Their Reasons - Chapter 7 The Vampire
@@My sister raised me. She gave me love and care. My parents were close advisers to the Empress, so they weren’t home much.
My sister is much older than me. She would sometimes get lost in thought, and she would look at me with sad eyes. I remember wondering why.
I grew up under her support. The day of my adult ceremony came. She told me, late at day, to remember that it wasn’t my fault. I didn’t realize what she meant until after.
My favorite servant was to go through my ceremony with me. He was like a brother and best friend wrapped into one. I was told we were going to be bound.
We stepped up to the platform together. He smelled at me and ruffled my hair. He said the same thing as sister, that this isn’t my fault.
Then a cage came down. We were trapped. I panicked, trying to get out.
Then the moonlight hit me.
I was hungry.
It was the only thing I could think about.
Food!
Then I smelled something delicious. It welcomed me with open arms.
By the time I came to my senses, he was gone.
I remember my sister crying, then she gathered me up, and we cried together.
Now we are separated from the others. We didn’t want our children to go through that. Now we do what we must to survive, as we support each other.
For we remain in the shadows.
