The Yuhao Chronicles - Volume 1 Chapter 44
Yuhao walked out of Ma Xiaotao’s private house, and quickly opened a portal, aiming to head straight back to his dorm room. Knowing that Wang Dong would most likely be there, he opened the exit portal just outside their room. He has already had several instances where he has barged in unannounced and it wouldn’t be good to push his luck with this new method of doing so.
As his body disappeared through the portal, Yuhao was unaware of a pair of eyes who had watched him enter Ma Xiaotao’s house alongside her and leave again forty minutes later. The eyes were filled with hostile and slightly possessive intent as they watched him enter the house where no other individual, except for her master, be it, man or woman, student or teacher, had been allowed to enter before.
The following day, Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong arrived at the examination arena, ready for the next group of battles. Since they had achieved the greatest results from the teams in their previous grouping, they were once again able to stay in the 33rd arena. Since the best team at each arena got to stay where they are, the next few battles would mean there is a very low chance of facing against strong opponents.
Teacher Wang Yan glanced at the duo team of Wang Dong and Huo Yuhao with a deep look in his eyes, then proceeded to make an announcement, “Alright, everyone’s present. Since Class 1’s ‘Team Huo Yuhao’ was able to obtain the best results in this arena during their previous four matches, they’re the seeded team of this arena. As for the order of the matches, the first match of the 33rd arena’s fifth round will be Class 1’s Team Huo Yuhao versus Class 7’s Team Huang Chutian.”
As Yuhao predicted, he was up against the identical female twins who each had the Spirit Hair body spirit. The two parties took their respective spaces on the arena, with Huang Chutian and surprisingly Wang Dong, both taking the frontal position on their side.
Teacher Wang Yan let out a low shout, “Let the assessment begin!”
All of the spirit masters in the arena instantly released their martial spirits as Huo Yuhao, Wang Dong and Huang Chutian all rushed into the centre. As they neared one another, Wang Dong used his butterfly wings to fly up and over Chutian’s head, surprising him as he was expecting a direct blow. He quickly changed his target to Yuhao who was directly behind, however, was a little slow and received a punch to his chest.
The force of the blow sent him skidding back several metres before he got control of himself. While Yuhao’s base physique is massively better than his opponent, his opponent’s spirit being the Hercules Ape greatly diminishes the gap in strength between them. His opponent once again charged at him, launching a powerful right hook towards his body. Rather than dodge it, Yuhao released his first ring, causing the Black Turtle shell to appear in front of the punch and block it completely.
He used the time to perform a sweeping kick, swiping Chutian’s legs out from under him. As he was falling to the ground, Yuhao quickly did a quick spin, kicking out with his heel right into his opponents’ chest and sending him spinning backwards along the floor.
While these two were fighting, Wang Dong had just entered into battle against the Spirit Hair duo. The two sisters were currently using their first spirit rings to form a large net to try and capture their opponent in a large net. However, with Wang Dong’s spirit having both sharp and destructive force, she continuously was able to cut her way through, flying closer and closer to them.
As she flew closer and closer, they realised that their second spirit rings would be futile since it had long-range effects. With determined glints in their eyes, they both suddenly unleashed a final hair net to buy themselves even a single second of time before hugging each other. As soon as they did so, their spirit power became very dense and their hair quickly changed to a shade of sparkling blue.
Knowing what was happening, Yuhao left his opponent who was still getting up off of the floor and formed a portal directly behind where the sisters were previously located. With the twins focusing their spirit fusion on preventing Wang Dong from getting near, they had no time to notice Yuhao’s actions.
Appearing behind the two completely undefended girls, he quickly sent out two short, weak punches. With them having used up all of their spirit power in activating the Inescapable Net Spirit Fusion, they only needed a light tap to disrupt their concentration and knock themselves unconscious from exhaustion. This doesn’t include the fact that even in this world and with Yuhao having his mentality considerably changed from what it was back on Earth, punching two undefended young girls in the back was still a ruthless blow. If two weak punches can get the job done, he will do no more than that.
As his punches made contact, the girls stumbled apart and only managed to catch a glimpse of Yuhao’s face before they collapsed from exhaustion. With the high level of teamwork that Wang Dong and Yuhao have, Wang Dong was able to sense that Yuhao himself had switched targets to help him out and so in turn, had focused his own attention on Chutian.
He released his first spirit skill, guillotine wings, and slashed at the knuckles and torso of his new opponent who was too slow to make contact with his own body. He was currently using a bastardised version of the Ghostly Perplexing Track in mid-air and while it didn’t allow him the insane mobility it provided on the floor, it was more than enough to run rings around his opponent.
With the cuts slowly building up on his body, released his two skills in quick succession, with his fists growing to twice times the size and simultaneously shooting out a condensed yellow ball of light. Wang Dong surprised at the sudden increase in fist-size was clipped by the punch, sending him soaring back several metres. He was only able to just dodge the yellow ball of light, which to his shock once again, turned back around and attacked him again.
‘It must have a targeting function’ He thought.
As he made another dodge and began charging back to Chutian, he caught in the corner of his eye Yuhao using his third spirit ring again. As he flew closer, he smirked as he was able to see a purple portal secretly appearing behind Chutian’s body.
Not a second later, a yellow ball of light flew out of the portal and collided with Chutian, disrupting his focus and making him defenceless to Wang Dong’s own attack which saw him hurtling up in the air and out of the arena. He collided with the floor with a loud ‘thud’ as the thin cuts all over his body kept bleeding, not enough to put a spirit master in any danger, but enough that if he doesn’t get them healed within the hour, could affect his performance in his subsequent battles.
Wang Dong floated down to stand next to Yuhao as they shared a high five in celebration. While they outclassed their opponents in nearly every way, it was still quite enjoyable for them, even more so when you compare it to all of their opponents simply forfeiting their matches.
As they walked off the arena, all of the teams had their eyes on them, which allowed their future opponents to rapidly notice that not only did they not have a scratch on their clothes, but they also did not even look tired. Many of the students were already unsure of how to approach the Huang Chutian and twins’ team, however, they had no idea how they were supposed to face these two monsters.
Seeing the distress in all of these gazes, Yuhao could only sigh as he realised that, just like the first round of battles, they will have many forfeits to come.
Only five hours later, all of the matches for the day had finished. Just as he predicted, no one was willing to confront them in battle. Some of the students had sent out a couple of long-range skills in the hope of a miracle, however, as soon as the duo neared them, they would instantly forfeit. So even though they ended up being victorious in all ten matches of the round-robin tournament, they were quite unsatisfied.

Author’s Note (Since many of you seem to miss it, I will put it here just this once):
Hope everyone liked the chapter. Quite enjoying thinking about different ways Yuhao can use his skills in a fight. Despite this, I am trying to progress this arc on as I don’t like reading about fighting and tournament arcs that just go on and on, and I am sure you don’t either.
I will reiterate as many of you haven’t noticed the tags on the story and author notes in previous chapters. Ma Xiaotao will not be one of Yuhao’s two wives (Yes he will have two). I do have valid reasons for this, despite what is currently going on between them. I just wanted to everyone who didn’t know to know so you aren’t inevitably disappointed with the future of the novel after putting time into following the story.
Thanks for reading and have a splendid day!
