The Yuhao Chronicles - Volume 1 Chapter 39
Deciding on his intended path, he signed his name and wrote down the words ‘Control System Spirit Master’. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed Wang Dong looking at his own sheet. He couldn’t help but smirk when he remembered the scolding that he got for copying Yuhao’s own decision.
Not someone to watch a friend be yelled at, he quietly whispered, “You are clearly an Assault System Spirit Master.”
Wang Dong stubbornly shook his head, “No, I am going to be a Control”
Yuhao turned his head to look right into his roommate’s pinkish-blue eyes, “Even if we are in different classes, we will still be friends. But even then, unless you advise the academy personally, no matter what system you choose, you will still stay with the same roommate every year.”
The stubborn light in Wang Dong’s eye had diminished somewhat but not enough to sway his decision. Yuhao made the final push, “Assault system and control system spirit masters never split up. For one to function, you need the other. They are interdependent. Even if you keep control system on the sheet, we both know that Teacher Zhou will call you up, on it.”
Wang Dong looked into his eyes for a few seconds before sighing and changing his answer.
Zhou Yi said, “You’re all students that I’ve taught. Even though you’ll be split into different classes after this assessment, I hope you brats won’t forget the things that I’ve taught you. Hand your papers back to me after class. Now then, I’ll go over the main points of the freshman assessment.”
Yuhao half-tuned out, half-listened when Zhou Yi explained the rules of the freshman assessment. It was a generic, team-based battle with each team fighting at least ten matches, with a ranking being created based off of the number of matches won. The top sixty-four teams out two hundred or so freshman team will then enter into a knockout tournament, where the top four teams each get a different, but still extremely value prize. The prize for the champion team will be even more precious.
Zhou Yi indifferently said, “Our class currently has fifty-four people; thus, we can make eighteen perfect teams. However, every teacher in charge of a freshman class can propose that a student directly pass the assessment. Song Qinghan.”
“Present.” A somewhat small student quickly stood up. Yuhao had noticed him several times during the last three months as he seems to have the least amount of talent out of the remaining students. He was almost like the original Yuhao, just with less determination and drive.
Zhou Yi indifferently continued, “The person that I’m choosing is you. After observing you for a while, I believe that you’re the most suitable to join the Soul Tool Engineering Institution and continue cultivating. Do you have any problems with that? Right now, you have two choices. You can either join the Soul Engineering Institution, or you can pack your bags.”
Overbearing, she was truly too overbearing. Every single student within the class simultaneously looked over at Song Qinghan.
“I’m willing to go to the Soul Tool Engineering Institution. Thank you, Teacher Zhou.” Song Qinghan didn’t resist Zhou Yi’s overbearingness at all, excitedly jumping up and down. The reason that he’d come to Shrek Academy had been to enter the Soul Engineering Institution in the first place!
Zhou Yi gestured for him to sit back down. “Next, I’ll divide all of you up according to your martial spirits, I’ll help you make your teams. If anyone isn’t satisfied, you can change your teammates after returning to your dorm. However, if no one disagrees when we register tomorrow morning, then you’ll have to strictly follow my arrangements. If you do, I think you’re all pretty clear on what’ll happen.”
She took a moment to look at everyone seriously, causing the students to shiver, “For the first team, we’ll have Xiao Xiao, Ma Qingshuang, and Leng Leng.”
This shocked Yuhao considerably as he was expecting Xiao Xiao to be in his team as she was in canon.
Unaware or uncaring for his shock, Zhou Yi kept speaking out names, “For the second team, Zi Hao, ….”
Eventually, everyone was sorted into their teams aside from Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong.
“Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong,” Zhou Yi said, her voice and gaze slightly less indifferent and cold than the rest.
Both students stood up.
“As you may have noticed, both of you are the only ones who have not been put into teams. With Song Qinghan being sent directly into the Soul Tool Engineering Institution, there is no one else to add to your team. However, after some thought, given the talent and strength that the two of you have shown, I have decided that you two will compete together as a duo, rather than a trio.”
“Yes, Teacher Zhou,” Wang Dong and Yuhao chorused back before sitting down.
As Huo Yuhao sat down he discreetly observed the class. As he did so he couldn’t help but let out an inward sigh of admiration at Zhou Yi’s ability to not only thoroughly understand every single one of her students but to also put them together in groups where they will be able to work together to the best of their abilities.
“Alright, that’s that. If you have any suggestions, you’d best bring them up quickly. I’ll give you a day to think about it. The other classes are also splitting up into teams, but they definitely won’t be as quick as you lot. Let them dawdle around and waste more of their time. When you return that piece of paper to me, you can be dismissed. When you get back, make sure to have a good rest. Nobody’s allowed to go around and start a mess. The freshman assessment will start tomorrow, and my goal is for all eighteen of your teams to pass. If anyone gets eliminated, they won’t just have to pack their bags and leave. I’ll make sure to give you some memories that you’ll never forget.”
When the students of Class 1 saw Zhou Yi’s gaze, which had suddenly become heavy, they couldn’t help but fiercely tremor. There was no question about what sort of memories Zhou Yi would leave behind; they would probably be a nightmare for them.
“Huo Yuhao, Wang Dong, you two stay behind for a bit.”
When the other students handed over the white pieces of paper that had their future direction of cultivation written on it, they left the classroom to walk back to their dorms. The only people left behind in the classroom was Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong.
At this time, the other classes were still enthusiastically explaining the division of teams for the freshman assessment so it could be easily seen that Zhou Yi cares more for her student’s development than them. She not only pushes them harder than other classes and teachers but uses her own time to plan the best situations out for her students.
As the last student left, Zhou Yi turned to face her two favourite students and said, “I am going to trust in the decision you two have made for your futures. I definitely agree with the Assault System path for yourself Wang Dong, and while I am a little dubious on the Control System for you Yuhao, I am sure with your portal skill and mentality, alongside any other reasons you have, you will be able to advance down that path.”
Both students nodded thankfully at her remark.
She continued, “Even though the freshman assessment is only your first examination within Shrek Academy, it’s very important for your future cultivation path. The only way for you to have a chance to appear in the academy’s cultivation honour roll is for you to obtain a good ranking in the freshman assessment. With what you have shown me so far, I’m optimistic about the chances that you two have. I’ll give you a mission. In the freshman assessment, you only have one target: Become the champions! If you don’t return as the champions, you will have to continue following me as you cultivate.”
Huo Yuhao nodded and said, “Teacher Zhou, would we be able to still be taught by you despite winning?”
Zhou Yi was stunned. “You foolish brat, don’t you also think that I’m extremely strict? I know what they call me in private. You don’t have to lie to me to make me happy.”
Huo Yuhao shook his head before saying seriously, “No, Teacher Zhou. I truly do want to continue learning from you. On top of the appreciation I have for you for helping us out during out late-night spars, just from observing the students from other classes, their growth hasn’t been nearly as large as our class’ in these past three months.”
Zhou Yi’s face finally revealed the trace of a smile.
“Alright, you two, I will see what I can do. Remember, you two definitely have to become the champions of the freshman assessment. Also, I can at least tell you two this: Shrek Academy has an enormous amount of wealth. Out of all the assessments the academy holds, the champions of the freshman assessment and the champions of the outer courtyard’s graduation assessment receive the most generous rewards. As for what those rewards actually arewell, you’ll naturally find out when you become the champions of the freshman assessment, not to mention that you will be able to split the three people reward between only the two of you. Head back and make sure that you’re in top condition. I believe in your strength.”
Yuhao and Wang Dong smiled happily, respectfully bowed and waltzed out of the room, back to their dormitory to discuss battle tactics for the upcoming assessment.
