The Yuhao Chronicles - Volume 1 Chapter 38
In no time at all, the first three months of Yuhao’s time as a freshman had passed. During these three months, Yuhao and Wang Dong had respectively broken through to the spirit ranks of thirty-six and twenty-eight.
Every second night, outside of cultivating rigorously to achieve the astonishing results that they have achieved, the two roommates sparred in the middle of the Shrek Plaza. During these times they practised activating their spirit skills in conjunction with the new Tang Sect techniques that they have learnt. The two have also had a few spars outside of the academy, where Yuhao was able to use and practice fighting with his FrostFire spirit.
During the times when they sparred in the Shrek Plaza, Zhou Yi had on occasion stopped them to give them advice on how to improve their fighting abilities and combat awareness. She had also once allowed them to fight against her in a two versus one situation, which allowed Yuhao and Wang Dong to improve their teamwork and coordination.
Due to Yuhao being both mentally older and having a much larger mental sea, which has direct effects on a user’s processing and comprehension abilities, he was able to improve his combat abilities at a much faster rate than Wang Dong. This resulted in Wang Dong pouting and complaining about the unfairness of Yuhao’s talent constantly, while also trying even harder in his cultivation and during their spars to attempt to slow the gap in their talents.
Currently, Yuhao was already at the detailed realm in the purple demon eye technique and was able to use it to not only increase his time perception, slowing everything down and allow him to reaction faster, but also allow him to see other people’s spirit power levels, provided the spirit power of the target is lower than his own.
Furthermore, he has also gained an intermediate proficiency in each of the other three sect techniques, being the Mysterious Jade Hands, Controlling Crane Catching Dragon and Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track. Additionally, recognising the potential of the Mysterious Jade Hands technique, Yuhao has begun attempting to perform this technique across his whole body. So far, he hasn’t even achieved a basic proficiency over this Mysterious Jade Body technique, due to the large concentration requirements needed to actively use the skill when moving.
In regards to Yuhao’s Class One, under Zhou Yi’s extremely strict teaching, the whole class has collectively shown substantial physical, mental and spiritual growth. The entire upper echelon of the academy was surprised when they discovered that her class still had over fifty per cent of its original student count, which was a far cry from the average thirty-per cent leftover from previous years.
This drastic change, if you were to ask any of the students or Zhou Yi herself, was simply due to the drive and motivation in improving oneself that Yuhao’s own determination and hard work creates. While this number was seen as amazing for everyone else, Yuhao couldn’t help but question why the number was almost twenty less than in it should have been. However, as he thought on the issue, he discovered the obvious reason why.
In the original story, Yuhao was the most hardworking and determined individual in the class, while also being the weakest in terms of talent and cultivation. This allowed all the students to feel determined to likewise improve themselves. In his own case, while his determination caused over fifty per cent of the students to work much harder than they were originally planning, those with the poorest talents or the most weak-willed students were unable to improve under the mountain of talent and strength that was Yuhao.
“As of today, three months have passed since you started school. You’re all about to face your first assessment since entering Shrek Academy. If you pass this examination, you’ll formally become first-year students, and will truly become students of Shrek Academy. If nothing unexpected happens, you’ll be able to continue cultivating within the academy until your first-year graduation exam at the very least. The assessment will begin tomorrow, so I’d first like to discuss the main points of the assessment.”
It was rare for Zhou Yi’s voice to be as soft as it was. As she swept her gaze across the fifty-three students beneath her, she was actually extremely pleased with them. Perhaps the quality of this batch of students might not be stronger than the previous batch of students, outside of Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong who far surpassed any student she had taught, but after three months of teaching, their willpower absolutely surpassed any previous year’s group that Zhou Yi had taught.
“Huo Yuhao.” Zhou Yi spoke out.
“Present.” Huo Yuhao respectfully replied, as he instantly stood up from his chair.
Zhou Yi beckoned towards Yuhao, causing him to hurriedly walk towards the teaching platform and take a stack of papers from her. He didn’t need Zhou Yi to tell him what to do, as he quickly handed them out to every single student in the class.
Zhou Yi said, “After the freshmen assessment ends, your classes will be in line with your abilities. Write down the direction you wish for your future cultivation to go and give it back to me later.”
The directions she was referring to, were the Assault, Defence, Control, and Auxiliary categories. These were the four types of spirit masters. During the first three months of teaching, everyone would be together in the same class. However, once the true first-year classes had started, everyone had to be separated. After all, the difference in cultivation paths between spirit masters from different categories was extremely large.
After Yuhao returned to his seat, he took to thinking what the best path was for him to focus on. From the perspective of the other students in his class and Zhou Yi, his path would undoubtedly be Defence. This would come from his Steel Space Dragon spirit and the insane potential for the defence system it had. This spirit by itself also had both attacking and control capabilities, if you consider not only his current portal skill, but the other skills he could in the future come to possess.
Moreover, Yuhao also had two other spirits and a bloodline, which all were quite versatile and had many current and potential future skills that crossed over into other categories of development. His bloodline and spirit eyes mainly leaned towards the control route, while his FrostFire spirit leaned heavily towards the attacking route. If Yuhao pursued any one of these three routes, he would quite comfortably be able to dominate the other spirit masters in his category.
Yuhao continued to think of all the different aspects of the decision before finally deciding. As he couldn’t find a route he was inclined to pursue when considering all of his spirits, he thought on the actions and behaviours an individual in each category would be expected to take. While he could still see himself in each category, the Control System stood out just a little bit more.
As a Control System spirit master, he would need abilities that can change the flow in the middle of combat, hence his space and mental skills would perfectly align with this category. With his attack and defence spirits and skill, his teammates would also not have to worry about him being knocked out of the battle even if he was targeted.
Additionally, in this category, he would be able to command his teammates which he felt like he would be great at, considering the strategy and experiences he has had from his life in the army on Earth.
