There is Something Wrong with This Game - 4C018 – Recruitment Continuation
Rena-cchi and Emilia needed a few moments to process what Astrid had said.
They naturally knew that their leader was a rich man, so it was no surprise when they were told that their leader was the CEO of a large company. So this means, behind the Genesis Guild is the Tenz Corporation, they are interrelated and support each other.
It was no wonder Genesis Guild’s finances are so strong.
Emilia was the first to break the silence, followed by Rena-cchi.
“Then, Astrid-san, can you explain what work we have to do? And how much is the salary?” (Emilia)
“But, we’re still in high school. Isn’t it too rushed to work at our age? What about our studies?” (Rena-cchi)
Regarding their question, Astrid only smiled.
She began to explain the contents of her recruitment to the two of them in a graceful manner. The two of them also listened carefully to what she had to say.
“There is no need to worry. For now, you two are only working as interns, and it won’t interfere on your college life very much. All the troublesome calculations can be left to the AI, and the work you two do isn’t really that much.” (Astrid)
“I see.” (Rena-cchi)
“And about the salary, I guarantee you’ll be satisfied. Depending on circumstances, one to ten million yen per month won’t be a problem.” (Astrid)
Hearing the salary Astrid was talking about, Emilia and Rena-cchi were confused.
Work little but get so much salary, was there such a good thing in the world?
“I see you both are confused why you are getting so much salary for such easy work, but this is normal. In fact, when you go out into society, you will find that whatever knowledge you learn is of little use.” (Astrid)
Seeing the confused look on both of them, Astrid continued her explanation.
She then projected a holo-screen presentation that she had prepared beforehand. It was a simple yet understandable illustration for the topic she was explaining.
“You know that nowadays, most of the menial work can be done by computers and robots?” (Astrid)
“Yes…” (Emilia)
“For example, you studied Mathematics, Economics and other subjects for several years in school and college. But when you work in a company, any physical work can be left to robots. Meanwhile, any work that requires thinking, such as calculations, language translation, even art can be done by AI.” (Astrid)
Emilia grew even more shocked and her expression became serious.
Technology has advanced and the role of humans has been increasingly replaced. This topic has been widely discussed in their social studies. But when this fact was said again, she couldn’t help but fall into deep thought.
So what’s the point for them to go to school or college? Are human still needed?
It was Rena-cchi who broke her thought.
“A-cchi-senpai, if we continue in this direction, we will be discussing the necessity of human existence.” (Rena-cchi)
“Ah, my apologies. I don’t mean to discuss philosophy here.” (Astrid)
Astrid coughed in embarrassment.
She immediately turned off the holo-screen presentation and went straight to the conclusion.
“Of course what I said before doesn’t apply to all companies. But our Tenz Company is special. We have purchased many professional AI assistant licenses with a duration of 10 years to help with all our work.” (Astrid)
“So I guess our job is to manage those AIs, right?” (Rena-cchi)
Emilia looks at her best friend in surprise, but then nods in understanding. On normal days, Rena-cchi would always act like a carefree idiot, but when there was a serious discussion, this girl was always perceptive.
On the other hand, Astrid was also surprised with Rena-cchi’s sharpness, but she nodded.
“Correct. You are quick to understand, Rena-san.” (Astrid)
“Hehe, thanks for the compliment.” (Rena-cchi)
“In the end, AI only acts as assistant, there are many things that can’t be calculated and that’s where human judgment is needed. Thus, we need people who can help us direct those AIs and make decisions they can’t calculate.” (Astrid)
“I see, I understand now.” (Rena-cchi)
Rena-cchi understood what Astrid meant.
Astrid looked at Emilia.
“Emi-san, I really appreciate your management skills. I thought this job wouldn’t be too much of a burden for you. It wouldn’t be much different from leading your subordinates in the Guild.” (Astrid)
“Well, I suppose so.” (Emilia)
Then, Astrid turned her gaze to Rena-cchi.
“As for Rena-san, your role is different from Emi-san. In my opinion, you are more suitable for doing medical research. We have an affiliated company that deals with research on medical matters. By all means, I invite you to join.” (Astrid)
“Eh, really? I’d like to hear the details more!” (Rena-cchi)
For Rena-cchi who was inspired to become a doctor, this invitation was like an opportunity sent from heaven.
She recalled about a certain loli friend(?) of hers who suffer(?) from leukemia.
