and tool-type. Body spirits were mentioned and explained however, from what the teacher knew, there was no body-type spirit master in their class and therefore, no examples were shown.
While Yuhao, like nearly every student in the class, already knew the theory on martial spirit classification, the afternoon was about distinguishing a soul beast’s age. This was a topic that he, unlike the other students who already knew it, paid attention to. This was because he was never taught this information during the six years he lived in the Duke’s mansion or the four in Soutuo City. Likewise, he also didn’t have any solid information about the topic from the original books when he read them back on Earth.
While the single lesson didn’t explain every single way to estimate a spirit beasts age, he was much more confident in doing so himself without the constant need to rely on his conscious spirit beasts for help. Yuhao was someone who didn’t like to rely exclusively on other people, so any knowledge he can gain to avoid having to do so was greatly appreciated by him.
As Yuhao and Wang Dong were making their way back to their room to cultivate, a certain person in a secret room, located on the central island of the Sea God Lake, gradually woke up from her unconscious state.
“Ugh” The red-dressed woman’s body moved a bit. She subconsciously hugged her body with her hands as she muttered, “Why is it so cold? It’s too unbearable huh?” Ma Xiaotao quickly sat up in confusion and surprise. “I’m cold? How is that possible?”
She jumped off the bed she’d been laying on and took off the mask covering her face, revealing a somewhat pale, oval-shaped face. She looked to be about twenty or so, with her facial expression being slightly cold. However, it was still unable to conceal her beauty, which was peerless enough that it could move one’s heart and make a man drool. As she stood there, she exposed her stimulating figure which resembled a ripened peach.
“You’re awake.” An aged voice rang out, before letting out a long sigh. “Xiaotao, you almost made a huge mistake this time! You could have seriously hurt or even killed someone. I don’t know whether or not it was destiny, but an otherworldly ice-type energy surged into your body, settling the evil fire within your body. Can you remember anything you saw after you charged out from Sea God Lake?”
This aged voice belonged to the same exact white-clothed old man who found and brought her back from the Sea God’s Lake. When she heard his question, the red-shirted girl, who was named Xiaotao, blankly shook her head. “I don’t remember anything except for a patch of red appearing in front of me. After that, I think I heard a phoenix cry? I tried to wake up, but after that, I woke up here.”
The white-clothed elder furrowed his brow and walked up to her. He spoke in a low voice, “Why didn’t you tell me that you couldn’t suppress the evil fire within your body? Aren’t you aware that you almost caused a calamity? If any of the students were around, they would not have been able to defend themselves.”
Xiaotao was dazed. “I I didn’t know that it would be this serious. I thought that I could control it. But.”
The white-clothed elder let out a long sigh before saying, “The longer you suppress it, the stronger it’ll be when it erupts. Xiaotao, from now on, postpone your cultivation. Even if you’re the most outstanding genius Shrek Academy has had in the past several hundred years, you can’t destroy yourself for the sake of the school. If the evil fire destroys your consciousness in the future, your teacher will regret it for the rest of his life.”
Xiaotao stubbornly replied, “No, teacher. I want to cultivate. I guarantee that it won’t happen again in the future. I can even feel that the evilness and heat from the evil fire have been suppressed considerably. I don’t know how that has happened but there definitely won’t be any problems soon. It’s just what kind of power was actually able to suppress my Evil Phoenix Fire, not to mention make me feel cold?”
The white-clothed elder spoke with a thoughtful tone, “It’s an extreme, peak-level ice-type energy. Its purity must exceed that of your Evil Phoenix Fire by a fair margin. All I can think of is the Absolute Frost Breath of the Ancient Ice Dragons, however, we haven’t heard of any students having that spirit ever. It’s completely suppressed the Evil Phoenix Fire’s effects on your body, far more than any of the methods we’ve used so far.”
Xiaotao asked with a doubtful tone, “Could it be someone who’s infiltrated the academy? Would you not have known if one such student entered the academy normally?”
The white-clothed elder shook his head and said, “I’ve already sent some people to investigate. While there are many students and teachers with ice-type martial souls, we do not have any peak-level ice-type martial spirits that could do something like this. It’s truly strange.”
Xiaotao replied, “Teacher, forget about it. You don’t need to continue investigating it.”
The white-clothed elder spoke, “This matter concerns your future, how could I not continue investigating? If I can at least find the person who possesses this ice-type martial soul, and if he turns out to be male, I’ll let you be a couple with him. That way, you’ll be able to neutralise the negative effects brought about by the Evil Phoenix Fire within your body. That’s the only way that you can truly soar into the heavens in the future. However, right now, you’re completely restricted. Not only has your cultivation speed decreased, even your life’s at risk.”
Xiaotao’s charming face went red. “I don’t want to get married, much less to a person I don’t like for the sake of his martial spirit!”
The white-clothed elder sighed. “The problem is your evil fire can’t be restrained! It could either be that or you die!”
Xiaotao hmphed and replied, “I’ll restrain it. I don’t want to marry anyone!”
The white-clothed elder said angrily, “Ma Xiaotao, if you continue to be this unruly, I won’t recognise you as a disciple anymore.”
When Ma Xiaotao saw that the white-clothed elder was angry, she immediately began to behave. She proceeded to speak in an aggrieved tone, “But, teacher I.”
The white-clothed elder rubbed her head. “Foolish girl. Your emotions can be cultivated, but you only have one life to live, let alone how much talent you have. No matter what, a teacher will make sure that you find a good partner.”
Ma Xiaotao turned her head shyly as she witnessed how much her teacher cared for her. The old man noticed this and couldn’t help but smile, “I think you should go back and rest. Even though the effects have ended, you still need to restore your strength and recover from the toll it took on your psyche.
She nodded wordlessly and laid back down on the bed. Not even seconds later she fell asleep, which just goes to show how tired her body and mind really were.
