The Yuhao Chronicles - Volume 1 Chapter 52
The instant after the announcement was made, both parties moved identically; they both charged towards each other. At that moment, they were separated by too great a distance, and even though Yuhao could use his portal to get there, it would be more worthwhile to run. This would keep their opponent on edge, always guessing when he will begin to use his portal skill, not to mention that while they most likely have heard of the skill, it is a lot different from actually seeing and personally experiencing it. Wang Dong followed closely behind him by using his Bright Butterfly Goddess wings, ensuring he remained mainly behind Yuhao’s back.
On the other hand, Dai Huabin’s trio kept their previous formation as they wildly dashed forward. Dai Huabin was in the very front, and he shouted loudly as he ran, “White Tiger, Possession!”
An intense, white light suddenly exploded from his body, causing his arms to simultaneously expand as he charged forward. His chest stuck out, bone-cracking sounds rang out from every corner of his body and his hair turned mostly white. His muscles suddenly swelled up, causing his clothes to be stretched taut. However, the most prominent change was his hands. All ten of his fingers had lengthened with each finger growing extremely sharp claws from his fingertips
Three halos of light began to slowly rise above his feet; two of them were yellow, while the other was purple. As his spirit rings revolved, his surging spirit power formed a wave of pressure that exploded outwards.
Both of Dai Huabin’s teammates, Zhu Lu and Cui Yajie respectively also went through transformations due to their spirits. Zhu Lu’s ears pricked up alongside her figure became even more slender and powerful. Sharp claws appeared on all ten of her fingers, and even though they weren’t as sturdy as Dai Huabin’s, they gave off an illusory sense of swiftness.
Cui Yajie, on the other hand, seemed to age three or four years after releasing her martial spirit. Her pink hair grew even longer, along with her ears growing longer, fluffy and pointed. Her eyes also grew purer, like a perfect, pink crystal and gained an appealing allure. Most importantly, two long tails had appeared from her back. Each tail was around one meter long, and their thick, pink fur was illuminated by the rays of the afternoon sun.
Her pink eyes immediately found Huo Yuhao’s, and she smiled charmingly at him. Her first soul ring quietly lit up, but the light coming from it wasn’t very obvious leading Yuhao to almost miss it in his peripheral vision. He felt her spiritual power try and ensnare his mind however her own energy was immediately drowned out by Yuhao’s own extensive reserves.
Cui Yajie’s body shook, and her charming face turned slightly pale. Her martial spirit was called, the Ninetails Fox, and it was a relatively high-levelled existence among Beast Souls. It had a few unique characteristics including its ability to grow a single tail for every extra spirit ring they obtained. Her first spirit skill was called ‘Charm’, and she’d used it on Huo Yuhao, albeit to no effect.
The Ninetails Fox was part spiritual-type and part assault-type, and she’d chosen the same path for her cultivation. However, Huo Yuhao’s Spirit Eyes, which he always activated whenever he used any of his martial spirits, was a martial spirit that focused entirely on the spiritual-type. This makes it extremely hard for Cui Yajie’s Charm, which was a spiritual-type skill, to affect him.
This doesn’t take into account the four conscious spirit beasts in his spiritual sea, with three of them being primarily spiritual-type spirit beasts themselves. With all of these factors combined, unless Yuhao’s opponent has an insane amount of spiritual power, he will remain completely unaffected from these kinds of attacks.
As the distance between them shrank, Dai Huabin’s team made the first move. Zhu Lu’s body flashed, causing her speed to suddenly increase. This created a series of consecutive afterimages that appeared behind her as she pounced towards Huo Yuhao.
Likewise, Dai Huabin started to go on the offensive. He roared, and in a flash, an intense white light gathered around his head as his second spirit ring lit up. Right after that, a ball of white light shot towards Wang Dong. Clearly, he didn’t want them the opportunity to double team Zhu Lu.
Simultaneously, Cui Yajie who was originally using her charm skill on Huo Yuhao, shifted her gaze to try and connect with Wang Dong’s, in the hope it will have an effect.
The moment Cui Yajie changed the target of her skill, Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong made their moves. Wang Dong swept to the right, in the path of Zhu Lu while still being strategically between the incoming ball of light and Yuhao. Yuhao in this time, activated his second spirit ring, using both skills simultaneously to increase his physical and elemental resistances by 75% each. With the light ball locked onto Wang Dong, he couldn’t dodge it, so he simply took the hit. With his physique and increased resistances, the light barely affected him, almost as if someone just weakly nudged his chest.
With the light out of the way, he kept running towards Dai Huabin and Cui Yajie, leaving Wang Dong behind him to battle Zhu Lu. With Yuhao coming close, Dai Huabin released his third spirit ring, sending out an intense light wave forward towards him. This light held some destructive properties and Yuhao could sense that while it wasn’t a major danger, it could still injure him. Rather than risk it, he used his first spirit ring, causing the turtle shell to appear in front of him.
Contrary to any use of the skill in the past, this time the shield was facing parallel to the ground. In the next moment, surprising the spectators and his opponents, Yuhao stood on the shield itself and used it as leverage to leap up and over the incoming light wave, with the shield dispersing behind him. This action shocked the referee as technically Yuhao had just risen above the ten-metre boundary, however, with him not having used a flying-type spirit to do so, there was no issue with his action.
Dai Huabin was a daring and prideful person, so seeing Yuhao easily dodge his attack angered him. He quickly shot forwards, towards where his opponent was going to land as his first spirit ring lit up under him, causing a white light to surround his entire body. Clearly this most recent skill was some kind of attribute boosting skill, most probably a defensive skill, just like Yuhao’s own currently activated defensive skill.
Yuhao as he landed, commando rolled to manipulate his downwards momentum to turn it into forward momentum. Using this, he sprung off the floor directly towards the closing in Dai Huabin. When they clashed, all of Yuhao’s force was directed onto Dai Huabin, sending him sprawling back several metres. As he pushed back, he did a semi-backflip to land back on his feet and stabilise himself.
While this clash happened, behind them, Zhu Lu was fighting with Wang Dong. Both of them were agility-type assault spirit masters, their spirit ranks were almost the same, they both came from large clans which trained their fighting ability and they had very similar abilities. Zhu Lu’s first spirit ring allows her to double her speed, something which resembles Wang Dong’s innate ability to convert his spirit power into speed. Similarly, Wang Dong’s first spirit ring allows him to turn his butterfly wings into guillotine bladed wings, resembling Zhu Lu’s innate sharp claws she gains due to her martial spirit transformation. Furthermore, they both have excellent second spirit ring skills, with Wang Dong being able to release a bombardment of powerful light blasts in various directions, while Zhu Lu can attack a hundred times using her body’s rapid rotation and flexibility.
Because of these similarities, they were both unable to get the advantage over the other. This doesn’t mean that they were both unharmed, as they each had many injuries on their bodies, with Wang Dong having many smaller, lighter injuries, while Zhu Lu only had a few cuts which were larger.
With Wang Dong unable to get the advantage using only his martial spirit and skills, he began using his Tang Sect techniques in the fight. Using these techniques mainly the Purple Demon Eye and Ghost Perplexing Track, his time and detail perception increased substantially alongside his speed and dodging ability. Due to this, Wang Dong was now able to cause more injuries to his opponent than he received.
