This Crayfish Is Not Edible - Chapter 100
A lot more corpses started twitching under them. They all rose up with their red eyes, gazing at them with killing intent.
“They… kill… leave… no…w,” the black armoured ghoul shouted at the youngster.
Xia Che did not have the time to react. A corpse dragged a long sword and slashed at him. He summoned the water and made a shield with it.
The sword clanked on the shield, stopping the attack midway. But the corpses did not give up. it kept slashing at his shield continuously.
Soon many other undead corpses joined this attack.
The black armoured ghoul tried to stop this, but it was useless. With his bony arm, he swung at the corpses that are close range to that youngster.
“Ruu..n,” the ghoul shouted.
Xia gazed at him and nodded. He did try to escape, but the corpses surrounded all around him.
One of the corpses broke through his shield and swung at him. Xia summoned a short sword from his ring and blocked the blow with it. But the long sword managed to slice through his shoulders.
‘Shit, these things fight like seasoned warriors. I have to run fast,’ he thought as he dodged another blow. A stinging pain spread from his bleeding shoulders.
Another corpse broke though the shield and held his shoulder, making him immobile. Xia struggled, but the grip was firm.
The corpse in front of him raised his long sword and slashed down.
Xia watched all this happen in slow motion. ‘Am I going to die here? But Long needs me, i can’t die here,’ he thought, squeezing his eyes close.
But the expected attack did not land on him. Xia slowly peaked open his eyes. A huge fire dragon shield sizzled around, keeping him safe from the corpses. Even The water inside the shield evaporated faster.
“What… what is this?” he whispered as he peered at the dragon shield around him. The majestic fire dragon roared and charged at the corpses in front. Its fire burned everything in its path.
Xia gazed at all this in a daze. He had seen the dragon soul before in that passageway it was mighty. But this…. this fire dragon was much more formidable. Even its spiritual breath was so… strong. It made him want to kneel.
The mighty fire dragon burned all of the thousand corpses and dashed back towards him. Its fiery face looked at him with a fond expression.
“Who… who are you?” Xia whispered.
The dragon shook its head and dashed towards him. As it reached closer, it shrunk and went into his clothes.
“Eh, where are you going?” Xia shouted and pulled his collar apart. But there was nothing there. Only the little snake’s golden scale was hanging around his neck.
It was abnormally hot on to touch.
“Was this… the shield? But how?” he whispered. He did not know how to react to this. This small scale was little snake’s. Xia had broken it off by mistake. He had kept it with him as a safe keep. ‘I never knew that this small had so much power,’ he thought.
What was even more suspicious was that this small scale fell off of his little snake. His little snake, ah… How can a snake scale become a mighty dragon shield?
“Maybe it’s my exponential Luck,” Xia whispered. But even this did not convince him. A small twinge of doubt sprouted in his heart.
“Long said he was four thousand years old.. Was he saying the truth? Even if he so, it doesn’t explain how this scale became a dragon spirit ah,” he shouted and scratched his head.
“You… didn’t… ruu..n,” that black armoured ghoul said from behind him.
“Ah, you survived, that’s good, i thought that dragon burned through all,” Xia let out bubbles o relief.
“My….comrades…. dead,” the ghoul said, gazing at the scotched corpses.
The ghoul general sighed. It was his comrades, his brothers in arm that were brutally killed that day. Watching them burn again made his soul ache abnormally.
Xia patted his bony shoulders. “Don’t worry, it’s not peaceful to live as a vengeful corpse. This way they can be reborn again and lead a happy life,”
The ghoul nodded. The young man was right. Living like this for ten thousand years was a torture to his soul. He watched as days passed by. He lost parts of his memory, his spiritual energy… and at last his humanity started fading.
“Kill…me too,” He said and keeled before him. He also wanted to end this cruel existence.
Xia sighed. “But you are different. You never had malicious intentions.” The ghoul silently keeled in front of him. “Aren’t you still young? Don’t you have goals? Dreams to achieve? Family to meet?” he whispered.
“I ….. Too old, No…..family. All here… died…. because of me….. please….. kill me,” he stuttered and showed his bony neck.
Xia pulled him up to his feet and glared at him. “When it’s your time, you life will end on its own. We mortals do not have the choice when we die or when we are born.” He paused.
“But we do have the choice how we live our life. These people died because of you, right? Then take responsibility. Instead of crying and whining, repent for it with good deeds.”
The ghoul’s rotten eyes started tearing up. A distinct memory flashed in front of his mind. He had been stabbed the moment they all entered this cave, but his soldiers shielded him. They gave up their lives to save his. “General, go….. You should live…. get out,” his commander-in-chief’ shout echoed in his mind.
“I…. repent….” The ghoul sobbed.
Xia smirked. “It’s good, you understand. It’s sad to lose our loved ones. But death and life is part of samsara circle. We can’t do anything to stop it or change it,” he said.
Pair of muscular hand suddenly enveloped his body. On his back, Xia felt the warmth he was very familiar with.
“Long!” he shouted and turned around.
The little snake was holding his breath with difficulty. His cheeks were bulged as he pointed to something vigorously.
“You stupid,” Xia shouted and kissed him on his straining lips. He opened his mouth with his and breathed in air into his mouth.
Small bubbles floated around them, creating a small halo.
The ghoul gazed at them with his mouth wide open. He was shell-shocked. Not by the pair’s kiss, but by the new youngster. He looked just like his king.
‘Maybe it is our king. i should greet him,’ he thought with panic.
“Your highness, this humble general is punishable for this failure. Please punish me!” he shouted.
Long gazed at him in hindsight. All he could hear were gurgles and grumbles of the decaying corpse in front of him.
‘What is that thing saying? Is he the one trying to hurt my darling?’ he hugged his lover closer. He glared at with his eyes narrowed.
Minutes ago, he had taken the path down and safely jumped onto eth nearby rocks. He did not even enter the lake, because he could feel a very weird energy from inside. There was a huge gate nearby. He was too busy trying to open the door, so he did not notice anything else.
Suddenly, he felt a surge of his own spiritual energy from inside this lake. At first, he did not believe this.
No two people spiritual energy is same. Its wavelength always differs.
“It’s not possible who sis having my spiritual energy? He whispered. Then only he realized something, “Xia…. xia has my reverse scale,” he shouted.
Usually a dragon treasures its dragon scale because it is their weakness and also the place where they store most of their spiritual energy.
The familiar energy meant that his stupid lover had followed him along. ‘Why did he follow me here? I hope he is not hurt’ he thought and jumped into the lake.
The entire lake’s bottom was covered in burnt corpses and in the middle of it his lover stood. There was also a malicious looking ghoul standing very close to him.
‘I will save you, xia,’ he thought and hugged him close.
Xia laughed at him and hugged him tight. He pulled his palm and wrote on it. “That ghoul is not dangerous,”
Long sighed and kissed him even more. His lover was safe.
“Let’s go up,” xia wrote on his hand.
Long nodded. And his lover dragged him up. He was much faster in water than him. so Long quietly hugged him.
After minutes of swimming, they both surfaced. The cave was quite dark and gloomy.
Xia che sniffed the air again. “Oh I smell the herb. It’s nearby,” He exclaimed and dragged him to shore.
Xia rushed over to the door and sniffed again. “It’s in here! The herb is in here” he shouted.
His loud voice echoed in the small cave. “Ops, was I too loud?” he whispered.
“No, it’s okay,” Long said.
At that moment, the cave’s ceiling lit up like shining stars.
“Wow, what is that? Its shining like starts,” Xia whispered.
But Long paled gazing at this.
“Xia, we need to run. These are corpse butterflies!”