If she were to become a doctor normally, who knows how much time, effort, and money she would have to spend to become one. And then, there was no guarantee that the loli will last long enough to wait for her.
“Well, during the internship period, you won’t have much work assigned. Think of it as getting used to the work environment first. After you finish college, the two of you will actually join our company.” (Astrid)
Astrid drank the coffee she had left earlier until it was all gone.
When the coffee was finished, Astrid put down her cup and asked them once more.
“Now, I’d like to hear your answers. Will you two join our company?” (Astrid)
Emilia and Rena-cchi looked at each other first and nodded.
Astrid had expressed her sincerity and given them so much special treatment. Moreover, as a fellow guild member, she could be trusted. There was no reason for them to refuse to join.

The recruitment went smoothly without problem.
All that remains was just small talk and a few details about the Tenz Company and the working environment within it. There is a comfortable work space, lots of recreational facilities, good food in the cafeteria, etc.
It was a pity the company was located in Tokyo.
“For the convenience, I suggest the two of you apply to Tokyo University after high school. Ouma, I mean… Our leader, Leon has already reserved two seats for both of you there.” (Astrid)
“I suppose you have a point.” (Emilia)
Emilia nodded.
Since the company they were going to enter was located in Tokyo, there was no need for them to stay in Kyoto. It was the time for them to leave their nest and go out into the wider world.
“Hmm, I also want to go…” (Rena-cchi)
Rena-cchi also couldn’t help but tempted.
Even though she had taken a special curriculum to enter Kyoto University, Tokyo University had better facilities and had the latest cutting-edge technology.
“But, what about Kazu-cchi?” (Rena-cchi)
The reason why she hesitated was because of Kazu.
The three of them have had an inseparable relationship since childhood. But, if the two of them went to Tokyo U, he would be left alone in Kyoto. And with his academic record, the chances of him entering Tokyo U are next to impossible.
She hoped that Astrid also recruit him as well, but sadly, her hopes fall short.
“Kazu-kun? Unfortunately, he doesn’t seem like a good fit for our company, and I have no plans to recruit him.” (Astrid)
“Well, I expected it. Anyways, this isn’t farewell, we get to see him every day at the base.” (Emilia)
“Um, okay. You’re right.” (Rena-cchi)
Rena-cchi sighed with determination.
In any case, she must make a choice, between staying in Kyoto for friendship, or moving to Tokyo for opportunity of success. She had no choice but to choose the latter.
She believed that Kazu would be fine in Kyoto, but her loli friend had no time to wait.
But suddenly, she had a thought, it would be nice if the loli also went together with them.
“A-cchi-senpai, in that case, what about Hecate-cchi? She also goes to the same school as us.” (Rena-cchi)
“Rena, do you intend to ask Astrid-san to bring Hecate-chan with us to Tokyo?” (Emilia)
Emilia asked with a concern.
She herself didn’t mind taking Hecate with them to Tokyo. But she knew about Hecate’s illness(?), and worried whether bringing Hecate to Tokyo would affect her health.
“Hecate? She’s also from the same place as you?” (Astrid)
“Yes, that’s right. It would be more reassuring for me to bring her with us.” (Rena-cchi)
“Astrid-san, the situation is actually like this.” (Emilia)
And so, Emilia told Astrid what she and Rena-cchi knew about Hecate.
After hearing the information Emilia had said, Astrid’s expression became serious. At first, Astrid had thought that Rena-cchi would ask her to also recruit Hecate into the company. If that was the case, she had no objection.
Hecate was also a gifted seed, which was evident from her behavior in the Guild. Besides, she can heal others with her cuteness. It wouldn’t be a loss if she could be recruited into the company.
But little did Astrid know that the cute and cuddly Hecate had such an ailment.
“I see, so Hecate is… She never said anything about it…” (Astrid)
“Uh, well…” (Rena-cchi)
Rena-cchi’s expression became awkward.
She had originally planned to ask Astrid to bring Hecate, or if possible also recruited her into the company without disclosing about her sickness. But she never thought about the impact it would have on Hecate’s health.
Rena-cchi had forgotten because she had only met Hecate virtually, and never her real body. Within the virtual world, Hecate might looked healthy, but in reality, she might not(?) be able to even stand.
Thinking about it, Rena-cchi felt ashamed to call herself her best friend.
“I understand, I’ll talk with Hecate first.” (Astrid)
But this result was also fine.
At least, with Astrid knew, getting her to cooperate would be easier.
